I had an elderly friend live with me for 5 years and my German Shepherd watched over her 24/7. He saved her life twice when she had medical emergencies in the middle of the night by rousing me so i could call the ambulance. He and my friend died within months of each other and i believe they are together in Heaven.

I have had nine GSD over the past 40 years ,( 3 of them from the same breeder) . Each of them were so different and SUPER intelligent and I have different memories of each. One of them, Jacko, particularly loved people and other dogs, especially at our training sessions. One day he ran up to one of the instructors to greet him , but after sniffing him hello, he proceeded to lift his leg and pee on him. I was very embarrassed . The following week this whole scene was REPEATED!! And few weeks later this instructor came to tell us that after various tests he had been diagnosed with brain cancer!!! Not the end yet.. About 8 months later, the same thing happened with someone else as they came onto our training grounds!! This second person passed away a few months later - also from cancer. So Jacko was either trying to tell us the people were seriously ill OR he was trying to rid them of their illnesses!! German Shepherds are super- intelligent, gentle, loving and above all faithful!!

When, as a kid, I would rough house with my German Shepherd, he knew exactly what to do to make me laugh. He would pin me down and rub his paw on my face. I could swear that he was looking straight at me when I laughed uncontrollably. He also knew scrap time when the family meal ended. He knew when Dad was gathering up left over meat for him and would bring his dish. Finally, as my father spoke two languages in the house, the dog understood both English and Yiddish. (Seeing as Yiddish is a Germanic language, maybe he had a hand - or paw - up!)

I am a dog lover and we've had a variety of dogs since we've been married, almost 47 years. Our red nose pit bull, Sweetie, kept nudging and sniffing at my husband's back and she did this for about 3 months. He ended up having to go to the Dr because of blood in his urine. We told the Dr. what Sweetie had been doing and she said that some hospitals use dogs for that purpose. Dogs are so very smart. I can't imagine life without them.

I get lots of kisses from dogs that I just met. Dogs know who's afraid or unfriendly and sense it. I live in a small apartment , live alone, had to get to rid of my car and in pain everyday but when I see a dog, the pain goes away! I pet them after seeing their body language and know which ones I can show love to. I don't show fear... just love. Many people tell me to get a pet but as much as I would love it, I can't pay pet insurance, vet bills, shots, walks, etc. I feel that if you are unable to take care of a pet and can't afford it. I shouldn't have one. Not fair to the pet. I also think about my age and a pet outliving me. Then what? I have nobody close as my children live in far away states

The gsd will be the first one to leave the house for walking or for a ride when you say "mama's or papa's shoes." He / she is too smart for human. We as a human, we don't know how many languages , words or actions does the gsd knows. In my life, so far I had been with at least 7 breed of dogs. But no other dogs like this kind. It really melt your ♥. Sometimes, The dog thinks ahead than human. Very smart and intelligent breed. Sometimes it is very scary, it is because the dog knows what you want. Hmmm

All my pets of which they chose me! I call myself an animal whisperer whether it's turkey buzzards, racoons, opossums, llamas, deer, cats, birds, foxes and too many to mention. Every animal just followed me home! I feel lucky and they listen to me for as long as I can. It's amazing! I tried to save a dolphin. It was March 1st in NJ. I went in the ocean that was very cold and wouldn't give up until I had it on the sand . Unfortunately the right side of it's jaw was bitten and it lost a lot of blood. Probably sharks but I didn't care. Just thought that maybe I could save it but sadly I couldn't. I stopped at the gate to tell them what happened and where it was. He said I shouldn't have done that but I would do it again as I drove home so cold and my teeth chattered. Saved many animals when I could. It's just who I am and my love of animals and people.

Our family GS could detect an appointment with the V. E. T. even over a phone conversation or the preparations for the car ride. We would have to chase him down and drag him across the garage floor to get him to go. No, enticing him with treats did not work. Also, at the veterinary office, our normally confident even boisterous GS, would be timid and have his tail between his legs. Like he smelled the anxiety of the thousands of other dogs that were there before.

This may take a while but I think it's worth it :) In Australia when we plug an appliance into the wall socket there is a little switch to turn the appliance on, and off again. You don't have to unplug it. My GSD followed me everywhere, except to my small bathroom were I had my toilet and a shower in my bath. I was having a shower one morning and my dog Anna came in, slid the shower curtain aside and just looked at me. Huh? That never happened before. I laughed and told her to go away. She looked back to the doorway and back to stare at me again. Now I was worried. I went out and saw black smoke coming out of my old pre-flatscreen TV. I carefully reached around the TV to turn the power off and saved my house possibly and both our lives too.

This past weekend, while I was trying to cut a stump in the front yard, a dog that looks a lot like a German shepherd came up with a tennis ball and dropped it at my feet. I tried to ignore him, but he kept looking down at the ball and then looking up at me, As if to say, throw my ball. Come on, James, throw my ball. I did throw it a couple times. and he tore off and immediately grabbed the ball and brought it right back. I suppose it's possible for a dog to have too much enthusiasm and too much energy for me.

Please don't hurt their feelings. Those dogs are very sensitive about it. They know you love them and in return, they do the same to you till death. They are love, royal, obedience, well trained dog. They are just lovable animals. No doubt about them.

I had 2 GSDs. The first, a female, was smart but the second, a male, though sweet-natured, was the dumbest dog I’ve ever had. The three that I’ve had who related on a deeper level: a husky rescue, an elkhound, and the Boston Terrier I now have.
