      Amazing and so true!...
      How many millions of people go out there to enjoy nature (hunters, fishermen, campers, hickers, etc.) and how many get hurt or killed compare to us, the human species, killing them for "sports" or because they bother us?...

      WildWolf Music As stated in one reply they are not always released. Only when out of wolf season. During season the wolf would have been shot or clubbed to death to prevent harming the pelt.

      LPS Winter They we’re trying to get it to bite down on the stick. They had to get the noose on the wolf somehow, and in case it snapped at him, the wolf would have had to spit out the stick first to be able to snap at him. They usually wouldn’t bite if he already had something in his mouth. Go learn about wolves before you comment about them. Would you just go up to it and just disable the trap without any protection?

I'm only a handful of miles away from where some of these releases took place. aka lake Elwood. and to see other like minded hunters take on the job of stewardship of the outdoors is to me the sign of a true outdoorsman. even though at times and in places we have higher than desired wolf populations to return these trapped wolves back to the population is part of what is missing from most likely almost every hunter. best of luck keep up the good work.

    I just watched your wolf release #4 and I see you guys already got the pole thru the loop idea. Well i guess i should have watched all of your videos. Great job in 4 of securing the dog with the pole to release the foot. Works same as coat. You guys are getting good at this. Smaller and weaker dog but goes much quicker with the pole thru the loop method. Problem is the more we mess with these apex predators the smarter they become. Fast is good but safe is better. Great videos! keep them coming!

  • @smwnl9072
    @smwnl9072 Před 8 lety +36

    As an animal lover, I would say that Walter and team treated the wolf with respect. Which is commendable.
    Although they are the cause of the wolf's predicament in the first place,
    yet they believe that it is for the overall good of the population (wolves).
    I'm neither condemning nor condoning them.
    But with respect to trophy hunters & Japanese whalers,
    I think they are saints in comparison.
    Do note that their actions are uploaded to CZcams for internet scrutiny,
    and the comments section isn't disabled.

    • @walterroberts1535
      @walterroberts1535  Před 8 lety +16

      +Sm WnL The perspective of a one over view of these videos should be obvious that there is no trophy hunting nor mass annihilation of any one species involved here. The incidental catching of wolves during a legal and necessary trapping season for coyotes is unfortunate; however, the release of incidental catches is much more productive for all concerned than to kill them as many would, given the chance. Thank you for your view and for commenting!

    • @Bryant1963
      @Bryant1963 Před 6 lety +3

      Sm WnL Well that's because you don't understand what's REALLY going on! Wolves need to be managed. I was born and raised in Montana & we have a lot of wolves there but the issue that you're not aware of & is way to often never put out to the public by the fish & that is, how the population of wolves will grow like crazy here in the in the lower 48 because of the different food source the wolves feed on here, unless they are managed and thinned out! Meaning, that it's elk and moose down here that are the main source of food for wolf packs in the lower 48, unlike the wolves in Canada and Alaska! The main source of food for them to eat up there are, far more conditioned than elk Caribou and bigger moose then we have down here & in Canada & Alaska that game that wolves Hunt are spread out over a much larger range of Territory & so wolves up there only have the amount of pups from the Alpha pair, in direct relation to the amount of food available in those larger area where they live & hunt. Up there they're only able to kill the caribou and moose that are old, sick or injured because caribou usually always out in wide open landscape, not in the timbered land, which makes it much harder for wolves to run them down when in the open & caribou are much more conditioned then Elk because of this and moose up there are much larger then they are down here & the game in Alaska & Canada are spread out over a much bigger area & so those wolves can't just kill to eat anytime they want, like they can while feeding on elk down here in the lower 48! A good size wolf can take down & kill a full grown healthy cow elk, all by himself!! And the more Elk herds wolves eat through here in the lower 48, like the 30,000 head of Elk the wolves ate through within a 5 year period in Yellowstone national park, the less Elk there will be & the more livestock they'll eat instead!! Then before long wolves will be a VERY BIG problem here in the the lower 48, just like they once were, so they have to be managed and many times trapping is the only way to do that & even though I don't like trapping but when it comes to wolves, in many cases that's about the only way you're going to get close enough to one to harvest it! In many places wolves are very skittish because they have very good senses & are FAST learners & so when they get shot at, they don't stand around & let you get a second chance before they get the point & stay very clear from humans!! Now the one part about this video that does bother me is the fact that dumb and dumber here are setting out traps when it is no longer wolf season & they know damn well wolves will be in those traps but it's obvious they're only doing it so they can put it on CZcams & look cool to everyone but to me, watching them two in action looks like a cluster fuck but I guess at least their practicing! Lol. Traps are dangerous to other animals as well & so it's never a good idea to be putting traps all over the goddamn place when there's no reason for it but being cool on CZcams!

    In one part of the video, the wolf seems to understand that the men are trying to help him and finally gives up! These animals are indeed very intelligent and they deserve to be saved by men!!!

    Friendly advise for you gents.
    Wrap the long stick with electric tape making it feel like flesh. Then put it through the hoop.
    When the wolf bites the stick he won't let go and you can slide the noose over his head.
    I have a lot of experience with this.
    This method will make the release far less harmful and time consuming.
    Thanks for what you do.

    I admire what you guys are doing. I wish I lived nearby, I would love to help you. Since you seem to know you're going to go out and find these guys, carry a blanket with you and throw that over their head once you have the snare on. It'll help tremendously to calm them down. Also, rather than going directly in to the head with the snare, begin as far away from the head as possible and just gently touch and rub. take your time and work up to the head, this will make it easier on both you and the wolf as well. Good work guys.

    Awesome and nice release again...I have caught 3 in the last 2 years and have had a few others pull out...To much wolf sign around my part of Upper Michigan and hardly any deer left at all...Just curious what you use for bait and scent...I use mostly Minnesota brand predator bait,Hiawatha Valley and some Tainted beaver at times...I use GHII for a call lure...Do you care if I come back and share these video's on my Google plus for my subscribers?

    • @walterroberts1535
      @walterroberts1535  Před 8 lety +1

      +Heith Gagnon Share away Heith Gagnon, and there are occasions when we use the same baits you mentioned and get a little louder this time of year with a Gusto lure. Most of the wolves are in flats a few in dirt hole so scent posts seem to keep the coyotes closer and wolves seem to ignore without a loud bait.

      Stephanie García Stephanie you don't realize that the only reason this wolf was released is because it wasn't wolf season. Otherwise the wolf would have been shot or clubbed to death to prevent harming the precious pelt. The released wolf's have to try and survive with sometimes a severely crushed foot from the trap.

    Best strategy -- poke the stick through the noose. When wolf bites stick, simply slip the noose over his neck.

    • @bettybech4475
      @bettybech4475 Před 8 lety

      Those guys seem pretty scared of the wolf and for good
      reasons.
      The wolf is probably thinking…I got trapped by those two
      guys ganging up on me now, who are armed with neck sticks and guns and I will
      fight teeth and claws before they eat me for dinner because if the situation
      were reversed, I, the wild wolf, would get them and eat them for dinner, hunting
      them with my pack of wolves, without needing a trap, sticks or weapons, just a
      pack of wolves, highly hierarchical and having complex social behavior.
      Some wolves are rejected by the pack because they lost a
      fight and they got injured or they’re too old, too sick…
      That wolf had a bad eye so he could have been injured in a
      fight with another younger wolf…or injured by another animal while being
      trapped.
      Some birds will eat your eyes if you’re trapped.
      Take a tamed domesticated 6lbs cute cat and try to get her
      teeth cleaned…you cannot do that without total anesthesia (that makes it twice
      as expensive as for humans).
      The cat is not human and will fight teeth and claws before
      letting a dental vet hygienist use metal noisy tools in her mouth.
      I like a dental cleaning knowing my 6 months dental cleaning
      is for my own good (I prefer a dental cleaning to a massage) but some people
      don’t like to go to the dentist that is why they should go more often, before it’s
      worse if they would need fillings, crowns or get gum diseases and lose teeth if
      they don’t brush after meals, floss, use WaterPik, Stim-U-dent…
      Those guys might be able to handle a wolf with neck sticks
      (when will some inventor invents something better to control a wild animal,
      short of using tranquilizers??). They have weapons and do a good job freeing the
      wolf from traps (I’d like to see the video where humans get caught in coyotes’
      traps) but they’re surely not “wolves’ whisperers”.
      Telling a wild wolf “calm down, we’re here to help you” is
      not really helping.
      Wolves do not talk human language but can understand body
      language once you first understand their body language.
      That wolf has been injured, he’s trapped, scared, he’s
      probably thirsty and hungry, and might better calm down if you bring water and
      food so now he will know you want to help him.
