  • What partner is best for an INFP? The ENFJ? The ESTJ? Or maybe another INFP? I believe love is a complex equation that combines what we are attracted to in other people... as well as what we need from our partner or in a relationship. A person that we are attracted to but who does not give us what we need is a flame. A person that we are not attracted to, but who helps nurture and support our needs, is a friend. A person who we find both attractive and who gives us our needs, is our ideal match. To know this, we need to know both our MBTI type, and our Enneagram type. These are some of my thoughts on INFP Love & Dating and what you can do to have better relationships with other people.

    I'm an infp and what I find that is the biggest turn off being superficial and having bad pride where the person is not humble or transparent. What I do find attractive is passion in constantly Learning, being attentive, wanting to do similar activities that I like. A caring person. And a person that can say something that helps me stay calm when I get nervous. I want a person that has a personal perspective on life that is lead by love. A person that can have faith but that can also think independently would be nice but not sure if its realistic.

    • @dezkightz
      @dezkightz Před 5 lety +1

      I'm pretty much the same, outside of the personal perspective lead by love thing (I'm a jaded INFP 6w5). I don't value love as much, I value wisdom more. Also faith in what? I'm a gnostic atheist, so I don't necessarily believe in any one god, but I believe that there is a higher power out there. That's definitely realistic anyway - many of the world's greatest intellectuals were religious, even though one would be quick to pin them with secularism.

    INFP married to an INTJ for almost 11 years and 10/10 would recommend this personality pairing. We are so compatible and balance each other so well. Our relationship is so deep and satisfying, yet we can be silly and playful with each other too. We help each other to grow, and I feel like we've both become so much better because of what we have learned from each other. He's my best friend in the whole world, and I can't imagine a better match for me. I love him so much and can't imagine life without him. He makes me so happy, and I just feel at home around him. INTJ's love to make things more efficient which is soooo nice and helpful. So for single INFP's, take a chance on an INTJ! Just remember they keep their true selves and emotions inside until you can earn their trust, but once you do you are in for an amazing journey. INTJ's are fascinating people, and I admire them so much

Well I think that's subjective. I'm an Enfp who enjoys individualism, so I appreciate it quite alot when my partner is also independent & has time to focus his time on himself & vice versa. Wow. I'm an INFP 4w5 dating an INTP 9w1. I was really surprisedto hear you say that the best match for an INFP type 4 or just an INFP trying to grow and better themselves would be an INTP. I was under the impression that in theory these 2 types wouldn't be compatible, though my bf and I work extremely well together, maybe too well, as we barely ever fight, our focus on open and efficient communication makes us work out any issues very quickly. What helps a lot is that we've both worked on ourselves enough to be quite outgoing in social situations. So I totally agree with you. If both people are striving to better themselves this can be a very fulfilling relationship.

    I'm glad you brought up the INTJ. INFPs and INTJs have a special and wonderful connection along with great chemistry that seems to go un-discussed formally online but it abounds in INFP and INTJ romantic relationships and in forum discussions! I myself, an INTJ was married to an INFP (it was a good relationship - and we are still friends) and I have been with a second INFP for 7 years now, very happily.

    • @peregrination3643
      @peregrination3643 Před 5 lety +4

      I noticed that about forums, too. It seems that INTJs tend to be most attracted to N-doms, but also seemingly almost as often break up with N-doms. INFPs were brought up less, but proportionately had a lot less discussion on breakups and more discussion on long term successes.

      Married for over 20 years to an INTJ. We balance each other nicely. He is the love of my life. He always is respectful to me, and as long as I can focus on believing he loves me, then I can look at his actions in the proper way.
      It was the most important thing I learned was to veiw our relationship through the lens of love even when there is conflict.

    • @bunny_0288
      @bunny_0288 Před 3 lety +5

      @@carrikartes1403 YES! This was a game changer for my INTJ husband and I as well. Always assume the best of your partner instead of the worst. Assume that they didn't mean to hurt your feelings and then ask them to clarify what they meant. What I've learned is it's ALWAYS a miscommunication/misunderstanding. Assume they are a little bit snippy because they are tired/hungry/stressed and not that they are angry with you. I know as an INFP, I'm overly sensitive, so this change in mindset has made such a difference. Instead of reacting emotionally, I pause and say in a calm and neutral tone, "Hey that comment hurt my feelings a little bit. What did you mean by that exactly?" This de-escalates everything and allows us to talk about the conflict and resolve it without anyone getting defensive or upset.

  • @jenchapple89

    I believe that we have the ability to match with pretty much any type so long as there is reciprocated respect, understanding, and shared values. I recently broke up with my ENTP boyfriend because we had several big value clashes. What we both DID have was respect for each other and we could encourage one another in our strengths.
    On the other hand, he could be so harsh and tactless with the way he spoke, which made him seem insensitive. He didn’t like giving to the panhandlers (I always feel terrible if I don’t) and this bothered me, yet his reasoning was very logical and yes, it did make sense. Cold logic is something I’m not so good at handling; my brain doesn’t work that way!
    Then again, I admired him so much for his ability to work hard and hit his major goals and for his leadership skills. He constantly encouraged me to break away from my comfort zone and told me I “don’t have to hide” from the world.
    I wish we could have worked out, but there were too many differences. We balanced each other out in many ways, but we clashed in many ways - too many ways - as well.
    I’ve noticed that I tend to break fairly easily from relationships because I’ve always been kind of a lone wolf. I don’t *need* to be in a relationship to feel fulfilled. I enjoy my own company quite a bit. Sometimes maybe too much.
    I fantasize wayyy too much about what my next partner will be like as well. In fact, I fantasized even while I was still together with my ex. I know this is unrealistic, but I can’t help it.
    Anyway... this was a very long response and I didn’t mean for it to go in so many directions! But I think INFPs have the ability to be in a relationship even with their opposites because of this innate ability to understand people, or at least to want (and attempt) to understand people. There is so much beauty in different ways of thinking and seeing the world. Everyone has something good to offer!

    I'm INFP 495, but from an emotionally neglectful home and for a long time thought I was an INTJ. As I've come to understand my upbringing and how it's affected my adulthood and maybe why all my friends have been FPs, I wouldn't be surprised I'd feel best with a fellow F type. Ultimately, probably an N type with good emotional intelligence. I haven't known many Ns (most in my family and their friends are ST), so probably an N understanding would be just as fulfilling. I have noticed though that I can be around someone more assertive and I'll become more assertive (which is otherwise hard to maintain).

    Im INFP struggling with my ISFJ love interest. Its at the point where I think its better to not share anything meaningful about myself because he will only interpret it as me trying to come off as special or as a victim, when really Im trying to share my hopes, dreams, fears, insights. Ive come to realize we are speaking very different languages even when having what should be a straightforward conversation, nevermind the deeper soulful kinds of talks (those end in tears for me because of how he interprets what Im saying and because of how I interpret his reactions as rejections. I run in proverbial circles trying to find new ways to communicate my inner world to him). Its exhausting and kind of heartbreaking to realize that no matter what you do, some people's minds will never be able to gel with yours, regardless of how much love is present.

  • @katherandefy
    @katherandefy Před 5 lety +4

    I think a whole lot depends on childhood questions that a person (of whatever type) has that they still want answers to. If the people going into a relationship have central or a lot of small seemingly unrelated unresolved matters, then this will often likely cause disruptions in the relationship. That is what I have seen happen in my own life and that of many others.
    And then what people are acclimated to (whether they are comfortable with that acclimation or whether it is posing a discomfort, either way) could create an odd mismatch even between types who ordinarily might get along very well. And this is because at least one person in the relationship has assimilated norms that are not normal for their type. Like me: I was raised by two TJs (ENTJ and ISTJ). So while there are some uncomfy things about TJ still, I have honed some skills for communicating well with TJs. I don't require a TJ but for me it would not be a bad idea, however since I am so introverted an INFP, and since I married an ESFJ which (for a bunch of different reasons) turned out badly (not least because I did not have the FJ lingo down) I have a pretty good idea that probably the biggest differences for us were Fe/Fi and right next to that difference came the E/I difference, which for some INFPs would not be such a big leap as it was for me to match an almost totally 100% E mate. On top of that were other differences. And this turned out to be too different. And having similar backgrounds (very very similar!) did not help. Even our similarities resulted in such different outcomes and responses, both positive and negative.
    I do think that INFPs need to develop their selfhood a lot longer than many other types since as a whole we are a type that is less realistic and more in need of experience than a lot of other types. That's the one thing that I think would help most INFPs to be ready for relationships. Not necessarily diving into sexual relationships (maybe) but relating to all kinds of other people and understanding who others really are instead of relying on our fantastic ability to imagine what others are like. Which we are soooo good at!

      I am an INFJ married to an INFP. I think INFJ may come off at times as a little closed and judgmental to an INFP. If an INFP really loves an INFJ, they will take the time to let you lower your walls to let them in. INFPs are also very attentive and notice if the INFJ is stressed and will jump in to help. The problem may occur when the INFJ or INFP is depressed. Both are sensitive to what the other is feeling which can lead to both of you being depressed. This is a sticky situation.

      Just because I had a bad experience with one ha. It’s probably okay for you to date one as long as you make sure you’re going to be them for the rest of your life before you let them use the label girlfriend or boyfriend on you. I was in a two month relationship with one and I tried breaking up with him which he didn’t let happen right away even though I had distanced myself the first 4 weeks in. I had to not kiss him back the next time I saw him so he would be forced to break up with me. Even then he apologized to me and said he didn’t want to break up. After breaking up he got angry at me and said he did everything for me (things I never asked for-he’s an enneagram 2) and he said he used to love me but I broke that and I was like okay you loved me after a two month relationship? Didn’t seem authentic to me which I couldn’t stand. We got into a relationship after only a week of knowing each other and dating because he asked me and I had been single for 3 years so I made a mistake. He was gunny and a nice person but I realized I didn’t like him romantically

He was so emotionally immature even though he’s 39 and he kept saying he didn’t love me anymore but would try to act like we were still in a relationship when we were supposed to just be friends. I wouldn’t have stayed friends with an ex right after but he was the most persistent person in the world and can talk people into anything. I kept saying okay but we’re just friends and he would say I know I’m over you but I knew there were always going to be expectations of us getting back together and there were. I didn’t want him saying I was stringing him along (and he said I wasn’t) so I stopped talking to him. The last time I talked to him in person I said it seems like you still like me and I don’t want to get your hopes up and he said I don’t like you like that and then proceeded to say that he thinks I still have feelings for him because of the way I look at him. Wth I’m an INFP 9 of course I make everyone feel special but it doesn’t mean I want to be in a relationship with just anyone. He also said he was hoping to eventually turn hanging out into dating and this was in the same conversation in which he said he didn’t have feelings for me...I think he’s just an ENFP with issues

      H I I would probably get along with NTPs, I haven’t met that many....also i found out Im an assertive INFP so maybe that could be why I’m incompatible with certain types m

      😊The ideal “golden pair” for an INFP is ENFJ with INFJ being the second-best match. The following are the most to least compatible types for INFP:
      ENFJ- The Harmonious Leader
      INFJ- The Empathetic Guru
      INTJ- The Visionary Strategist
      ENTJ- The Rational Boss
      ESTP- The Realistic Alpha
      ISTP- The Tactical Rebel
      ENFP- The Imaginative Explorer
      INFP- The Introspective Soul
      ESFP- The Dynamic Star
      ISFP- The Artistic Free Spirit
      ENTP- The Curious Inventor
      INTP- The Logical Theorist
      ESFJ- The Supportive Ally
      ISFJ- The Unbreakable Loyalist
      ISTJ- The Diligent Investigator
      ESTJ- The Head Honcho

      @@ginamichelle4466 Isfp and Intp should be above Esfp. I've clashed with every Esfp I've met. Usually it's them thinking introversion is a mental illness.

      ISTP is fine, it works well especially if you're a more physically active and sports-involved INFP, if you enjoy being outdoors, etc etc. ISTPs can help keep you active and alert and can get you out of your own head once in a while. Dating an ISTP also suggests you need a lot of control and balance in your life, and ISTPs can really provide that person you can lean on when you need. Just trust your own feelings on this stuff. Focus on what you can give each others and what you like about each others. The six I mentioned are just the most common options I see.

      I am also an info female with a ist male. We are engaged and are doing very well. For the most part we understand each other and when we do not are willing to find out what to do to succeed in our relationship. He is also a Virgo and I am an Aqua. Opposites attract. Loving the ride.

      I think it really comes down to what you want as an infp. I know quite some infps and the socially less skilled or more passive ones love enfjs or entjs cause it gives them that component, the more confident ones will go for infj or intj for the intellectual deepness and then some love istp or estp probably for not comprehending them ever (absolute opposite attracts)
      Outside of that I don‘t think it‘s a classic combo
