To sum it up: the R1S is the ultimate dog car! Once they keep the fans going all the time in the rear and have faster fan speeds. If you are looking for a car to fit all your dogs and their gear, this car might just be for you! I am super impressed by this car.
What about button lock out to prevent dogs from opening windows, etc.?
This is the first time I've ever seen a review specifically looking at a dog's comfort in a vehicle. Well done and much needed.
Cool having Alyssa do all the talking for some change of pace 😅
Thank God!
Good information in the video that also helps those without pups too... Also, had to LOL when Alyssa was telling Kyle not to press update for the latest OTA update from Rivian and his finger was still hovering!
Congratulations, you are officially the FIRST youtuber I have seen with an actual R1S in real life that you are touching and using in real life!
Awesome video, loved having Alyssa explain these things. Also loved how Ellie at 15:51 was like "I'll just walk myself, thank you very much!" as she ambles down the parking lot.
Every car review video needs to be this thoroughly dog-tested. More!!
So much this! That"s one of my first thoughts, when looking at cars - "will this work for my dog?".
I'm currently looking at the Fisker Ocean, and asking that very question.
I love the points and questions she brought up. Out of spec never disappoints with their comprehensive videos.
A very useful review! I ordered my R1S almost 1000 days ago and have dogs. So it is so nice to get dog friendly info! thanks!
Always appreciate a great vehicle dog review! Keep up the awesome work Alyssa and Out of Spec Team!
Yep. My old dog just passed away a few weeks ago. And I totally get what you meant about having to carry her in and out. I did that with her even for my truck's rear seat. At 13 yo, she would want to jump in like she used to, but she won't have the strength.
Great job Alyssa! This is such great info for those of us whose lives revolve around our dogs. More please!
Great Job Alyssa!! It was an excellent review and thank to Kyle for filming...quietly this time😁
must have absolutely KILLED him to be quiet
Ok, this is REALLY GOOD stuff. Love your normal content, but I am really pleased to have such a laser focus on dog stuff, since we roadtrip with our dog - thank you!
Omg!!! This is the review I’ve been waiting over a year for!! Thank you so much!!🎉❤
We have 6 Beardies. Everybody fits happy in soft crates anchored down. Under the crates is a canvas sheet to contain hair and beach sand. Additional vent air comes from dash vent tube kits that clip into place, Just aim the tubes where you want them. The Rivian has become the "dog car". My dream list would be a rechargeable vacuum for the camp speaker pocket.
Fantastic information! Alyssa is such a joy to watch!!! Someday, can you do a dog POV for the Model Y too, pretty please 😊 Big thumbs up 👍👍👍
This video was great. The dogs are so adorable. Thank you for making it!!
Love this review! Great job Alyssa!
A whole lot of woof...liking the dogs and the Rivian R1S (if I could afford it).
What a great review! This is the first review I've ever seen anywhere that had a dog test like this. What a great idea - and well executed! Loads of great info. Thanks! (if I were to get a truck, it'd be this one)
Very well thought out and presented from a long term dog owner perspective.
Great video Alyssa, thanks! More Alyssa!
great video! So much fluffs! Dogs are just the best!
Great video! I am about to pickup my Ionic 5 on Saturday, a smaller sized vehicle to haul our recent rescue, Bower a 8 year old Yellow Labrador retriever, have taken him to from Gibsons, BC to Calgary in our 2020 Soul EV (about 1100KM one way) he did very well as he had the whole back seat with his 3 x 4 foot pet bed, now with the Ionic I am looking forward to the pillar vents that are in the back and more expansive space! Not quite a Rivian R1S but a lot bigger than my Soul EV!
Super cool! Hopefully we'll see some of those updates
This is all great information and thank you very much for providing it. Noticing the "ton of dog hair" that has already accumulated in the R1s cargo area, the easiest way to reduce this as a problem would be if Rivian had "rubberized the cargo area, including the tailgate surface. Instead the carpet is basically a dog hair magnet. Rivian should either change this design feature or at a minimum offer rubber cargo mats as an option or Gear Shop item. Another good feature for dog safety would be a pet barrier mounted behind the second row that prevents a dog from flying forward into the front rows in the event of a collision or emergency stop.
Thanks Alyssa for the great information 👍
Love the videos. Would you guys mind telling us/showing us about the difference between the on road and off road underbody protection? Trying to decide if it's worth $2k.
Awesome Floofer demonstration. 🙂
Love the dogs and a video looking at practical aspects in detail
Great video Alyssa! My Golden Retriever and I love the dog-ev content!
Pretty cool to see a dog focused car review! Thank you!
Someone could make 3d printable plastic sliders/covers to fill in the side tie-down points. Then release the 3d printable data so anyone can print it!
Great video, thanks. Really good details. I would be interested in more space and layout videos like this in future, but for cargo and bikes etc.. kind of like bjorn with his banana box test.
Alyssa + Dogs = WIN 👏
My favorite part was Ellie wagging her tail when she heard her name. :)
I look forward to getting all the doggie detailing deets!
If you have a 3M window tint shop apply 3M Crystalline to the roof and windows, it is available CLEAR or tinted and it blocks 99% of infrared (sun heat) and ultraviolet. Invisible once installed, but totally blocks heat from the sun. Very few companies make similar products.
Great video and beautiful dogs
Love the color
R1S getting properly dirty! Love it!
Loved this! Very helpful as I’m considering the R1S vs the R1T with my two large dogs. I am a bit concerned about the rear tailgate hieght, however. One of my two big dogs is less athletic and getting a bit arthritic. I currently drive a 2012 Honda CRV which has a tailgate hieght of only 26 inches, and my less athletic one sometimes has trouble with getting up there-she can do it but she really has to take her time and muster the gusto to make the jump up and I think it bothers her arthritic joints. My dogs each weigh around 85lbs so I’m not going to be able to lift and put either of them in there…
Wondering if there is any alternative configuration of sone seats up and others down that might give a non-athletic dog easier access? Like if half the middle row seat is up, how high is the entry through the rear passenger doors, then hopping up on the middle seat that is up, on over to the middle seat that is down, and then access the cargo area for the ride. Could you test that out with your less athletic dog to see if she can do it and then let us know? Do you have any recommendations on a third party dog ramp or stairs that could work with the R1S?
Thanks again for this informative video!
This has to be the cutest video on this channel, I'll take Charley😊
Thanks for the dog-focused review, Alyssa! We have 3 shepherd mutts (55-85 lbs). Would love to see what the Rivian looks like with crates in there. Also, you mentioned custom crates. Any recommendations on where to get those?
Variocage, TransK9, and TNC Crates
Love this video! More dogs in every video plz.
Awesome presentation.
Initially Rivian offered a five-seat option. As someone without kids and with dogs, this was my choice. Alas, it went away. So my intent going forward will likely be all five back-row seats being down all the time for my dogs, home supply good, etc. My hope is that Rivian or something such as #WeatherTech will offer an R1S full-bed mat that covers any seams, slots, etc. Thanks for the video!
Thanks!
What if you close front vents (or most of them) will it increase fan speed in the rear like it does on a normal vehicle that the airflow is diverted to any open vents if you close others.
Thanks for the great testing! Did you notice when in dog mode 😊, if could feel the sun through the sun roof? Sometimes the radiation heats up a dog crate. I wonder if after market makes a ceiling sunshade for the Rivian??
The r1s is the ultimate everything
Well done Alyssa!
Does anyone here know where and when the Rivian meetup is in Fort Collins tomorrow? The link in the last R1S review does not work. I would love to go!
Is there a carge net that separates the trunk from the passengers? For me, with one large dog, I would fold the third row, install a divider (lengthwise) to split the area between the dog and bags, and have either a net or bars between the back and the second row. It's a normal accessory for many brands. And who doesn't want a net/bars between cargo and passengers if you're loading up with a lot of gear?
Great video. More dog videos, please!
Thank you for posting this. I'm in the market for one of these and we show Boxers. This answered a lot of questions about dogs in the rear of the vehicle. Did they ever do an over the air update for the climate control?
You gotta do more reviews!!
I get my R1S next month, has anyone made protectors for those tie down slides?
Love the dogs. Yep steps are the way.
Is the function of the 3rd row air vents determined by weight or whether the 3rd row seats are unfolded? Either way not ideal for transporting dogs.
Did you get any scratches on the wooden trim from the dogs?
Welcome to another video of Out of Spec Petting 🐕
😍 Alyssa!
What was the height of the tailgate at the highest suspension?
this is the cutest video
Floor to roof inside looks a little low. Is it same height as say a Ford Expedition? We use that with our Irish Wolfhound and Berner. They could both stand up inside that.
I'm sure two pieces of wood dowel or square aluminum tubing would safely fill those tracks. Or, of course, you might want a carpet roll or blanket to place inside the whole rear to keep the car clean & dogs comfy. No big deal.
It might be nice if they also made a conventional pet "fence" to keep pets and crates in the rear section.
Has anyone tried the dog hammocks I see advertised on Facebook for rear-seat dog protection, are there any reviews for dog products in cars like this?
Aylssa, you should have someone 3D print some slots covers to go in those rear slots.
Great video. Good to know my dogs will be fine. Also wow this car is so dirty already lol
Can the 3rd row be removed? Or even the second?
Yes, but can you fit a sandworm in there?
My comment is: If Rivian can give you control of the kneel then you would be able to kneel the rear and leave the front high. This would give you possibly another one or two inches lower at the tailgate.
The ultimate dog hauler was also once upon a time a full-size station wagon.
Rivian R1S is only 7" longer than a 1979 Chevy Malibu station wagon. The 1973 Chrysler Town & Country station wagon was two feet *LONGER* than the Rivian. Longer than the Hummer EV, longer than the Rivian R1T. And got about the same gas mileage as a modern full size pickup.
R1S is just a station wagon that has been lifted to be off-road capable.
Love station wagons! Also why I love cars like this...
Can Ellie get down easily if you keep one seat up?
Happy you advocated for crates.
ALL THE DOGES!
Where are the crates ?
Can a crate size for a Japanese Akita fit in the back
Obi-Wan Dogobi: "That's no arm rest, that's a Bleu perch!"
To put so kind of weight sensor that should work with the rear seats up or down to control air coming out of the most rear vents is crazy. You add cost, add a complication for the hvac controls and reduce the flexibility of an all manual switching.
Not good.
If you have pups, buy this!!!!!!! ULTIMATE DOG HAULER!!!
Well when you're in Auto mode for the HVAC it'll change from front face to floor depending on the temp set and what the temp is in the vehicle. You should've forced the air to be front facing only and then test. (i'm typing this w/ out finishing the vid. Not sure if this was mentioned later)
Did you give the dogs a choice? Or just loaded them up in the vehicle you chose? 🐕🐶
What’s the best floor cover to protect your beautiful R1S from all of that dog hair?
The "ultimate dog hauler" been around for decades...it's called a "van". Plenty of space for the dogs, easier to clean, and available at affordable prices.
Not everyone wants a Van? And can't take Van's off roading unless you have an expensive one.
@@sethmisaelhernandez5902 and you think most of the potential costumers will take this R1S off roading in some tough tracks? More like maul crawling. If you're are serious about off road, better go with some old ICE truck you can have a long tour without the risk to get stranded in the middle of the wild, of fearing getting some panels damaged.
@RogerM Serious off roading is for modded vehicles, but for Light/Intermediate difficulty trails I'm sure most would prefer the comfort of a vehicle like this where they can take their dogs with them.
ID Buzz ain't cheap so that's busted
@@chengcao418 in Europe there are affordable BEV vans available as the the Renault Kangoo E-Tech.
Thanks for the dog review. All of my cars need to be dog cars.
The rivan is a Range Rover killer!
This is the ultimate dog hauler
Dog: 👅 👅 👅 👅
They came out with Pet comfort mode ? You probably never heard of Tesla ?
let her do more review. Maybe not so dog centric.....but let her do more reviews
Not gonna lie, skipped to the dog loading for the doggos
Dodger Durango 6/7 seat model has excellent Rear Climate control.
well at least the dogs think it looks nice
You know you are not a dog person when all the dog hair in that beautiful 100K car gives you anxiety. 😅
Ugh hade the same thought. That thing will need a recondition.
Check list.....dogs clean and well groomed....check..........Rivian cleaned for great presentation....nah!
come on guys!
The 0000.1% issues .
🤣ya okay 100k$ to haul my dogs!!! That's what my 2005 Honda Accord is for "the dog car".
The dog is going to ruin this $100k suv. I need a old truck for my dog
