Aiming in this game is extremely janky, depending on upright vs grounded/crawlers. Part of it appears to be the bite animation providing invincibility frames/making the zed unable to be targeted during the bite animation, per this vid czcams.com/video/r6oqRWNaDYs/video.htmlsi=sG-dSf0jFnt9G3z_ As a side note, go to your settings and turn on target outlines for all targets. This will proved a color-coded outline to tell (semi) reliably if an attack will land or not. It does not appear the bite animation issue was your problem, it appears you could benefit from the targeting outlines. Hope this helps!🙂
Yeah, definitely turn on outlines and adjust the opacity of the aim cursor as well. Most games I would run a 50/50 reticle, like shooters, or close to it, but I might have it set as high as 70 for this game.
Been playing project zomboid and thinking the devs probably were like "great game but we just cannot get the combat system to be clean enough" so they changed the opening screen to say "this is how you died" to make it seem like a feature.
I really like spears, but you have to really be mindful of that if a few zeds are online and together. Best to also use a fence or window with it, really.
you were either too close or aiming at the side when it happens those "misfires" happen way more often when attacking prone zombies with spears. but they can happen.
Look at the angle difference between your aim marker and the zombie when you made that last attack. Adjusted your position with a sidestep but didn't move the aim. Hate it when I get caught with lazy aiming.
If my game is hindered in anyway to a bug or glitch I cheat to rewind, bump up skills, spawn items in ect.. I WILL NOT sit there and say "Oh well" when you loose hours of your life to some bullshit bug.
The real funny stuff is how they just bite through bullet proof armor, i mean, you are better off getting shot than getting bit. Mf have some metal teeth or sum shit

LOL, anyone with 400-600 hours is basically unkillable in the base game, but sure.

Meh, the range and training maintenance on just a regular ass crowbar is amazing tbh and beats everything else for melee, especially early game.

I had a zombie bite me through a stairwell railing, while I couldn't get a hit at close range. Definitely a feature.

It's actually quite common on spears, as they also have instakill animation, you might miss the hit but get animation and freeze in place

They're better for sneak attacking, honestly. I would throw a short blunt on my belt in another slot if ever in doubt or just to have a backup.

Yup, there is no reason to be inside the maximum range to land whatever attack you wish to. The distances inside the grid squares matter.

You simply missed, it is easy miss at such short range so i like using longer range weapons like baseball bats and axes
