  • Which Audio & Timecode cables are needed for RED Digital Cinema's Komodo? Here's a guide with all interfacing solutions and accessories linked below.
UPDATE/NOTE: While the Komodo's 9pin Extension Port has a pin labelled Timecode Out, RED has not yet made this function possible. It can receive Timecode in, but the Camera cannot currently be used as a primary Timecode generator.

Anyway to have one mic record on both 3 & 4? Is there also an option to monitor one mic channel in both L & R in your headphones? Thanks!

Are you saying it's possible to avoid the B-Box and use the 9pin to BNC straight into camera for Timecode that you linked in the description?

Yes, that cable amzn.to/3xYUJR3 takes a BNC into the Komodo's Timecode input (via the 9pin Lemo Jack).

@@redwoodmediaco.2202 Alvin has one with right angle to 3.5 TRS (probably they have BNC as well). Let me know if you can't find it.

Komodo DOES NOT have timecode out. The official pin out diagram from RED shows timecode out but it is not activated as of yet in camera. This is why RED sucks. I bought the Komodo knowing that the audio preamps sucked, but I thought I could trigger record via timecode out to my MixPre6 II, as I do on my ARRI ALEXA, but found out it does't work. I hate RED for there hacky perpetual beta firmware.

Wow! Sneaky RED! I dId not know this. I typically send TC in. Thanks for the heads up.

@@HubLocationSound Yes, with a proper sound person, TC in is the way, but when you need to run-n-gun, and you need decent audio, it would be nice to attach the MixPre6 to my rig and connect to TC out, with REC RUN timecode, so this way I only need to press record on camera and it will trigger record on the audio recorder at same time, without my having to press record on both devices. This record trigger functionality is possible on nearly every DSLR, but not on Komodo. This cannot be a big deal for RED to implement, why after nearly two years is the camera still not fully functional as designed? Cheers.

Can’t you just jam the pre-mix six and then hook up the time code generator for the Alexa like they do in the real world

@@lifeingeneral9111 Yes, but this is for normal double system sound, if you want single system, single operator, to record high quality audio, it requires pressing record on both the camera and the recorder. The Komodo was designed with timecode out, it shows it in the Komodo pin out diagram, RED just needs to enable it. Then, when you press record on the camera, the recorder runs/stops. Really easy. We need to stop making excuses for RED and press them to finish the firmware in the camera, as fas as I'm concerned, Komodo firmware is still beta.
