As soon as G.U.N. mentioned “files from 50 years ago” I immediately shouted “IT’S SHADOW!!”
As soon as gun was introduced I was like they are doing Sa2 story lets go. Theatre erupted when shadow was shown.
I screamed when she said “over 50 years”. I was so hyped.

I just got back from watching Sonic 2, and I cracked up loudly when Eggman says "I can show you the way". Nobody else laughed and I got some questionable stares, but it was awesome! 🤘🏼

I think the best thing in the movie is the amount of references in the Sonic franchise. The directors are true Sonic fans
I saw Sonic 2 today and enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed Idris Elba's performance as the voice of Knuckles. He did such a fantastic job of making Knuckles seem so intimidating.
One of my favourite references in this movie is when the gang suggests going out to get ice cream and Knuckles asks if it comes with grapes, referencing the fact that grapes are Knuckles’ favourite fruit.
I just think it's neat that they decided to reference something so small. The people who made this movie are clearly either fans of Sonic, or people who spent a long time researching the franchise to make something that fans would enjoy.
A bit of both. The director used to work for Shadow the Hedgehog game cinematic.
I thought it was a very vague reference to the duck song
Also, Ben and Jerry's almost made blue/purple grape ice cream because one of them wanted to impress a girl. Though it failed when it turned out the grape ice cream killed the girls dog.

The sequel definitely did better than the first movie definitely can’t wait to see how Sonic 3 and even the upcoming Knuckles Spin off project raises up the stakes for video game movies to succeed at it’s best especially with that the Sonic brand and Sega have in mind for what’s yet to come.
I wish they mentioned the Sonic 06 reference.
It’s when Super Sonic knocks over the demolished Death Egg Robot by tapping his foot, just like what he did when knocking down a robot in the opening cutscene of the Sonic story in 2006.

Everything was good until we saw him in the post credits. Look,Shadow doesn't look good in Live Action Counterpart because of the child friendly demenor they're trying to give him. His Video Game performace in SA2 and His Video Game (Even though His game isn't canon),was personally better than his teaser. Plus,they may not be able to find a VA or even be able to have enough money to add him in.
I personally want Shadow the Hedgehog, Metal Sonic, Rouge the Bat and Amy Rose appearing in the 3rd and final installment.
I don’t think the third will be the final installment.

They’ve actually got a whole cinematic universe planned with characters even getting their own shows like Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, and even Jet.
The voice Robotnik has when he gets the emerald is a reference to the Saturday morning cartoon.
I thought his voice when they cut to outside of the big robot sounded like the cartoon version...glad I'm not the only one who noticed that...
Wow... WatchMojo mentioned Sonic Battle. That alone is impressive cuz no one talks about that game. But loved every reference in the movie. Makes you feel young again as a Sonic fan

Something I'm not seeing anyone mention is the scene where Sonic and Tails enter the bar(?) in Siberia
Tails tries to use one of his gadgets to translate his words and speak for him when ordering food, but the translator keeps saying the wrong things
Just like how, for a majority of Sonic Colors, Tails' translator keeps mistranslating what the Wisps say
I see no one mentioning Knuckles using his downward dive attack to catch up to Tails and Sonic in the car chase. He was struggling to keep up until they hit a downward slope :)
I also like how Robotnik says 'Stop snivling' to Agent Stone when he says 'Take me with you~!' just like Snivley did in SatAM.
WatchMojo forgot the part when Sonic and Tails are having a dance off, Sonic does the signature Sonic Adventure pose. It is a reference to the box art for the original Sonic Adventure on the Sega Dreamcast.
Let’s hope ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ will possibly make over 120 million globally during the first weekend.

You forgot to mention that moment where Sonic sucks that air bubble underwater when he was saving Knuckles, just like in the games when he needs to breathe, as well as him reacting when he's near drowning.

They mention him using an air bubble but they don't mention you can hear the drowning sound as Knuckles swims away
the Ugandan Knuckles references was so early and so subtle, seems that it went over most peoples heads

Very impressive
Its appropriate that the final battle of the movie was against the Death Egg Robot. Just like in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 game. A great climax to a movie based of a game.
There is a scene where Knuckles punches the Emerald out of Robotnik referencing The Sonic 3 Cutscene of Knuckles punching Super Sonic :)

As a Sonic fan, I really enjoyed the movie! It's got more action, more mischief, and lots of references to past games(sorry if I spoiled stuff)! It's a really great video game movie, and I'd recommened you see it too!
I'm surprised no one mentioned how Sonic performed his SA1 pose during the movie. He was in the middle of dodging another attack when he did it.

It's really small and easy to miss, but in Labyrinth Zone where the Master Emerald is being held, there is actually a Perfect Chaos mural. Like I said, small and easy to miss, and I actually didn't know about it until I watched the Sonic Movie 2 episode of the Sunset City podcast (which I recommend, btw) but it's really cool, and who knows? Might just be foreshadowing a future movie.
I’m calling it now Shadow is going to be the villain for the first half similar to this movie with Knuckles, but Metal Sonic is going to be the main overarching bad guy
Metal Sonic and Shadow may be too demanding in Budget and they might be able to find a VA for our non canon dark boy.
Fun fact: When Agent Stones is looking for new suits for Dr Robotnik, we can see both Robotniks classic costume and the "BLACK MAMBA" from Megamind, but with Robotnik's color pallet and R instead of M.
i remember when the first teaser was released showing the first cgi of sonic and the internet got mad but was heard. if they pushed through with that original animation, we will never have this amazing sequel ✌️ yep better than the first
Funny that ugly sonic gets his own cameo in the chip and Dale movie....if you haven't seen that, you should really check it out...
My favorite was at the beginning when Eggman first meets knuckles and says "I can show you the way!" I laughed so hard because of Knuckles' voice.
My one hope for the sequel is that Shadow survives.
Shadow did survive that fall from the ending of Sonic Adventure 2. And yes this is true because if you played Shadow The Hedgehog and when you take on the final boss and if you pass 8 minutes into it, Eggman tells Shadow that he found him where he crashed at the end of after he and Sonic's the final battle against The Biolizard.
The one in heroes is an android, but the one in the 2005 game is the original from sa2

Something you missed was the drowning scene in the movie. When knuckles was swimming up and sonic was trying to swim up, you could hear a brief “melody” of the drowning theme when sonic is running low on air in all the games. It’s played in the violins.
In the opening when robotnick meets knuckles he says: “I can show you the way” which is a reference to the Uganda Knuckles meme
Please bring us Metal Sonic in the movies too!
I was hoping a Metal Sonic teaser at the end, but then we all see Sonic Adventure 2 Easter Eggs in the movies which was very obvious that in was going to be Shadow at the end of the movie.

ha, 50 years ago, by today's metric makes Shadow a 1972 baby, it was originally the 1950's but it's been 20 years since he was introduced. time is yet again making us all feel old ='D
Ooo I wonder if anyone else saw the helicopter landing in green hills, and if they got a close look at the letters on it that said “SA2” on it plus what looks like a “>” next to it as a way of saying Sonic Adventure 2 is one of the greatest, plus as a reference to how the hero side started in sonic adventure 2 with the helicopter.
Also for the knuckles series I hope they bring in Chaotix
And for the sequel movie, if they have a Gerald Robotnik like the game, I think Michael Douglas (Hank Pym in MCU) can portray him the best especially after we saw his performance in the ant man movies and Marvel’s what-if show
I’m a big Sonic fan, and my favorite reference wasn’t even in a Sonic reference. It was a Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Rec reference: “…the wOOooOorst”
I fanboyed so hard with that one! Speaking of which, if Amy does appear in the next film, I want Jenny Slate to be the voice and make her and Sonic have a brother-sister dynamic due to the amazing chemistry Jenny and Ben had together in Parks and Rec as Jean-Ralphio and Mona Lisa.

Missed a blink-and-miss-it carving of Chaos on the temple walls, as well as references to Emerald coast from SA1 when Sonic washes up on the island.
The director is officially a rabid sonic fan--you can't make a movie that chock full of easter eggs without loving the series at least a little.

What would have happened if we saw Robotnik creating Metal Sonic with one of the quills from Sonic the Hedgehog in this movie?
What many may not have noticed when Sonic went Super is when Super Sonic is first shown: his quills were still down like normal, a possible reference to the classic games where in some circumstances, Super Sonic's quills will appear as normal, while he is flashing gold.
I was sat in the cinema watching it with my brother and every easter egg or reference i noticed i started getting super excited and telling him about it every time it came on screen lol

There's a sound effect from Mario Kart 8 too. So for those who haven't played Mario Kart 8, there's a mode called Battle Royale (something like that) and before, there were these old tracks. I remember there being a sound effect, no idea what it was for, but it's used as a sound effect in the movie by the road chase when Sonic rolls into a ball and crashes into Robotnik's robot vehicle.

I can't imagine how they would adapt Sonic Adventure 2 to a movie since it's Eggman's grandfather who created Shadow. I do hope they bring Sally Acorn into the next movie and not Amy though. And would love to see Metal Sonic instead of Shadow as the final antagonist.
What if instead of the biolizard Gerald tried creating a robot(metal sonic) as the ultimate life form before shadow, then bear the end when knuckles frees the chaos emeralds from the shrine the prototype ultimate life form (metal) appears and uses chaos control to accelerate the ark into earth so sonic and shadow evolve to super state and team up and in an epic final battle against super metal sonic. Hire me, Paramount.
Tails' voice actress Colleen O'Shaughnesee is also his va in the video games.

Just watched Sonic 2 before this video, lucky day!
This is the second or third time I've heard someone refer to the booby trapped temple leading up to the master emerald "Labyrinth Zone", and while I think they did include some things visually to reference that, I don't think it was Labyrinth Zone. After dealing with the traps and approaching Eggman and Knuckles, Sonic refers to the place as a "Secret Temple", or to put it another way a "Hidden Palace". This is further backed up by Hidden Palace Zone being the location of the master emerald in Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and by the background sprite work for the infamous Hidden Palace Zone cut from Sonic 2 showing up in the end credits animation.
Fun fact -
1. The chaos emeralds and super sonic actually started from sonic franchise's second adaptation, Sonic the hedgehod 2, whicis also shown in the second movie adaptation, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (same with tales, first came out in both sonic the hedgehod 2).
2. The tales's translating gadget doing a wrong translation is also a reference to sonic franchise, Sonic colors. Tales uses similar gaget to translate wisp's talk, but didn't go well at the first.
3. When Sonic, Knucles, Tales does power fist, the position of three are exactly the same position as Sonic Heroes logo.
4. This could be going too far, but master emerald chaning its size. When it first came out(Sonic and Knuckles) It was really big,(like big as eggmobile) but for some reason, it got smaller in sonic adventure 2 upto the hand size of knuckles.
I thought it was good. My favorite part was the dance-off.

I noticed a reference at the beginning of the movie on my first viewing of the film, and I've only seen it mentioned once online, so it's driving me insane that no one else has picked up on it.
When Eggman shoots that beam up into space from Mushroom Planet, three bounty hunters come through a ring portal. If you take a closer look at their helmets, they're very clearly designed after the Babylon Rogues, and the first one that gets thrown even sounds like Jet (he is also wearing the Jet helmet)
I have not seen the movie yet. But I saw a clip of the shadow scene and I am fangirling like crazy 🥰

5:53 *specifically the US version of the theme song. The European version of the show's theme song just has the words "Sonic X" on repeat.
I actually hope to see the Satam characters in the movie universe and having Princess Sally in the film as a strong female character as well as a love interest to Sonic since it would be interesting to see the movie version of Sonic fall in love as it's a feeling he literally has never felt before that point
Another cool refrence is that a G.U.N helicopter has “sa2” written on it. This is a fun nod to GUN debuing in sonic adventure 2
