  • This dahlia tour includes all the dahlias in bloom in my garden right now.
    I’ve named every variety and shown them in detail to help you select the dahlia varieties that you’d like in your gardens next season and in the future.
    We’ve had a slow start this year due to the unprecedented heat wave and lack of rainfall, not to mention that the deer ate every single one of my young plants back in June, and consequently, they’ve had to make a supreme effort to grow back. Thank goodness nature knows how to combat pesky pests! 🤣
    💚I will only ever recommend products that I use regularly and believe to be good value💚

      Your dahlias are really beautiful and you have a large variety! Thank you so much for taking on the large task of labeling. It is so appreciated! Wonderful video and great job. 😊 I am from the USA and lived in East Anglia for four years when my husband was in the USAF stationed at RAF Mildenhall. I love the UK! ❤

    Slightly off topic but a few weeks back I wrote to you about some bargain dahlia tubers I’d bought (3 for £3.99!) and as it was the wrong time for planting I wasn’t sure what to do. You advised me to plant them and remarkably they took beautifully and have even flowered this week . Thanks for the help.

    Amazing videos and dahlias! I also bought some tubers from FG earlier this year, but unfortunately most of my dahlias had severe spider mite infestation and only two survived 😭 Did you have to spray yours often?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Před rokem +1

      Hi there, that is such a shame to hear, I'm so sorry. No, I didn't have to spray mine at all. I was so lucky but I think the spider mite is affected by the weather - they like hot and dry conditions. It could be helpful to overhead water them if it gets too dry where you live. Good luck for this season ahead.

    Hi Annette, What a beautiful Dahlia tour. I have a huge problem with earwigs eating my Dahlias. Have you any advice?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Jane, we haven't struggled that much with earwigs although we do come across the odd one. I've heard that an upturned pot, filled with straw and balanced on the top of a cane, will attract the earwigs and then in the morning, you can dispose of them as you see fit!

    Lovely Dahlias ! :) I have a question : I've just planted my 4 dahlias too early ( March 20) - should do this in mid April for zone 7b... :/ Can I cover them with something OR should I dig them out and pot them till April ?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Před rokem

      Hi Matheya. if it's not actually frozen ground, then you could try putting a poly tunnel over them or loads of mulch. To be honest, I've never risked it with my dahlias but you definitely don't want the tubers to freeze - they will turn to mush. If it's not going to go below freezing where you are, then they might be ok. If you think it might freeze and you have the energy🤣 to dig them up again, I'd be inclined to pot them up and keep them in a greenhouse/indoors until the weather is warmer. Than can tolerate 'cold' but not a freeze. Good luck.

      @matheya Před rokem +1

      @@cottoverdi Thank you ! During the day it's around 16-18 C. Night: -3/+2. The ground is not frozen. Oh welll... we'll see.

    Thanks for the Stunning video!!!!
    Good job! Your video gave me more dahlias to add to my list. I loved the Hillcrest one, Night Silence and many more. I grew Fancy Pants, only because they sent me the wrong tuber, but it was a really fun one and went well in my arrangements, i only had one thin bamboo stake and it stood straight with really straight stems. What are a few of your favorites?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Před rokem

      Thanks Michelle. Fancy Pants was new for me this year and initially I didn't think it was that great, but as the season has progressed, the flowers have won me over and now I love it! I also love Night Silence because it's such an unusual colour for a dahlia and I've had so many blooms from that one plant. I love Wizard of Oz because it's jus the perfect colour, and Burlesca because it goes with everything and has such vivid colour blends. The collarettes appeal to me, especially April Heather and Night Butterfly. What are your favourites?

    • @michellejames5953
      @michellejames5953 Před rokem

      @@cottoverdi Yeah the night silence has the moody colors that a lot of people are into now, I’m sure it translates well into fall arrangements. My wizard of OZ only gave me a couple blooms, but I received terrible tubers, wrong tubers and ones with crown gall from Longfields, so it may have been my tuber. I loved Waltzing Matilda (so Beautiful and prolific), Cafe Au lait and the Royal, Bell of Barmera (my largest-just stunning), Daisy Duke-really strong dark stems and great producer. I also have Bishop of Dover- sent by mistake but it has dark foliage, open center that’s white/faint lavender, short. it produced really well. My Apple Blossom and Castle drive never flowered, they were the 2 I paid the most for and was most excited for. Btw, I grew in 7 gallon grow bags. It is my 1st time growing.

    • @cottoverdi

      Hi, I'm sorry but I don't sell seeds or tubers but most of these varieties should be fairly easy to find from dahlia suppliers. 😁🌸

    Can I order bulbs? How?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Před rokem

      Hi Inoka, I don't sell tubers but you can definitely order them from other places now, in fact, many popular varieties will be selling out but you can also order rooted cuttings and they will arrive later if that works better for you. 🌸💚
