    Great build! I got an OVRLND for my Gladiator and love it. It's been great in all 4-seasons and for still hauling stuff. Makes my tiny truck bed spacious to sit out the storms.

      Total game changer in weather. We used to just pretzel up in the RTT, play some cards and wait it out. Now it's comfortable, easy access to the beverages, food and can scope out what the next upgrade needs to be inside lol.

    seeing this vid gets me so stoked on this camper. i've been looking at a bunch but have been leaning toward the ovrlnd and after watching this, i really think this is the coolest option for me, the girlfriend and the doggo. i do solar and electric work so i want to build some drawers on the inside and use the camper as a utility shell, but also be ready to go on a trip at any point :). Really cool seeing the extended bed height as well and i love seeing how nice and low-pro you got yours to the roof; i feel like its so corny seeing those huge air gaps between truck roofs and some of the campers

      I don't think you'll be at all disappointed With the OVRLND Camper. It's been a great upgrade for us and all we need to throw at it is some food, water and clothes and we're on the road. Glad to hear you found the info useful!

    @RoamBearded Nice video! I like your ceiling finish a lot. Just back from a trip in the July 2023 southern heat wave and my exposed roof framing was too hot to touch so I am investigating additional roof insulation in my OVRLND. Good point on the latches. Ask ME how I know. I was happy that the pop-up roof is attached better than I thought. Enjoy the journey.

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem

      Haha, yeah 12 miles at 65-70 MPH popped the top up and no damage done, quite impressive.
      I know how hot that roof can get in the Utah sun, that aluminum will get hot fast, we're pretty happy with the barrier.

    That was a great video, and helpful. So far, do you still like it? If you had to get another pop up camper tomorrow, would you get the Ovrlnd again? You gave us great advice - the extra height over the bed, the barn doors, windows for good vision out. That kind of knowledge based on your experience is valuable. Thank you! What additions or modifications have you made to make it suit your camping style better? (More Ovrlnd videos coming?)

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem +3

      Appreciate the kind words Mike! We would absolutely get another Ovrlnd Camper if we were to need one, solid quality, roomy and easy to customize to our liking. We've really kept the build simple and utilitarian but functional for our style. Yeah more videos to come to cover how we've made it work for us, so stay tuned!

  • @TradesmanOutdoorAdventures

    Congrats on the new purchase! It’s not at all cold where I live (northern Virginia), and so I was debating whether to insulate my topper (a Snap Outfitters Treehouse). Do you think It’s worth it, and do you plan to get a liner for the vinyl portion?

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem +4

      Currently there's no plans on insulating the vinyl. I do believe the insulation will help with the heat as well, especially the roof, it gets pretty hot to the touch in the sun. I would recommend taking the time to insulate it, not sure about the Snap (looks like a well designed camper) but it was really easy to pop the foam board in walls.

  • @begattvideo
    @begattvideo Před rokem +1

    Love the barn doors. Thanks for the video walk around. What is the opening clearance from the deck to the barn door head? I have a RAM 3500 8’ bed and am wondering what I can fit in the opening while still using the truck as a truck. Will the tailgate and lift gate have higher clearance or about the same as barn doors?

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem

      Yeah we love having the barn doors! The clearance is 45" and that would stay the same if you retain the tailgate and get the half barn doors. For instance if I were to remove the lower section of the doors I could replace my tailgate and have the half barn doors.

  • @philip8788

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem +2

      Thanks Philip! The ceiling is just covered in a reflective foam core insulate. I ran velcro along all of the roof bracing to attach it for easy access in case I needed to get above it.

    Can you do a recap of your insulation?

  • @USMC-1833
    @USMC-1833 Před rokem +1

    I'm a little late to the party here but those Barn doors are great. I thought they were only doing the half barn doors. Taking out the tailgate for full barn doors does make it a lot easier to get in and out. Question though, how do the barn doors perform with rain or dust? And have they lost any alignment? Your reason for the north window was very thoughtful. I was thinking you had to put some type of awning windows on the sides or barn doors for air circulation during inclement weather. Was even thinking along the lines of Tern Arctic or dometic windows which, in my opinion, are too pricey for that type of Topper. Almost forgot, are the Barn doors removable? Great Video and nice clean set-up. Cheers!

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem

      We have not had any issues with dust or water intrusion with the barn doors, a pressure washer will let a little water in though. I haven't looked close enough to see if they can be removed, the bottom portion could be removed and replaced with the tailgate if you wanted. They are still straight and as solidly built as it is I don't think they'll lose shape at all. We thought we might miss the tailgate but we're happy with our choice.

    Can you please tell me if you need to stack the 2 bed platforms to close the top or can you leave them in sleep mode? I ask because it seems like you could fit way more bedding with the platforms unstacked bit I'm not sure of you can work the front lift mechanism to pop it up. thanks

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před 7 měsíci

      We do travel with the bed out, for the exact reason you've mentioned, we have a lot of bedding. Then when we get to camp we'll stack it to give us the full space. It can be slightly awkward to open and close the front while laying on the bed but it's not difficult once you do it a few times.

  • @JeffCanyon
    @JeffCanyon Před rokem +1

    Just one more question... I see you insulated the ceiling, you most likely used 1" block foam and you then covered the entire ceiling with silver faced bubble wrap. How did you secure the bubble wrap to the ceiling? Is the bubble wrap staying secured to the ceiling? Thanks Jeff

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem

      I actually skipped the foam block with the understanding that the reflective properties can provide more 'insulating' value by having the air gap. For mounting it I ran Velcro along all of the roof beams.

  • @JeffCanyon
    @JeffCanyon Před rokem +2

    Nice camper…. I noticed you installed outdoor carpet on your side walls. I take it you insulated with block foam first, how did you secure the carpeting to the walls? Thanks Jeff

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Jeff! Yeah I did 1" insulation inside the walls, 3/8" plywood and just used the carpet glue from the Home Depot to secure it.

  • @brentp556
    @brentp556 Před rokem +1

    How do you find the split mattress setup? I'm a little concerned about the gap between the mattresses being uncomfortable. Are there any options you would change if your were buying again such as side hatches?

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem +1

      We don't even notice the gap. We ordered the foam and made the covers for them so they don't have any piping or any obstruction that could be uncomfortable.
      For our style of camping I don't see the benefit of hatches, side windows etc. We like using the interior walls for storage. I think if we were to do it again we'd probably stick to the same options we have. But it's all about having an understanding of how you want to make that space work for you and your style of camping.

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před 7 měsíci

      We would 100% get another one. We've had no issues with the canvas, in fact they use the same tarp material truckers use to cover loads, it's pretty robust.

  • @RAMtrails
    @RAMtrails Před 10 měsíci +1

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před 7 měsíci

      The wind is not nearly as bad as the rtt we came from. Yeah it's still going to be louder than a hard side but I think it's a good compromise.
      The steps are just a Little Giant step ladder that has the back removed. I just ratchet strap it to the bumper. It was the perfect size for a sturdy and safe way to get in and out.

    1. Did you look at any other pop up campers. If so what did you look at?
    2. I took your advice on the ICON springs and the Hellwig sway bar on my Ram, did you have to modify anything else for the camper?
    Thanks man!

    • @RoamBearded
      @RoamBearded  Před rokem +2

      1. I did look at the Hiatus (crazy long wait times at the time), the AT Overland Atlas, Project M, Snap Treehouse, Super Pacific - yeah I did some research lol... It really came down to the barn doors and straight walls, the rest just came together.
      2. Our suspension is the same but I did need to adjust the sway bar to its tightest setting (I was running it in the mid setting). All is feeling good now.

      We've had some nights down in the 20's F with and without the insulation. The insulation made a world of difference but considering it's still a pop-up there's a chill. We invested in a diesel heater so we can open up that camping season a little further, looking forward to putting it to the test.
      Haven't been in the snow but others haven't had any issues with the extra weight on a snowy trip.
