      Hey Caleb, I noticed you haven't explored the Apple TV+ app for the theater experience. This is the best movie experience on Apple Vision Pro. Simply start a movie in the Apple TV+ app and locate the environment icon ⛰ at the top left corner. Select it, and you'll find three options: your current environment in light or dark, and a Cinema option.
      The first two options will expand your screen beyond what you could manually achieve and immerse it in the environment, giving you a sense of grandeur. As for the cinema environment, you can select your preferred seating position-front row, middle row, back row, floor, or balcony. To do so, just navigate to the media player bar.
      Give it a try for an enhanced movie-watching experience!

      I doubt it could beat a Sony QD-OLED tv but that things cost like $4,000… so far Apple hasn’t sold me because I much rather spend that money on a high end tv or Alienware laptop . For that money
      I could get the laptop, QDOLED monitor and mouse and keyboard . Also a few basic questions most reviewers aren’t asking 1. Who do they expect to buy this ? 2. Who do they expect to pay the price ? 3. Is this a pro or customer market ? Because I get the feeling that this is a workstation device that will do with a high end MacBook Pro that for 3d modeling or something similar.

      @@PatrickAdia Good points, thank you.
      One reviewer took his AVP into a movie theater. From a middle row position, the AVP large screen image more than covered the theater screen, which he showed by switching to pass through twice.
      Caleb didn't perceive it as big, but he is an experienced AV professional. He couldn't feel the illusion, even though most would. But in Cinema option, the basic illusion is enhanced by the familiar setting in photo-realist... 3d.
      I bet Caleb would immerse into the illusion then.
      Who would want a cinema size screen? People who have projectors or want 100+ inch tvs, for sure. Maybe anyone who experienced it too.

    When you talk about the screen feeling like it was too close, despite the space looking 3D, you're describing 'Vergence-Accommodation Conflict'.
    The focus point int he headset is fixed, despite the convergance giving the image 3d structure. In real life, focus and convergance are tied together. If VR, they're forcibly seperated, which accounts for a LOT of people's discomfort in them. and makes the content feel like it's at a fixed distance, despite looking 3D.
    I've seen a lot of VR reviewers talk about this issue but they put a name to it. I wish reviewers would talk about the need for verifocal lenses (lenses which allow focus and convergence to match) more so consumers could put a name to the phennomenon they experiance, so headset makers cna make it more of a priority. This one thing still puts a lot of people off playing VR fromt he strain and nausia.

      This is interesting. I haven't noticed this at all, but I really don't use the AVP for anything other than a screen like a TV or monitor.
      I have had all the Quests and you do have to remind yourself you're in a game and you're not supposed to be moving, which I think helps your mind adjust. I've felt the nausea previously but now I don't really get it at all. One thing that helped me adjust was to just stop if you get nauseous, don't fight through it.

      @@weplayvrgames If you watched the video you'll see that he says the video quality is comparable, if not better in some ways to to the TVs you are talking about, plus, as he mentioned, 3D is as good as it gets, and there are reasons, even if you can't think of any, why a person would want home theater quality video and sound, without wanting others to hear it, or without the ability to have a 100 inch screen. I'm not going to get one, but the future isn't always clear and there may come a day where I don't have the space for a full theater and these might be not only better, but also cost comparible. So, not for me, but also not a rip off to some people

      and a lot of people now are doing "van life" or sharing a house with a ton of people because living has gotten so expensive. While it is expensive, if you really want a great movie experience with extremely limited space, this could be one of the very best options, and it is truly much cheaper than building a real home theater...which would be a giant waste if only one person wants that experience.

    Spot on review. I watched Mad Max Fury Road on the Vision Pro this week and aside from technical glitches brought on from laying in bed, it was an amazing experience. The 3D is top notch and I don't even have the prescription inserts yet (bought in in-store on Monday, inserts are out for delivery today which is Thursday). Nailed it. I have an A95K (not L) and find myself reaching for the AVP when I’m going to watch a movie alone. It’s an incredible device (and it’s a good comparison, since my TV and the AVP cost a near identical amount.) AirPods Pro sound better with this device than they have any right to, but I have been meaning to experiment with sending audio to my ATMOS home theater, not sure if I’ll be able to get it to work.
    This is a fantastic device for watching movies. Avatar in D+ is indescribable. Looks better than I remember in the theater.
    This device has weaknesses, and isn’t very good for gaming… but I am so happy I own it. I was skeptical at the price, it now that I’ve owned it for a month I would pay $5k instead of $3500. It’s that good.

Is it safe to assume that the Apple Vision Pro (even with the Pro buds) cannot replicate the experience (pressure, hit-you-in-the-chest feeling,) of a surround system with top-of-the-line subwoofers? I have one. Watching this review right now with it.
    I love having a movie theater sized screen that I can take with me everywhere I go.
    When was the last time you had a movie theater with you on an airplane?
    Or on the train?
    Or in your hotel room?
    If you have a theater room, then no, this won't replace that because there is a slight goggles effect.
    But everywhere else you go, my goodness it's nice to have.

Me and a lot of folks already got a 120hz - VRR tv and avr, so why we need to purchase a new device only for a license or certification. Thanks for the video.

    Is TrueCut motion what James Cameron used for Avatar The Way of Water? I had very mixed feelings about it because for that film it was pretty much just a binary switch between 24fps and 48fps, and the constant switch on a shot-by-shot basis was distracting. I'd rather have the entire film 24fps or 48fps and not switch back and forth. I saw the film in IMAX twice and Dolby Cinema once and my feelings were the same about the HFR across formats.

    Great video! I had a Vision Pro for a couple weeks and ultimately returned it because the lens glare/flare was just too much for me. Not everyone seems to note this and it makes me wonder if this was a phenomena maybe I'm just very sensitive to, perhaps the individual unit itself was worse than others, or perhaps the particular fit on my face made it more noticeable. This was definitely internal pancake lens reflections and not light bleed. Did you notice this much in your viewing?

    • @jmg5369
      @jmg5369 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I returned mine for the exact same reason. I kept thinking it was external light getting in until I kept experiencing the issue in an entirely dark room. It completely ruined the experience for me and ultimately led to my returning the device.

    • @duggus777
      @duggus777 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@jmg5369 interesting that you had the same experience. It feels like someone is shining a flashlight at the lenses at some off angle. The Meta Quest 3 has a bit of this as well but it’s far less severe for me. The lenses on the Quest 3 are also much larger so I wonder if that or some other property of those lenses helps mitigate that.

      @broimnotyourbro Před 2 měsíci +2

      Varies by facial geometry and other factors, and will be the toughest thing for future pancake optics to overcome. A less dark environment helps a lot, but removes a key advantage. I’m fortunate that it doesn’t hit me much, yet I find the Quest 3 almost unusable due to glare - just luck of the draw in terms my face fitting the AVP better. (trying different facial interfaces can help) You do get used to it, but it’s a huge problem (seems to be exacerbated slightly by prescription lenses, too) Source: been working on the engineering side in the VR space since 2012.

  • @jackr.749
    @jackr.749 Před 2 měsíci +2

    Hello.
    You mentioned the brightness, the Vision Pro uses "Pancake" optics, these in themselves absorb a lot of light on their own, so the OLED panels in the headset are considerably brighter than the light making it to your eyes.
    Also, "Spatial Audio", another great way of experiencing this is a game on SteamVR called "Half Life Alyx", this is probably the best game ever made for VR, the audio is insane, in a darkened area in the game, you can hear little sounds (left say to the right rear of you) and you will turn around just to find out there is nothing there, it adds so much to the immersion and the experience.
    Great review of the Vision Pro by the way, I'm Canadian, it's not available here yet, but once it is, it'll be over $4700.00 Canadian before taxes, so this is one item that is forbiddingly expensive, I won't be getting this since I like keeping my body parts right where they are (none for sale)! 04:39 I got a Vive in 2017 and experienced the motion sickness effect exactly one time, and from then on it was only intentional because getting my VR Legs was easy enough so I noticed right away what was wrong in the game I was playing. In that case it was simply that the camera was slightly off center when turning L/R with the trackpads so your character doesn't quite move right.

      It's late to the party of VR headsets, it costs $3.5k + tax & has limited use over an iPad which it basically is. The product is really for devs to try to develop apps, however most of them so far are simply iPad apps made to work better on the AVP, no real AR or VR apps. That is why the media viewing aspect is being pushed, it won't really work apart from 3d content because no one is going to strap a heavy uncomfortable VR headset just to watch media. VR gamers do it because that is the only way to play VR games. So the 3D movie aspect is the best reason to strap a AVP to the face.

Good enough where I had to check and make sure I wasn’t actually hearing the system. It can’t , however, reproduce the tactile feel of 3 subs, but other than that, it’s convincing.

Whether you want to watch a movie in 3D (Apple TV has a ton and Disney has all the Avatar/Marvel movies and a bunch of animated ones) or even just enjoy streaming on anything it's awesome, insanely immersive with Spatial audio and a theater sized TV.

    Interesting take. I've been doing film and video projection since 1985 (in many different formats) and the AVP impressed me greatly. I'm a big fan of the big screen, but I can certainly see displays like this being a huge part of home video. Just the 2D content I watched was watching looked superb. Did it feel like being in a huge cinema? No, but as you said, that might not matter. What mattered was the experience and being drawn into the content in a way that no TV has ever done for me. Some very good home theater projection has done that.
    My wife asked if something with the quality of the AVP but without all the "computing" could be better than TV at about the same price as a good TV. I think so, and would certainly enjoy it. Add great 3D content to that and it would be very addicting.
