As an EU veteran since not long after EU2 came out, the maps are looking amazing.
And the feedback reminds me of some constructive threads on the paradox forum back in the day. Johan was open for insightful feedback back then too. Good to see EUV being developed this openly so the feedback can come early enough to truly matter in the development of the game.

I took a Christian Heresies course in college and can say quite confidently the Cathars are very real! The exact size of the movement is hard to know, but they had unique holy texts that still exist today (like the "Revelations of John," if I recall correctly which is basically an apocalyptic prophetic vision of falling up to heaven from Earth)

I want ALL the new locations. For me, I will take the infinite granularity. I would also love the ability to reclaim marshes and turn them into flatlands or farmlands. I understand that the engine might not be able to handle that, but if it’s possible I’d love that. I’m big into playing semi tall. Semi tall being I take a region, like Italy or Germany, and I culture convert that area, and religiously convert that area, and I develop only that area while I expand around the globe, usually colonially.

It's interesting to note that while Tinto is adding locations, they do not seem to really be adding more provinces (the next tier up in terms of administration) so must be that most of the calculations for pops/buildings etc are going to be done at the province level, so adding more locations is a lot of nice eye candy, but not going to have that much impact on how the game is played - Victoria 3 is similar where everything happens at the state level and the lower level locations are again mainly just eye candy and you can add lots more of them without creating huge lag problems.

When considering performance, it's helpful to establish at which level a logic entity (e.g. building, unit) exist, the maximum number of that type we are likely to have in the game, and how often a piece of game logic needs to run on them. Adding a province should not by itself cost performance; it's entities and their logic tied to that province that matters.
As an example, if we were to have buildings on the location level, and about half of all locations are expected to have buildings, and these buildings are to consume and produce goods once a week, then we can expect buildings to be a performance intensive feature. We could "fix" this by moving buildings to the province level so that there will be fewer of them, and we could run their logic less often or possibly make the logic partially reactive so that we only run certain game logic when e.g. the availability of input goods changes.
All this is to say, developers can design features with performance in mind by doing these types of rough estimates, and the game can have a huge number of locations, provinces, whatever, if the game is designed around it. Johan mentioned them thinking in these terms.
