Nice job, would love to see how this transfers to the bike, and how the route went and is shown. Would like to know do waypoints require stopping/deleting, do the waypoints announce (hope not unless a stop such as gas / food) do turns announce correctly etc. Currently use a Garmin XT and like that I can create custom routes on Basecamp and transfer to unit as well as not announce shaping points. Looking at the BMW R1250RT and new Harley Road Glide with the new infotainment and mapping/navigation for custom routes is a must have for me.
Thank you. Once you have map on the connected app you get it on the bike as bike screen on RT is just an extension of your phone screen. So no need to load it separately on bike system. Yes you can control way points, add new waypoints, etc while riding the motorcycle without touching the phone. It’s a turn by turn navigation so system gives prompts but haven’t particularly tested waypoint announcements. I’ll see if I have some videos on this. Currently my bike is snow covered so can’t make a new video just yet 😊
Importing a track into the Connected app will not allow you skip or add waypoints. If you add enough waypoints into your Google Maps route, you can import with the Waypoints option and still have your planned route with the other benefits as well. You could also post the link of the utility that creates a GPX file from the Google Maps link.
Thank for pointing it out. Link is added to the description. Agreed and yes your are correct. I import waypoints when I do not know the roads in the area much. That way connected app can plan a route that is more curvy or what better suits the ride at the time.
Thanks so much for this! For some reason when I email the gpx file to my phone I can’t open it and connected app sees it but it’s not able to open? Any suggestions would be welcome!
Not sure what’s issue sending via emails. Try sending the file to yourself via WhatsApp or Telegram apps. That seems to work every time. I have imported files sent via email before without any problem.
Have you found a way to pull up your GPX route from the bike TFT or do you open it up on the phone first? I see nothing in the TFT that says Imported Routes. Mike
The route gets recorded to the app as long as it is connected to the bike when riding. You don’t need to use Connected app map if that’s not your preference but it needs to be connected.
Hi do you know if you can add POI with name or Waypoints symbol with name in BMW app I have tried to add waypoint for coffee stop etc, can see them in Garmin Basecamp but do not show in BMW app
