Honestly, Cassidy still having the mental scars of the whole ordeal makes sense. Even after something terrible like that has come and gone, the hurt that lingers in the mind remain with you for a long time, if not forever.
He also appeared in the games as well.

Domestic violence, abusing former partners, and murdering partners and former partners are serious problems. Some react by saying that such treatment is acceptable to victims since they probably did something to deserve it. That's the excuse that batterers make.

I kinda wish that the show had the opportunity to piggyback off that with a follow-up episode where she so traumatized by fire, that an chemical accident ends up making her become an incarnation of Killer Frost or something like that
@@Gojiro7 Actually Rich Fogel pitched the idea that Cassidy ultimately lost her mind after the events of "Torch Song" and ends up becoming a Female Firefly but the show was over before it could even happen.
The idea that Pinky & The Brain is a cartoon inside the DCAU is quite amusing to me 😅

The Creeper has a line that’s a nod to Mindy & Buttons from Animaniacs.

I love how Barbara's joke implies Pinky And The Brain exists in this universe.
The evolution that Firefly had over the years, from being a silly Silver Age villain to a disturbed arsonist, was really great. In fact, the part of the "No Man's Land" arc in which Garfield Lynns, while escaping from Arkham, emotionally contemplates the huge fire that ravages Gotham is quite memorable. Sure Garfield and Nite Owl's ship, which can burn down a neighborhood with the push of a button, would get along PRETTY well
I only realised just how truly terrifying Firefly and his obsession with Cassidy was when I got older. I also love the addition of Cassidy having PTSD thanks to her experiences, it's an aspect that goes under represented in fiction
While that fireproof Bat suit was clearly just to sell toys, I still like the idea Bruce used that suit as a visual inspiration for the Beyond suit.

I really do like that they took the time to show that Firefly DID have an effect on Cassidy. She is *traumatised* by even the mere sight of fire and will probably have to spend the rest of her life worrying about him still being out there.
Like that little feeling of "Misery" at the end that while the threat is over, the mental scars may never heal. Lot of props for doing something like that. And impressive of Firefly, as not many villains make Bruce have to actually use something tougher than his usual suit, so he's in a particular league of heavyweight.
Kind of helps that a lot suggests even if Garfield was out of line, Cassidy wasn't innocent either and it's similar to what happened to Mockridge in Riddler's first appearance.
I was wondering if that was an intentional reference or coincidence at the end, what with the agent and waiter being there.
Gotta love just how many villains were reimagined in this show into something more dark and interesting. Back in the Silver Age, firefly was yet another silly gimmick villain who used a special belt to fire various light beams with different effects. Now he’s a pyromaniac with a burning lust for vengeance. It’s honestly pretty fun to compare and contrast various characters and how they’ve evolved over the years.
I believe he was already reinvented in the comics long before this episode.
I liked how Bruce was the old man in the concert. His fire proof suit was a nice Batman Beyond proto type.

Firefly is one of those villains that I know best from Arkham Origins. But his boss battle was really cool there. Especially when you have to face him on a bridge that he tried to blow up!
Did you also play Arkham Knight? Firefly's a boss fight in there, too. You chase him in the Batmobile after putting out fires he started, at Gotham City's Fire stations.

Firefly from The Batman 2004 was my first introduction to the villain. His design in that show was so sick!
Firefly also appears a few times in The Batman. I’d love to see Bat May style reviews of that series, as well as Batman Beyond and Justice League.

Some notes about the casting...
Mark Rolston (Firefly) has had several notable supporting tv and movie roles, including in Aliens, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Departed. He's also played several roles in DC projects, including Deathstroke in Batman: Arkham Origins and Lex Luthor in Young Justice.
Karla DeVito (Cassidy) is a talented actress and singer who has toured with Meat Loaf and later married Robbie Benson, the voice of the Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
Jane Wiedlin (Shannon) is also a singer and musician best known as the co-founder, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist of the Go-Go's. She's also the drummer and backup vocalist of the fictional rock band The Hex Girls from several Scooby-Doo projects.
DeVito being on Meatloaf's tour makes sense given how the song in this episode sounds like a meatloaf song not written by Jim Steinman.

The design of Firefly reminds me of THE ROCKETEER, right down to the mask design.
Firefly is one of those villains you just don't see enough of. He's never talked about, and hardly used in any media. I was actually pretty happy to see him as one of the villains in one of the Batman Arkham games.
It was cool seeing Batman use another suit. He would do this a lot in the 2004 series The Batman. Speaking of that series Firefly would have a bigger role as well.

Fire Fly wasnt really the biggest villian in the Rouges Gallery, but definately left quite the impression on his victims! Gotta watch out or you might get burned!
They had wanted to use Firefly back in Batman: The Animated Series, but when they presented the story idea to Fox, they asked, "where's Robin?" and when asked if they could just leave Robin out of one episode, the network passed on the idea. They really had a Robin kick toward the end of BTAS's run.
No, Fox was just clutching their pearls at the idea of an arsonist appearing on a kids show.

A female version of Firefly also appeared in several episodes of Gotham, she was created for the show but in 2018 she got adapted into comics.
Was looking for this. I actually liked Gotham, I thought it hit the sweet spot for the more Over the Top Batman cannon and the more Classic Style.
I really loved Firefly in The Batman 2004 series. That might be my favourite vesrion and design for the character. Would love if you ever talked about that show as well.

Firefly is one of my favorite character designs in this show. Scarecrow is, of course my favorite (probably one of my favorite character designs of all time) but Firefly is pretty high on the list.
What's interesting about Firefly is how he was brought back in The Batman and What's hilarious is how he was so unmemorable to others in the show that they only remembered him after he changed to the villain Inferno
Firefly should appear in the next The Batman movie. He can be a terrifying villain.

Batman re-purposing Freeze's tech on that particular suit would have been some great writing.
But I agree, perhaps he did. Maybe the smoke vs beam approach is 100% non lethal, but effective. That is why it is distinctly different. The comic writers would have addressed this, I'm SURE.
I know the yellow and black look is more iconic, but I can't help but love the sleek grey armor Firefly wears here. It's simple, but highly effective
I usually prefer when Firefly is just a demented guy who really likes burning stuff, that thinks that burning a building is his beautiful work of art and he needs to make Gotham pretty again flame by flame. But this version of the character looks really cool whith his suit and gadgets, probably the coolest one.

That one, and Mad Love", the episode where we finally hear Batman laugh. And it's TERRIFYING.
I'm surprised you didn't mention this little piece of information, Firefly was actually supposed to debut sometime in the first three seasons Batman: The Animated Series, but a tragedy prevented it from happening
Sometime in 1993 I think, some five-year-old boy said his trailer on fire and got his baby sister killed and it by accident, because his parents put the TV on Beavis and Butt-head for him to watch and he saw them burning stuff and wanted to imitate it
After that made some headlines, a lot of TV networks refuse to let fire be showing on any of their shows as a weapon, Fox was one of them, they said that Firefly couldn't be used in any episodes since he uses fire as a weapon, the when the show got new episodes on the WB Network, they weren't strict about it and said that Firefly can be used
Although the Rocketeer-like design that Firefly had in TNBA is pretty cool, it doesn't compare to the badass yellow uniform of "The Batman". In fact, the LEGO games depict Firefly in that uniform, being the only influence of "The Batman" in said franchise.
I'd say Croc having a Southern accent in Lego Batman 3 was another result of that show.
Definitely fits more with the name Firefly, since his jetpack evokes a firefly's light-up tail.

FUN FACT: Originally, they wanted to use Firefly in the original run of Batman: TAS. But it was rejected by the executives of Fox Kids because having an arsonist on one of their shows was a big no-no for their censors.
Also, the villain was done much better in The Batman and the Arkham games. For the former, he has a flashy suit (that inspired the Lego version's design), an actual arc, and a snarky personality by none other than James Marsden. And for the latter, well, I love the VA's performance. He's like Zazz, manically obsessed with burning things and causing mayhem. His bossfights were tedious, though.
How lucky Cassidy was when Batman refused to be her "private protector." Firefly would have been the least of her problems if Barbara had found out.

A rare miss by Banasiak not commenting of Firefly’s excellent voice acting.
His voice stood out in my mind as a kid and I remembered it long after I forgot who Firefly was.
There’s something so plain, yet so sinister about Mark Rolstons performance.

In hindsight maybe supremely ticking off the guy responsible for controlling all the dangerous fire right before the show, then letting said guy still do said work with him obviously now being extremely angry with the person on stage was a VERY poor call.
Kind of wish we got an episode where him and Mr. Freeze do battle with each other. Could've been fun.

That's Mark Rolston as Garfield Lynns/Firefly, he also played Lex Luthor on Young Justice, Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in Arkham Origins/Arkham Knight, and Norman Osborn in the 2018 Spider-Man video game. Firefly also made several appearances on The Batman tv series, where he was voiced by Jason Marsden.

This is the most SupermanTAS-looking episode so far, especially with Cassidy's design. Also, I look at Batman's flame suit and can't help but wonder if that became a toy. =P

5:48 - 5:52/ Something else I appreciated about that scene was a nice pop culture reference as the DJ was checking out the club. At one point, he gives a shout-out to a popular singer by the name of Sam Fryer. This was a great nod to 60's Soul singer Sam Cooke!❤
I love firefly, I’m glad they portrayed this villain on the show and on the Arkham games. Also I feel sad about Cassidy trauma at the end
The Fire proof suit is truly fantastic! It makes Batman look all the more imposing really! This is a fantastic episode. One of my favorites by far! I love The référence to Pinky and the brain. There’s some terrific fight scenes in this episode too. I’m glad you also referenced other appearances by Firefly.
2:35 I forgot Firefly appeared on "Arrow", but that's an indictment on how memorable the scripts of the Arrowverse shows as a whole are. And I think Firefly was also on GOTHAM, but as a girl. But I like these deep dives into comics lore. But if you think Firefly's Silver Age get up looked silly, look up the one for Deadshot.
I think the actual plan he had for burning Gotham down, was that both the victim and he would be assumed to be dead. Or at the very least make tracking them down very difficult.
I saw the comparison as a kid studying history of firefly with the Dacia kingdom in Romania. The romans campaigning in Dacia were forced to upgrade their armoir with arm greves and a helmet upgrade to prevent the flax sword from just cutting off arms and piercing through helmets. Batman here had to get a temporary suit update to fight firefly in a similar way. Both are footnotes, but had small impact on the foes facing them.
Firefly will always be one of my favorite Batman villains, and this version of him is one of my favorites, he’s scary, he’s entertaining, he’s pretty realistic, and Mark Rolstan does his creepy monotone voice perfectly. Thank you Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan for making a great villain, if I do recommend a few comic storylines for fans , i’d recommend the first two issues of Batman streets of Gotham, and the batgirl year one maxi series, it also has killer moth in it.

Its been a headcanon of mine that the augmented heat resistant suit was the early prototype for the Beyond Batsuit.
It makes sense that as Batman's toolkit grew and his foes became more and more varied that he'd run into a simple problem. The utility belt can only get so big.
Ergo the solution of having a suit that augmented his baseline well providing protection from common threats.
and the visual similarities are obvious.
Rich Fogel initially had planned on Cassidy being a genuine talent, but Bruce Timm decided to make her a bad singer after he became annoyed with a Britney Spears song on the radio.
Noting Cassidy's display of trauma at the end of the episode, Rich Fogel has stated that he wanted to springboard off of that to make her the second Firefly. An idea that ultimately didn't come to fruition due to the shows short production order
I felt bad for Cassidy at the end of the episode when it's clear that she's got PTSD from the ordeal.
Fun fact: the creators of BTAS wanted to use firefly in the original series but fox wasn’t down for arson characters
Ironically, this version of Firefly still feels too tame. So they still clearly had restrictions to deal with on another network.

I am constantly surprised by the number of Bat-villains who are much older than I ever knew. I had always thought that the only Golden Age (pre-1956) members of the Rogues Gallery who'd survived into the present day were Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Two-Face, Riddler, Mad Hatter, and Mr. Freeze (known as "Mr. Zero" until the mid-'60s). I've since learned that Clayface, Scarecrow, Dr. Hugo Strange, and now Firefly were also among that group. I didn't hear about so many of these old-timers until the '90s, partly because of the animated series and partly because of the "Knightfall" storyline, which introduced me to Bane and various other Batman characters. I realize now that comic book history is full of surprises.
Even then, BTAS Clayface is a mix of the first two Clayface; mainly based on the second person to use that title.
I thought the 2004 Batman was the only animated show where Firefly showed up as a villian. Interesting.
Shame that because of the Bat-embargo, we got no Ra's Al Ghoul, Scarecrow or Two-Face in Batman 2004. Sure, the first Clayface was BASICALLY a Two-Face, but still.

Firefly is Beavis's Hero! Haha. Joking aside. I like this episode. This was my introduction to Firefly. Weak origins, but he got better in later stories. I like both Batman and Firefly Suit. Kids WB allowed the team to bring firefly in the show but Fox said "No" so I bet the team went "FINALLY LETS BRING FIREFLY TO THE SHOW." I really wish Brendan Fraser did Firefly but at least he gave the performances of The Whale which was emotional.
