For those who see this and are in the market for a camper shell in the $6-10K range, there's a company in Winters, CA called Tradesman that will make any type of custom shell you want ... including pop-ups. They're also made of aluminum (framing and sides), but look much more finished and nicer. They just completed mine and I'm extremely happy with it. Hope you enjoy your camper!
I believe ovrlnd has a lot more and nicer looking finishing options. But this is the bare bones. I like that they offer the bare bones if you are looking to stretch your dollar as much as possible
I like this camper a lot better. I have the same tacoma and color. I seen it with and without the tailgate. I like it both ways. The question is what truck should I put it on. Tundra or tacoma. I would like to see a side view. Did your gas drop in miles?
You're definitely going to lose some mpg. I can't tell you how much because I did my tires and suspension at the same time, which also chews up a little mpg. It's super light, but you're gonna get some wind resistance.
I just put my order in and now I wait patiently 7-8 months. Please Please make more content. I can't find any build videos, unfortunately there are several owners but hardly anyone posting pics and video. Did it come with a mattress ?
with all the add ons, it comes to almost $15,000. Can someone tell me why I shouldnt consider a Kimbo or a Scout truck camper. thanks for helping me in making a purchasing decision.
A Kimbo is almost 1,000 lbs. But if your going to be spending alot of time in very cold weather the Kimbo is better suited for those conditions. Pop up campers are way lighter and have a lower center of gravity with the added bonus of much lower clearance. Check out the Go Fast Camper and Alu Cab for hotter weather overlanding/ camping.
I've seen a number of complaints with the Project M regarding dust intrusion. Much of that is probably a truck bed problem. Have you experienced dust intrusion particularly with those barn doors? If yes, what have you done to mitigate it? Thanks.
I haven't had dust issues. We weather stripped the bottom of the doors to snug up against the tail gate. The doors themselves shut right then left, so the left door can snug up against a lip that is weather stripped on the right door. Both door tops fit against another sealed lip on the camper itself. The bottom would be the only issue, but again, we just weather stripped it and it's all good! The dog getting in and out, on the other hand...
Dust Intrusion .... really .... maybe you should just stay in your apartment for the weekend ... its camping, you get dirty! ... oh btw , i like the camper 👍
I am almost positive it was this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B07YJWSK9N?pd_rd_i=B07YJWSK9N&pd_rd_w=0b6hM&pf_rd_p=ee186ce0-6bf7-4893-85b9-f3368b019e0f&pd_rd_wg=EFUtQ&pf_rd_r=J7WKAMZ249D6QTK1X30F&pd_rd_r=238150bd-4711-4ecf-b684-a5c2b021b5b7 My wife ordered it, so I am not 100%, but pretty positive. We sleep incredibly well!
Super cool with the windows open, surprisingly. We were in Zion in ~90 degree heat and a breeze was blowing the whole time. I mean, if you're in the Baja in July it's not going to matter what you're in, though.
Not for the camper. It's only 265 pounds. I'm sure another 150 or so with the wooden build. But that's just the equivalent of a handful of cinder blocks or a big person in the back.
We spent a week in Zion in 95 degree weather and it was fine, great even, with a breeze through all four windows and the open back. I wouldn't recommend parking in the direct sun, but that's truck camping 101.
I did get the extra inch on mine and it's worth it. That extra headroom, in the bed area or standing below with my build, is really nice. This is a version 1, they've added a few nice things to the base model since. I did my suspension and tires at the same time my camper went on, so I can't speak directly to the mpg hit, but with camper, 2.5" lift, and 285/75s I average 12.5 in my new 2021 Tacoma this is now on (my first gen frame cracked from rust a few months after I filmed this. Saddest day ever).
Great succinct video. Terrible audio Price would be nice but not giving a price is a common stunt. Wait. Plus 150 lbs for the wooden build? Now Im confused.
I'm sold on this camper. Thanks for doing the tour.
Ok, totally sold on this! I'm selling my 1992 Palomino and going this route. Love the light weight for loading and offload.
You had me at the shirt fella!!!!! Quality beer.
Right!? That's straight outta Thailand!
Man that just looks like it fix perfect in that truck. I’m jealous
Great overview. Seriously thinking about this camper.
Thank you! You won't be dissapointed!

Did you get a pop top? I've seen their stuff and although nice, I've yet to see them build an actual pop top. Only seen them do contractors caps
@@ElBrisho No, I got a cab-over. They were working on a pop-top when I picked up my camper. They can make anything.

Looks like permanently closed now.
Watched this vid and emailed the company already! Live in Florida but would love one of these for my new Tacoma!
Badass! You are gonna be so syked!
Great a camper shell!!!
Great overview!!!
So sick! Reminds me so much of my one
Awesome build man!! You could go into production with that unit. Quite impressed👍 Niclely done ✅ B Deacon Brandon Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
That's a really nice camper. Might be aiming twords that in the future
I highly recommend it!
Very cool setup.
Thank you!
Great review!!
Looks kinda like a refer top. Very utilitarian which can be cool if your trying to keep it stelth.
I was wondering what the measurement was from the bottom on the bed rail of the unit to the top in the closed position?
Nice !
Very nice

How tall is the inside
How much in total? No interior lights or wiring? Fans?
So.good 👍👍👍💗

What mattress did you use can you provide a link?

Wondering if it's still holding up well for you ? No issues ?
Still just bomber. I broke the truck in half (rust) and put it on my 2021 taco!
I may ask them to build me a NO overcab model. Like a Travel Lite Rayzr FB camper but, with a popup roof.
Thats awsome. Can I get one in Michigan?
I believe they ship, but it's worth your while to come pick it up, I believe!
What mattress is this? Looking at purchasing something similar. Thanks.

How much?
Nice work, but I would guess it gets pretty hot in the summer and pretty cold in the winter.
I mean, compared to a house.
@@naumatt or compared to a truck camper
cant help wondering what it would be like with that metal roof in the heat?
Super cool with the windows open, surprisingly. We were in Zion in ~90 degree heat and a breeze was blowing the whole time. I mean, if you're in the Baja in July it's not going to matter what you're in, though.
Ayeee. My kind of content. You going to do vogs in that?
Vogs?
I want to build something like this without a overhead bed, popup.
Do u have footage of the build ?
Cost and where you got your materials from ? Very well built would like to know more of a break down step by step
These are made by a company, hit the link.
bro, let's go camping sometime and drink beer
Sounds rad. Wanna be in each other's weddings?
@@naumatt that sounds amazing, bruh.
Can you not stand up in there? Is that because of your drawer system?
Exactly. I have a little walkway built I can fully stand in. I think it's about 6'5".
You could put "Ralph's food delivery" on the side and no one would know any better.
Did you upgrade your suspension at all?
Not for the camper. It's only 265 pounds. I'm sure another 150 or so with the wooden build. But that's just the equivalent of a handful of cinder blocks or a big person in the back.
@@naumatt Awesome thanks. Also do you know how wide the bedding area is? Trying to figure out if my existing tri-fold will fit.
@@fortbragg86 it's a proper queen!
I started sweating just looking at that bare metal roof.

Hey how's this holding up? How big of a mpg hit did you take from adding the shell? Did you get the extra tall version? V1 ?
I did get the extra inch on mine and it's worth it. That extra headroom, in the bed area or standing below with my build, is really nice. This is a version 1, they've added a few nice things to the base model since. Sound is low.
Right!? Who's in charge of this operation!?
Nice build, byt would be a better video if the sound was better.
This I cannot deny. Apologies!
👍👍응원합니다 👍👍🇰🇷
Huh?
Good toy to exercise for young enthusiasts before they grew wise and lazy.
Looks pretty awkward to me.
It isn't!
Great succinct video. Terrible audio Price would be nice but not giving a price is a common stunt. Wait. Plus 150 lbs for the wooden build? Now Im confused.
Their website is in the description. You can go check their prices for your truck there!
dude...get a collar mic !
Right!? Who's running this dog and pony show?
Too bad you can’t stand up in it
It depends on the build. I can't stand on my drawers, but in my old truck it's 6'5 to the bed, in my new taco I think it's 6'8.
