  • While famously competitive, the Brisbane Boys College First XV rugby team has only achieved a single GPS title - a shared premiership in 1954 - and coupled with the rampantly passionate rugby culture at the school, its anticipation of an outright victory is feverish.
This award-winning series follows the BBC First XV throughout the 2019 season, experiencing the ebb and flow of the team’s fortunes, through the prism of high school sport. While concentrating specifically on the rugby program, the school’s vast co-curricular menu becomes a character in the story where each boy benefits holistically from all opportunities provided by the school. The First XV is motivated to secure that elusive premiership, however as the season evolves, it becomes obvious that greater life lessons will prove more valuable than any trophy or title.
In the first episode, the audience is taken to Round 6 of the Queensland GPS Rugby competition where the only two unbeaten teams in the premiership race come face to face in the effort to gain ascendancy over the other. In the confronting aftermath, we journey back to the foundation-building pre-season where the coaching staff have decided that mental fortitude should work hand in hand with physical development. And as the team prepares for 2019 kickoff against Churchie, the cameras look inside a traditional part of BBC’s match day experience.

@@arza0932 in Wales rugby is our national sport and we don't get crowds this big, we get like 30-50 odd for like an adult rugby club game in terms of like amateur rugby, like club rugby. Though for us in the UK mostly school boy sports and college sporfs aren't that big, and pretty much unless you go pro or playing a final for like a amateur or semi pro team you will only ever see crowds of like 30-50. I do think premiership (which is like the league under the pro 14 in Wales like that's wales's top league) you may have like 100 because of the quality of the club's and because most clubs that play premiership the reason they are so good is because everyone in the communities live and breathe rugby so it means most the youngsters from there end up playing for them or going pro so obviously the crowds will be bigger but crowds this big is mad, would love to see that at a game, the atmosphere must be unbelievable

It's good to see so much young talented Rugby players in a school boys Rugby since Onion tv season 1 you can see all the culture School Boy rugby shows by having that bond and comradery in local footy, but one day most of the top of talented players will wind up in Europe or Japanese Rugby..
The reason NRL is kicking Super Rugbys ass is all about TV deals, i grew up watching both codes NRL(Arl, nswrl and Superleague) and Super Rugby(Super 12s,14s,15s), NRL was ok cause they showed delayed Friday night game and one Sunday footy match it was ok product but Super Rugby was the best it had all the best players starting in 1996 it still showed all games live on Fox Sports which meant live in pubs and etc so ppl could watch it @ home and pubs before NRL kicked off and then channel 9 started showing live games on free to air tv and that was the game changer, Super Rugby got left behind and the two reasons which is people stop getting Foxtel and 2nd All Blacks and Wallabies got selfish by stop letting best talents out of Pacific to play for their provincial sides rather telling them to play for them or else, and "else" came calling which was Japanese, French and British and Irish clubs, pacific islanders and 30yrs+ ex Wallabies and All Blacks made more money for European clubs and the game more popular there then it was and now Super Rugby is fielding club players who back in the days wouldn't get a call up to Super Rugby so now there is a big hole left by not just by older players which is 30yrs+ ex All Blacks or Wallabies but also now current players leaving for Europe and Japanese Rugby, Super Rugby has gone from A+ Product to now like a B Grade, lots of South Africans now play in Europe and Japan, it's not just hurting Super Rugby but the national team as well, South Africa made a big difference by choosing players from Europe and Japan for Springboks and look what they did won the 2019 World Cup, Wallabies does the same with 60cap+ players.... Make Super Great again, sell rights not just to pay tv but also free to air tv just like NRL does, let pacific islanders and other internationals play, 7 internationals maximum per team, you only gonna field 23 All Blacks and Wallabies so there 5 and 4 SR teams to fit them in plus have them okay and train with best internationals not with backup Club players, you can only be the best by playing against the best....

Personally I'd prefer they don't cover a SA First XV team because too many cynical and envious knobs like Canvas Bed above will ignore our skills and just say its steroids regardless of the boys' capabilities and even though guys like this don't even know the boys from a bar of soap and would rather just be slanderous towards them.
Funny all the Grey College 2019 boys with local and overses contracts got in no problems after being tested. France took about a dozen of our top boys from last year. Not single one failed - the SA schools team gets tested every year and is no different to any other nation.
I can foresee a weekly episode on Paarl or Grey will just be full of horrible finger pointing comments and will likely be somewhat unpleasant. I would rather we just get on with our business in SA without that negativity and slander - our kids don't need that.
They know what they are capable of and can get the job done without a TV program.

Unfortunately schoolboy rugby is limited to the elite in Australia, which is union's demise and what makes league thrive outside of the private school system and in the suburbs.
Rugby Australia would rather ignore the failings of their grassroots entry and invest in the top end, which has hurt them for almost a couple of decades now.
