    I cut my first bouquet of clarkia today, in the morning, when it was cool and the plants were well hydrated. The plants began drooping in the vase within an hour of cutting, starting from the tip of the branch to the bottom. I cannot imagine why that would have happened. Wonder if you have suggestions for preventing that.

    Your channel has become essential viewing now. I was going to hunt through your videos looking to see if you had anything like this one and you beat me to it! I’ve just acquired an old Belfast sink from our builder friend and want to make it a sedum garden. I love sedums. Where do you buy new small sedums from? Do you have a favourite supplier? I found this so useful, how tightly you pack them, how you can split them up, and the half-and-half tip for the soil mix. I’m excited all over again now.

    Great choice of plants Annette. I love the way that little Cosmo always comes to inspect what you and Richard are doing. Had a great time at David Austin's rose place and there was still a lot to see even though some of the roses had already finished their second flush. We practically had the place to ourselves with it being so late in the season. It was hard to decide which roses I wanted to buy but came away with Harlow Carr, Ancient Mariner, Tottering by Gently and Emily Bronte. Emily smells amazing and I wish I'd bought her sooner. I could have bought more but there was only so much room in the car plus my pockets aren't that deep! I'd make a return visit if we were ever in that area again. Good to see that your finger is okay but sorry that you've caught a cold. These viruses can make us feel quite unwell. Hope you feel better soon. x

Both types of plants contrasting beautifully with each other. When the grassed grow it will look spectacular. I m going to hav a go at growing the Schizachyrium Prairie Blues- it looks gorgeous. I have just potted up some Pennisetum Cream Falls together with some ivory Escholtzia, which I grew both from seed earlier in this year. Happy gardening 🙂 x

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi Před 8 dny

      Hi Joke, if you didn't pinch them before they were planted, then definitely go ahead and take out the first bloom stalk - take it out at the point where the new shoots are forming. Alternatively, you could leave the first bud to bloom so that you can enjoy it and then ensure you deadhead promptly when it goes over. Does this make sense?

    Dear Annette, your love and enjoyment really shines through and you video today made me so happy because the detail and effort you put in is not only useful, but we get to see the beauty of all the varieties that are blooming. This year I have more than last year because some of the ones I sowed were not blooming the first year, so maybe I sowed them too late. I loved many of the ones you showed today and that last shot of them all together was glorious. My mother in law got some from a nursery this year and they are stunning bold colours, which I am hoping to get some seeds for myself if I can find a seed seller that sells seed mixes. Your joy is really coming through and is so infectious. I could easily spend hours walking in your beautiful garden and chat with you about all the colour schemes and ideas you have for planting up your flowers. Snapdragons have 4 growing groups, you would need to research the varieties along with the group number which tells you when they flower

      Hi Annie, it might be helpful to plant your out in stages, so maybe plant a few seedlings one week and then some more after 2 weeks. I've definitely found that the staggered approach will give me a longer season. 😊

    Hi, would you be able to offer some advice please? We have a gunni azura that we moved from one spot in the garden to another whilst it was just under 2 yrs old so had reached about 10-12 feet high. Since moving, all the leaves have gone brown and red, and basically died :(( but the bark seems to still be light green when we shaved a bit. I really don’t know what to do - do we need to remove the dead leaves or cut off some branches?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi Před 8 dny

      Hi there, I'm not sure which zone you're in but if your season is similar to mine then it's best to leave all pruning until March. However, if you have a definite dead branch, then it would be okay to take this off. I'm not an expert but this is what I do. 😊

    Will you collect your snapdragon seeds to sow next year? If yes, perhaps you can show us how? Thanks for the tour and lesson.

      @cottoverdi Před 8 dny

      Hi Stan, I don;t tend to collect the seeds from my snapdragons because a lot of them are F1 but also, because I grow so many varieties, they will probably cross-pollinate and then I won't know which colour will grow from the seed. 😊

    Potomac dark orange is my favorite! Thank you for showing all the snapdragons next to each other... I asked for it in other video's, so really really love it! Now you can really see the difference between colours, wich normally is hard to see on video. Can't wait for more video's like this, thank you again! Love from the Netherlands.

    Annette you’ve added a few more snapdragons to my growing list! Costa lavender for example 🤤imagine that pairing with a coffee colour rose?? Very jealous of your Potomac royal - there was some sort of issue with seed over here in the southern hemisphere so not an option this season unfortunately. I’m trying to get Christmas bouquets of Potomac ivory and red so fingers crossed that timing works out. Have you considered planting your snap dragons in the autumn? I always get much healthier crops when planted in the autumn - particularly for the group ones and twos. P.s that sanguisorba is awesome!

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi Před 8 dny

      Hi Cat, yes, I've sown snaps in the autumn in previous years but last year we were on holiday during the sowing window so I sowed in February. To be honest, they are plenty tall enough for my garden and so I don't mind that I sowed them 'late'. What a shame about the lack of Potomac Royal - I'd really miss that vibrant colour! 😊

  • @tracybromage-spencer1882

    You have opened my eyes to appreciate the Snapdragon. I always pass by the "big standard" not really giving it a thought . BUT I'd write a favourite and then you would show another 😊 I think I'm going to add a few of the Potomac line next year to add much needed height in my very small garden. Thanks for a lovely comparison and it seems to me a complimentary type of flower.

    I‘m growing many of your varieties this year and potamac lavender has been the most prolific one. I‘ve been cutting and cutting from it and it just doesnt stop producing nice long stems for over 8 weeks now. I am really excited for your dahlia videos and would suggest that you try Waltzing Mathilda next year. It‘s really beautiful!!

    Hello hello, i think I might have harvested a bit late, some of the corms I harvested has some black tips and is soft, I’m afraid it’s already mushy, is that still good if some tip of the tube is bad? Well they germinate next year? thank you very much!

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi Před 8 dny

      Hi Edward, black soft tips don't sound good at all, I'm afraid. If you do decide to store them, keep them separate from the corms that are healthy. Good luck 😊

      @@cottoverdi ahhh thank you so much, I think it's a great idea I didn't think of lol, I will keep them separate and pre sprout separately next year. I wonder when is the best stage to pull them out the ground, I was waiting for the to go all brown, but now I think that's too late, probably after bloom but before all the leaves die back, thank you!

    This was so helpful! For the past handful of years I’ve grown the rocket variety and am getting a bit bored. I think I’ll order the Potamac series from Johnny’s Seeds here in the US come fall. I start mine always in January- it usually takes 3 weeks for mine to germinate. So I definitely need to go watch your seed starting video for tips!

      Ah, yes, I used to have the rocket variety too but I love the Potomac for the tall strong stems and their simplicity. 😊
