Found myself in a Rene Lavand to Michael Vincent rabbit hole of magic and now I'm stuck again 4 hrs deep.

The woman is the perfect audience. She is caught by the story and Michael is having fun as much as she is. Technique is only part of the effect, his presentation, gentle and elegant misdirection produce a fantastic illusion. Magic is not about impressing someone, it is about sharing, it is about love.
