a removing bottom panel to get to button may be to dezign for it
I think the speakers are really bad and one of the worst features of the unit. Also they gave us a ton of games they released on other things, it would have been nice to see other games on here like Top Hunter and such. I feel like for the price we should have gotten a bit better quality. I love the bar top idea, but its too expensive for what it offers.

Thanks MLP you've helped me decide on whether to purchase this cab or pass. Taking apart the back panel and seeing how tight the components and work space is.......I'll hold off. Thanks Ron!! Like you said, millions of different ways play and how does this cab differentiate with other emulators? Great point!! I don't see the differentiation. Mushy buttons!! Might as well purchase an arcade1up if I want mushy buttons. Plus I have the Arcade Stick Pro....I'm good!!!
Thanks for the no bs review. After modding my ASP with seimitsu parts my concern was if the controls on here would be as good. You’d think for $500 they could at least give us a quality stick and buttons. Genuine buttons are like $3 a piece.

See, this is why companies should consult you before they send the designs to the manufacture to mass produce. Instead, they make something and ship the units to a bunch of people to review... most of which won't dare be appropriately critical of it for fear they won't get any more review units or freebee's down the line.

When I saw the little coin door, my first thought was "Oh cool, that must be the insert coin button on there. That's a nifty little touch". I can't believe they dropped the ball on that & it does nothing. It seems so obvious, too!

I agree with the points you made, and we all saw these problems coming before anyone even received a review unit. But I'm still happy I pre-ordered one the day they became available, because it's 90% what I have wanted for two years now. I'm happy with imperfect, although I really hope they take this criticism to heart and release an updated unit with 4 (better) buttons and no mini coin door. I'll get that one too, and my original model can be retired to the community games room along with the model 1.0 Toyshock pinball.

Nice review! I am very happy because now I know I will be able to change the stick and buttons relatively easy! For their next model they should make the panel removable like the actually cabinet!

For $500 the stick and buttons SHOULD BE arcade perfect. They should have went with semitsu like it was in japan.
Nice honest review. I agree, they really needed the normal 4 button Neo Geo look, maybe do 4 on top and add 3 on the bottom if you want to make the modding community happy. Missed opportunity to set themselves apart. So many other ways to play these games.
Thanks MLP. I was seriously considering this cab but after your review its a no go. It looked way too hard to change the buttons and sticks out. I’m big on buttons and sticks. Thanks for opening it up, we wouldn’t of known about the buttons unless you did that. Saved me $500. 👍
I like the 6 button layout. It makes the unit more versatile and if modable, would allow to add other fighters that use a 6 button layout. The unit looks nice but $500 is too much for me.

I agree with you on the button layout issues. I brought with other reviewers and they didn't seem to care. I'm glad you were honest enough to bring it up.
Some peoples expectations are different then mine I guess. When you make a Neo Geo product but make it function like a multicade or Street Fighter II machine with its button layout it is no longer entitled to be considered a Neo Geo machine. Just an emulation device made to look like a MVS.

So nice to see someone not sell out to companies. You hear reviewers say they are not being paid to review the unit, but the unit is on loan from the manufacture. CZcamsrs are being paid to review devices, it is called views. If they say nice things about the items they review then companies will send them more items to review. They may not be getting paid directly by the company providing the item, but their review is generating income, so they need to keep it positive. You just keep it honest.

Of everyone I have seen talk about this yours is the only review that really provided the real deal about all aspects of this cabinet. Thank you bro! I am very surprised about the quality of the buttons. I don’t think the people,e making these realize the quality and care that went into SNK’s original NEO GEO products. Nothing since the original AES or CD consoles and also the 90’s “Big Red” cabinets from the North American market. The people making these don’t realize that people are willing to pay a little bit more money for attention to detail and quality. The controls from your feedback on them could have been a lot better however I still have a mostly favorable opinion of it. Would I buy this if I had the space and money based upon what I have seen so far? No. It doesn’t celebrate NEO GEO in the way the brand deserves to be recognized and regarded. It lacks the care that the original creators put into this platform to really make something special that people are still playing and enjoying 30 years later. As a fan of NEO GEO from back in the 90’s and owner of an AES, CD, and ASP this just misses the mark for me.

You can undo just the screws in the front and the control panel pops off. No need to take the rest of it apart if you just want to swap parts. Grab a Seimistu flat mounting plate (just like the ASP) and you’ll be Golden on sticks. Agree on the buttons, they should have been iL/Happ style with a microswitch. A short stem will for sure fit in there and there was even enough room for a long stem but I didn’t get crazy and line all six up.
Unreal they cheap out on something so important as buttons.

I really want to see more of these mini systems get released with lots of improvements and the ability to add games without hacking. Retro-bit should make a new Retro-Cade next year. There’s so much that can be improved with these emulation systems.
Loved this honest review
I liked the rubber pads in the bottom. Overall, I think it's a cool cab, but you can build one like that pretty easy, and with better controls, buttons, use a raspberry pi for a better user interface and have more games.
Personally, I think that buying a cab takes 50% of the fun of having one at home. It's so cool to build one that I wanna sell mine and star all over again.

I always like screw in buttons.
On my old arcade stick i switched out the snap style to screw type sanwa buttons.
Man as much as I want one of these November was not the month for them to release it in.

How are the buttons compared to the buttons in the NeoGeo arcade stick pro?

Thanks for the Honest Review MLP. I was waiting for your review.. When you removed the back panel it showed how cramped the inside part of the cabinet. But the Button quality looked horrible. Loved that comment " A Kids Toy" 😂... I canceled my pre-order. I will wait and see if they release a cabinet with better quality controls and in true Neo Geo fashion 4 buttons SNK Layout. And with some space between Player 1 and Player 2.
I totally agree on the 6 button layout thing. That was my exact thought when I first saw pictures... why does it have 6 buttons and not 4 buttons? None of the games include support a 6 button layout. 🙄

I am totally fine with the 6 button layout, but not so much with low quality buttons.
Having deja vu when you opened the back up and when I put my Arcade1Up together. Looks familiar. Real shame about the buttons, but I'd like to hope that it wouldn't be too hard to swap out the buttons with some better ones...even some light up ones, who knows?

I have this on preorder and got $100 off and had $75 in unused gift cards. Still feel iffy on this one. I am more excited for my Ms Pacman cocktail table that is being shipped to me now than I am with this NeoGeo cab, between the speakers, the buttons, and the weird ass riser. I'm in now, always wanted a Samurai Showdown cab, wish A1U was given the license to do it, but sadly this seemed to be the only way. I regret not getting the MicroCenter 3/4 cab this past summer and just building it myself all fall.

Interesting take on the buttons. The MJR review had people that own an actual cab and said they liked the buttons a lot, so I wonder if the buttons crapped out already or they just haven't played w good buttons like sanwa.
LOL the buttons didnt crap out they are just mushy crap. Absolutely nothing like whats normally used on a MVS unit, not even close.
Sticking with my AES, NeoCD and my 2 Consolised MVS systems ✌️

I never owned an original Neo Geo console and most arcades that I played games like the King of Fighters they were cabinets with a 6 button layout so to me that's not a big deal. I had play on the big red Neo Geo original arcade and it is a very nice experience so I do understand your purest point of view of having everything legit but you have to understand that there are a lot of people they would like to have one arcade machine that plays capcom Fighters and SNK Fighters and other arcade games all in one

I know this was 3 years ago, but you don't have to tear the whole unit down to access the control deck.
If you take out the screws at the bottom (It's like 4 or 5 screws) the control deck slides right out.

Totally agree with the layout- 4 button is your staple and you deviate away from that? Total miss. Also, I don’t really get it w these cabinets. How much more would it be to install better buttons stock? Add it on to the total- I’ll pay for it! 😂
Good review mlp my friend and like I said in mjr comments...wth no blazing Star ⭐ one of if the best neo Geo games ever... and hopefully the modding community will be available so we can add every neo Geo games and cd to 👊🤔😁👍 And $500 is pricey to imo.
I agree completely with the 4 buttons layout preference. Cut down cost and keep purist happy. For those that kept complaining about not having enough game variations, there are still 16 titles left on the system after you count all the fighters. I can't say I'm disappointed.
I would buy this but i would be replacing the buttons as well because i don't like the concave style of buttons no matter how good or bad they would be.

I'm sure that cramped space gets pretty hot which could lead to the speakers illing out as well as the visuals. But if not. Seeing they gave less than 2 bits of bottled piss about the buttons. One can best believe them speaker wires are loose and touching or something else is touching causing the malfunction(s).
Buttons are no problem to switch out, I would switch out the six buttons for four. This should be Neo Geo all of the way and released with a four button layout. This shouldn't have been a bartop, instead it should be a full 3/4 scale arcade. I wish the price was a bit lower for this. I do want to get this and make it into a proper Neo Geo MVS.

Definitely an upgrade from the Arcade1up stuff. Should have a full library though. The licensing shouldn’t be a problem for SNK since everything is in-house so I’m confused why there aren’t more non-fighting games. Will I buy a stock unit...? Nah. A unit signed by several of my favorite CZcamsrs?! I’ll definitely be bidding on that one!!!
GHOSTfaceKILLr74 my mistake. I was always under the impression that 90% of the games belonged to them.
The arcade1ups are over a grand and this sits at around 650 with the stand. This is still a better option based on price alone. However, yea, add an extra 50 to 100 and have decent buttons and i'd love it more.
Gonna pick up a Unico Fun R1 instead.

You need six buttons for snk vs capcom when it’s hacked
If it let's you install that hylo hack then that means it's probably got the same guts as the arcade stick pro. They just changed the interface a bit. That's the reason they could get the price so low as all your truly paying for is the the parts built around the board. The board uses the same crappy cpu as the arcade stick pro. They couldn't use a more powerful cpu or the price would have definitely gone up. Of course this just speculation but we won't know until someone cracks open that cabinet to see whats truly under the hood.

If the Hylo hack works on this machine then the 6 button layout is a big plus, but those booboo buttons sound like a deal killer. Why couldn't they just put the same quality buttons from the ASP in this machine? The ASP is a fraction of the price and now we are being asked to pay a premium price solely for aesthetics and inferior quality. Unacceptable! Uniqo needs to address this.

Not certain how much this will help you over in the UK Larry, but in the US its expected to release around November 24, 2020.

I will stick with 2 ASP, at least you can easily replace the buttons and play on a descent sized screen, the sound system you want and players don't need to fight for breathing space.

I agree 100% Ron when paying that kind of money for a Neo Geo product it best look, sound, and play like one! Glad you saved me alot of time and money not to order this one.🙂
Biggest concern was latency and screen quality. I have the funds so at least swapping the buttons and sticks are easy enough. Game library could be better. If they don’t drop more games legit - then hackermann it is. :)
Def with upgraded buttons etc could be bad ass.

It seems that Atgames, Arcade 1UP, and any of these inexpensive cabs don't have the best controls. My Atgames legend Ultimate I changed my Joystick to Sanwa and my buttons to IL buttons and it makes a better experience. The Atgames Legend Ultimate buttons and joysticks are not this bad as the MVSX has. Thanks for the great video.

Can you hack this to add games?
Definitely looks like it, but for a loaner cab I didn't want to explore too far into it. It recognizes the Hylostick hack and its definitely made with adding games in mind. So 100% can confidently say you will be able to add games to this shortly after its released.
So it’s a NeoASP in a mini-cab. Good news is you’ll get ALL Neo games (and bunch of Capcom too if you want). Bad news is that it’s a $500 NeoASP. Take that as you will.
