    I've seen the technique before but not explained as thoroughly as you do here. Thanks!

    Nice build. I agree it looks more interesting than the balloon approach. Of course, the challenge is finding a glass cylinder that matches the plunger to shape the epoxy.

    • @raykent3211
      @raykent3211 Před 5 lety +3

      It's not very critical. If your plunger is a couple of millimetres smaller in diameter you'll get a slightly irregular top surface. Just file it flat.

    that is a good way to prepare a temporary piston, you could also insert a U shaped hook into the epoxy mold mix before curing instead of drilling it afterwords (:

    The replacement idea is a good one. I was in doubt about the piston height. would it be 10mm or could it be more !?

    Nice video again! :) With your explain maybe much better as mine! :) One thing only. The flat, hard surface is not recommended for the process. I used rubber sheet, because much easier to remove the putty piston from the glass cylinder because ther rubber could stop the putty to make a shoulder on the glass cylinder's edge. Kind regards from Hungary! BLADE

    Very creative, alternative and resourceful idea frend since i do not have a lathe machine in here. The most common epoxy here is devcon and mighty bond they are both two kinds of paste one is a epoxy and hardener will this kind of epoxy also work? And will it also work on a steam engine? Since i read and watch about heat engines i became interest and amaze of this machinery because we can create energy power off the grid using fire heat. Tnx my frend for the videos and ideas you share.

    Parabéns pelo vídeo. Também ficaria ótimo se mostrasse pó de grafite à massa epoxi. Seria interessante mostrar com o cortar o vidro.

    I want to build a real working Stirling engine, and about 12' diameter parabolic dish to direct sun to run it off of, mount the hot end inside a box with a pyrex glass face, a ceramic lined steel box, and pull a partial vacuum on it for insulation, with a copper block on the end to conduct heat, into the cylinder, and build a water jackets around the cold end, to circulate cool well water through, to keep cool as possible, maybe try hydrogen or helium also, I'm thinking a engine that would fit inside a 1meter x 1 meter box, so a fairly large small engine, possibly 4cylinders, with 90° from each other, to keep power smooth, possibly add a 20mm copper tube around the hot ends to allow hot water or steam to be pumped through, maybe hot oil, to keep it working over time, with a couple 20lb flywheels, to keep it rolling, spinning a generator, being it's in a box, I guess a small starter may be needed!

    I've always questioned "Why do they keep making these engines from glass"? That is NOT practical. Why not make them from metal? Stop making toy engines, and make something we can actually use.

    • @nigelwilliams7920
      @nigelwilliams7920 Před 3 měsíci

      Why do they make these from glass? Because if you are serious, you may as well get very serios!
      Look at the video: The Stirling Cycle part 1 (Stirling Cryogenics)
      That vid takes you straight into a well optimised engine. It also takes the home builder straight into despair, as it is impossible for me using koke cans and epoxy n glass to get anything like that design or efficiency, so I feel that I'm just wasting my time, while desperately wanting to make a decent engine! Ah the burden of the home inventor! :)

      I remember a concept car with a ceramic engine 80s. Don't remember who built it, NIssan or Mitsubishi, but the concept never took off commercially. They claimed the engine could handle much higher temperatures than an iron or aluminum block. Those days!
