I'd say that as far as the guitar actually goes, his take on it has more musical sounds, I can think about his stuff as a listener and a guitar player in the way I prefer

Most gifted all around lead rock player on Earth IMO. When taking everything into account...feel, speed, accuracy, ability to compose memorable melodies, phrasing.
He's honestly just the best in this kind of melodic shredding rock category, whatever you'd like to call it. Of course he isn't who he is without Petrucci, Satch, Timmons, etc...but man he just has it all. It's unreal.
Great comment and I think you do well to explain Marco's origin in other players. Agreed, he's right up there.
I agree entirely - I know you can hear the influences you mentioned above (all of which I like - they're influential for good reasons!), but he also adds his own style, and like you also said his melodies are phenomenal, phrasing peerless, and actual chops awesome. I find watching him difficult as his technique does not appear graceful - but let there be no doubt as to it's effectiveness! Just amazing - one of the best all round guitarists on the planet.

It's amazing how the song reaches some kind of climax at around 03:15 solely by chords. That's some great stuff on composing and phrasing, which is what music is all about.
