tom Holland as Juliet makes sense
Still a better love story than twilight.
LMAO
...actually, oddly, that makes this whole thing work for me.
Makes more sense, definitely.
Tom Holland would be a hotter Juliet
Nick Fury was originally white in the comics, but since Samuel L. Jackson is a great actor, absolutely nobody cared. That should proof Asmons point.
"Asmond"
@@CanYouResistClick1ng thx for reminding me. Hopefully one day i can remember to get it right
Yeah but Samuel L. Jackson could play anyone. "The truth is... I am Iron Man motha fucka" "I understood that reference motha fucka" "That's my secret, I'm always angry motha fucka"
and the thing is Sam was such a great portrayal of Nick Fury that now everyone associates him with Sam and not the original. Race swapping inherently isnt the issue, its that they are race swapping to fill a quota and pander to a group of people that do not deserve respect.
The reason race issues are becoming mrore and more of a thing nowadays is because the people in control of media are CONSTANTLY pushing it to the forefront and getting everybody angry at eachother.
Can't believe people have already forgotten the leak of that Blizzard diagram for Overwatch where they measured the value of a character based on how many "minority points" they have, that's all these types of clowns care about
The producers chose this girl for two reasons, because of her skin and because the controversy would create publicity. They are the villains who take advantage of her.
Maybe the photo is not doing her justice but then the promotion should try make her as attractive a tom
when will they learn that this type of publicity wont do them any good anymore. it will just bomb hard. if they casted Zendaya no one would bat an eye and it could be cool adaptation
Did the producers tell you this personally?
They did this in Sweden long ago. When we had the Lucia celebration a few years back the NEWS REPORTER actually asked if they had some "diverse" that could act as Lucia, which is traditionally with a blond girl. And they say that media is supposed to be unbiased...
@@davidlauderdale7147 yes, they usually talk about it. It's called "Affirmative Action".
These companies honestly do not know the actual difference between healthy diversity and downright pandering.
They only know who owns them.
"Healthy diversity" is not banging anyone more closely related to you than your 3rd pr 4th cousin, not artificially creating multi-cultural hell holes.
They know exactly what they are doing. Here Asmond fans are getting marketing material for a stage show they would never have ever heard about otherwise.
@@TravisHi_YTThats literally never worked before . Rings of Power , Star Wars , you name it .

...by an acceptable modern western woman. They are fat, ugly or fat and ugly.
Now that would have been progressive! Wasted opportunity.
For a minute I honestly thought the same thing.
Romeo and Julian 😂
Two italian love birds in 1500s btw. "1500s". "Italian"
It's about white ersaure. Replacing all our iconic white characters. No other race would put up with this.
Same with the Little Mermaid remake that takes place in like 1700s Denmark (during a time when Slavery was still a thing in Denmark btw.)
I mean this could be anything though. Could be set in the modern day like the DiCaprio movie for all we know.
@@maharaja101 No Family in modern day would behave like the 2 families in Romeo and Juliet tho

Naah, this juliet's already got a plague
So the two families feuding with each other will now be performing hate crimes against each other. Neat.
I guess it will be story about one family opressing the other (after all, picturing Black people in something that can be interpreted as a gangs war isn't very nice idea). I also really hope that Romeo is not Jewish in this version. 😅
No, not against each other, Romeo's family will be the unbearably rich white family, who only cares about money and making people pay more and suffer, and are the root cause for most of the plays in universe problems.
Juliette's family will have been insulted and stripped of everything, but are blameless for most of the play, and the things they are blamed for, will be pretty forgettable and irrelevant to the plot.
Finally, They'll fall in love, take down Romeo's corrupt, very racist family, and put Juliette's family in their place, giving a not so subtle message of "racism bad, money bad. Eat rich, but give me money. Money good if me with money."
@@XenobiologistB5 It's not a movie, it's just a play. They are doing a stage production of it.

😂😂
This not Romeo and Juliet this Broke back Mountain 2
Quite positive Romeo and Juliet is written by Shakespear which involves two white people falling in love. However it is okay in our society to replace Juliet, or depict Juliet as black. However if the story was written by Martin Luther King and the story was about two black people called Kanye West and Beyonce and Beyonce was depicted by the white actress Angelina Jolie it would 500% be racist. Why the double standard? Why is it okay to be "inclusive" from white to black, but not from black to white?
I think you know your own answer to that. It involves "mark's ists" and the eventual rewriting of history.
Because blacks can and will complain about everything u til they get their way
@@danielmiller5611the answer is what is there only black and white? Are people forgetting that Asians and other races exists?
Quite positive Angelina Jolie played Marianne Pearl in A Mighty Heart. The double-standard exists, of course, but don't confuse theatre with recent Hollywood wokeness. Black Shakespeare actors has been a thing since the 19th century - it's just not a big deal. And yes, it involves two white people, but that in itself isn't a relevant part of the story. They are also Italian teenagers, but where are allt he complaints about Tom Holland being neither of those things?

If race doesn't matter, why swap? If it does matter, why does it seem to only happen one way?
People lie. Propagandists lie all the time, almost every word is a lie.
What do you mean one way? It matters any time a movie takes place in a certain time and place no matter the races involved. Say you're making a movie about the enslavement of blacks in the United States and casted Asian people to play the slaves. It wouldn't make any logical sense. Another example would be making a movie about Genghis Khan and hiring a bunch of Mexicans to act as the Mongols, it wouldn't make a lick of sense.

Yup 😅😭
ah for fucks sake. this just breeds more racism unironically.
That's the point. Why do you think they can't stop racializing everything?
It seems very intentional to me. Keep the western world divided and we can't unite against the tyranny right under our noses. It's unfortunate.
It’s all part of the plan goy
they don't call them 'race baiters' for naught.
Reactionaries will always make problems out of nothing. Bending to their will is more racist than putting a black person in a movie
they had to absolutely make sure people understood why the families don't want romeo to be with juliet lmao
Exactly. Tom as Juliet is a catch!
I would 100% watch this is Tom Holland was replaced with Danny DeVito
This isn't even the first time there has been a "Romeo & Juliet but RACES" type of thing. That's one of the oldest and most tired tried out tropes in all play casting. It's basically "My idea is UNIQUE and ORIGINAL" 101.
Not even just plays either. I bet there are a hundred different films with a Romeo and Juliet trope between any number of races.
Yeah but this time they picked an ugly Juliet for extra sympathy points.
Literally West Side Story.... literally.
Also, Romeo must Die (Jet Li and Aaliyah) already done this before, nobody on both sides making fuss about it
A trope? You know, there's a very real possibility that the actress got the role because of her acting talent. Automatically assuming she got the role because of her race, instead of irrespective of it, is.......disconcerting
And to no one's surprise, they'll "reimagine" Juliet as a strong independent woman who doesn't need Romeo. It'll also have some peak millennial humor and Romeo will be the butt of every joke (kinda like Ken).
Well, if it goes as well as it did with Ken, Juliet and all her "subversions" will be completely overshadowed, deeply offending the activists targetted by the movie.
If it's like you say, why did they cast a dude to play juliet?
No, it’ll probably be a straight adaptation of the play. Also Shakespeares plays are constantly reimagined into different times and cultures so this point doesn’t make any sense.
they already did that in a Play in Australia called "And Juliet"
I guarantee you Juliet will get mad at Romeo for being a toxic male and it'll end with her saving him or some shit.
It took me a few seconds to realise Francesca imnottypingthat was a girl, thought maybe it was a gay recreation of R&J 😭
The backlash is so dumb and narrowminded. It's a Shakespearean play about universal ideas and values, they have been done in a million ways already. They don't have to be taken literally. Okay, Francesca is not a classical beauty (Tom Holland is also hardly the most handsome actor). So what? The fact that Romeo & Juliet were attractive is the least important thing in the play. The text and the ideas behind it can be interpreted differently by every director.
I have a bit more of a problem with a 30 year old playing an 17 year old unless both characters are nearing middle age.
Peter Parker and Miles Morales
To be fair, everyone thinking they shouldn't be together is fitting for the story.
Good point!
😂
Smart
Ohno, I'm glad Tom has that thing. 😂
That's Romeo and Jules.
I feel like that's actually more racist, it's like saying a black character is only good if it used to be white 😂
It's also the producers thinking that people won't understand a story unless they see someone "like them" in it.
I mean, yeah, all of the DEI and affirmative action bullshit is extremely racist.
Thats all the left does nowadays.
Extremely racist things while trying to put it under the guise of "anti-racism" lmao
@@keystrix3704 It also shows how ignorant you are thinking that she is the first black woman to play juliet or even less the first non white to play juliet . This play is getting done hundreds of times all over the world every year .
@@ModjoConCarne Oh we are aware. But we are also aware that nowadays "racial diversity" is shoehorned everywhere, and when I say racial diversity I specifically mean "african american" or just simply african. And even the same facial structure and everything.
The difference between what you are referring to and what this is about is that one likely went like this "let's get two actors to play these roles" versus "Let's get two actors, one big name and one black"
@@ModjoConCarne _"It also shows how ignorant you are thinking that she is the first black woman to play juliet"_

First off, I know she isn't the first. Second, you just pulled that entire argument out of your backdoor. You're not Xavier. You're not reading any minds here.
This is the equivalent of going up to someone and saying "you mad, bruh?" over and over again and not stopping until you get a reaction, then declaring yourself to have been correct all along.
Pretty much the CRT/DEI crew in a nutshell. That's why they harp on 1/6 so very much. 😂
Perfectly described those things. 😂
The thing is, it doesn't make you racist to state that she's not the proper race for the role. Juliet is not a black girl, therefore casting a black person to portray her it's racist, but not by the people complaining, but by them who casted her. Racism towards white girls, pretty much. People who complain about this have all the right to be mad about these people misrepresenting Shakespeare's work. Whoever thinks it's right to change someone else's work to fit their own agenda, well ... Those are the true bigots.
you clearly don't watch theatre... casting is about the talent of the person performing the role.. not about looks

yeah this seems massively overblown. Shakespeare plays never cared about who played who. also people acting like a black person and a white person can't possibly be cousins is pretty fucking racist.
also its called Romeo must die and not Romeo and Juliet, indicating its a variation on the story. Also people are extremely sensitive to any race swap in this age while back in the 90s everyone was chill because no one was shoving it down peoples throats like you said

Also lastly, if you feel so strongly that she isn't attractive, please elaborate on why a 13-year-old in a story needs to be attractive?

@@ipostyouwatch (s)he is still a 2/10 in those other pics.
@@Quasar-fv8toIt's fine to consider her unattractive but do you really have to call her a man? I feel like you're just taking your insecurities out on her at this point. Show some respect man.
My immediate assumption is that Zendaya would’ve been more expensive to cast. Just speculating though, this is my first time hearing that this movie even exist.
But yeah Tom and Zendaya would’ve been perfect.
Zendaya is expensive but like her role in dune was under 1million dollars
it's not a movie.. it's a play in London
Still waiting for the white martin luther king movie to come out.
1. Make BAD casting decisions
2. Attack your audience
3. Flops
Haven't they learned with so many movies in recent memory? 🤦
This sort of decision-making has been absolutely plaguing so many forms of entertainment lately. Like, I'm personally fine with inclusiveness in media and all that, but when it gets to THIS level....it goes from wanting to be inclusive to just flat-out artless pandering. And gets even worse when the ones who make said decisions lash out at their detractors despite their legitimate concerns and complaints about the absolutely plummeting quality of the product.
it's a humiliation/demoralisation campaign. (((they))) are happy to waste a few bucks as long as they can laugh and shout down White people online who complain about the replacement.
It's so true, I can barely name a few woke movies that are decent enough to be watched.
This is why people are slowly moving to anime, movies and tv series from Asia, i just watch a couple of animes each season and mostly just rewatch all the good movies and tv series before hollywood went to shit. But the main thing i enjoy these days is Korean Manhwa (manga), its truly something special, and whats even better, Japan and Korea really hate " politically correct" and stuff like that, so thats a huge bonus.
In the past 5 years i think i watched 6 new movies and no new tv series, thats just how badly everything seems to me.
DEI money too good. It's drying up quick though, so hopefully in a few more years we'll get normal stuff again.
I'd unironically watch Danny DeVito do this like an Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill scenario. He's both Romeo and Juliet.
Bro whys this juliet look like rick james
Shakespeare has been adapted perhaps thousands of times. Other than Othello and some of the historical plays race is utterly irrelevant, people of colour have had major Shakespeare roles for nearly a century now
She's not ugly. She's challenging beauty standards.
A face only a mother could love?
@@takemeseriouslyplx2124stop quoting on the face of it 🫥
aint nobody gonna tell me how i like women fk off
i was wondering why they casted 2 males for romeo and juliet
turns out thats a female
i think that if you can't tell that someone is a female on a first impression, that is not challenging beauty standards
beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I mean she not really my type, but there are people who actually find her attractive. so technically in a way Challenging the beauty standards is exactly what she is doing. just because she is unconventional looking does not mean she should not have a opportunity to shoot her shot.
Im still waiting for the Othello starring Lizzo. Lizthello.
Don't encourage them, dude.
Nah I was thinking HAMlett
She could play 3 Musketeers by herself.
Brah the outrage on this is so fake. Romeo and Juliet has adapted fucking 1000's of times with different looking people.
zendaya and tomholand together probably cost a fortune to hire so they went with the budget option
For a second I legit thought they casted two dudes 😂 ooooh boy
zendaya is a unrealistic character
Explain?
It's a Stellar Blade reference. People are complaining that the main character is too pretty and not a realistic representation of women, even though she's literally modeled after a South Korean woman.
@@DeathBean89 ohh i get it, thankyou 👍

Denzel Washington played Macbeth and he (and the movie) was fantastic. Dev Patel played Gawain in the Green Knight and he (and the movie) was fantastic. It's pretty apparent that for the majority of people the problem isn't with the race of the actor or actress, it's the very obvious "these casting decisions prioritize a political agenda" that's the problem.
what political agenda it prioritizes?
And can you explain Denzel Washington wasn’t cast because of an “agenda” or why Dev Patel wasn’t cast because of an “agenda”. Kinda seems like your just trying to make excuses for your racist take here.
@@sonofpears4691 How is my take racist? If I'm racist I would also not like the two examples I brought up. But I do. I found the casting to be well suited and the actors did a fantastic job. They looked like a King and a knight. The aesthetic matched fantastically, that's why no one made an issue over the casting. That's the point I'm making. Sure, people have a knee-jerk reaction to casting choices if something doesn't look right to them, but I'd be hesitant to call it racist, particularly because these counter examples exist.
When people shit on a casting choice they aren't always doing it because of the identity of the actor. That's the point I'm making here.
I feel that sometimes certain acting decisions are made primarily for some kind of political statement (namely for the pursuit of diversity). But that is deeply insulting and patronizing (in addition to potentially damaging the quality of a work). This problem is perhaps most relevant in writing quality (speaking generally here, not about Romeo and Juliet). And in fact in the pursuit of elevating minorities, the overcorrection by society ends up contributing to a new contrived form of racism, one that is identified by tokenism. American Fiction is a great movie (based on Erasure by Percival Everett, an African American author) that satirizes and examines this dichotomy.
The one thing you can accuse me of here is a too hasty judgement. That would be fair.
@@meciocio…Do you really have to ask that question…?
@@LifeForAiur my point is that you assumed that she was cast purely on the basis of diversity. You never concidered the idea that maybe she was cast because she was the best person for the role and not because of some diversity quota. I don’t believe that question would have ever arisen if it were a white woman in the role instead of a black woman, you would have assumed that she was the best person for the job and yet as soon as a black person comes in it suddenly becomes about diversity as if you can’t believe that she could possibly be the best pick for the job since she’s black. My point is that your assumption that her getting the role purely because of diversity rather than actual talent is actually deeply racist.
