Im currently 42 and in my 4th month expecting a little baby boy. My first child. I am a desperate case of low ovarian reserve written off by doctors as hopeless. Tried for more than 3 years, after a failed IVF I got pregnant naturally last year but misscarried, 7 months later I got pregnant again, naturally again and this time everything seems to be in order. I was close to going for the egg donnor treatment and giving up. Examining fertile mucus saved me. Sending lots of positive energy and baby dust to all women over 35 who suffer negative medical treatment. We need more people who support us not bring us down mentally. Plenty of emotional scars I am finally over the moon and so happy. Pray for me and for my baby. Wishing you all lots of strength, positivity, hope and baby dust.

I'm 45 and currently pregnant with my first. I never had any known fertility issues, I never tried for a baby. I got pregnant on my first attempt. My God is awesome!!. Every genetic screening came back normal. My doctor was stressing me about blood pressure because of age but my pregnancy caused my blood pressure to be low 90s/60s which is awesome. I have 3 months left. I have to remind myself I'm pregnant. No symptoms at all; not even nausea. So far I've only gained 8 pounds. I feel so blessed and look so much prettier pregnant. I'm greatful. I am starting to get a little more hopeful as I approach the 2nd trimester. I even thought I might be losing the baby, but it was a UTI causing me pain.

With the help of ART I gave birth to my first son a week before I turned 51. I gave birth to my second son 16 months later. My BP was slightly elevated late in my first pregnancy, but nothing that required medication. My second pregnancy I had no issues. Both were born vaginally. The only issue I had was that the placenta did not deliver on its own with the second delivery. That causes a great deal of blood loss. I don't think that was age related. My boys are both happy and healthy. If 35 is geriatric, what do you call over 50? LOL.

But the truth be told I think we wound up being a little better parents to this last child. I feel younger than 35 so it's a little crazy to think my eggs may not be good enough. I hope I am in the 75% who don't miscarry. I hope nothing is wrong. I have never been so scared of anything in my life. I just want everything to turn out okay

I’m 38 and this was my first attempt at TTC. I got pregnant the first month after I took out my IUD. Normal pregnancy thus far (despite some annoying miscalls with genetic screening that later ruled out all conditions, sigh). I’m 25 weeks and me and the baby boy are doing well! Just wanted to share because my doctors were MUCH less concerned than I was about my age. I think society puts us “older gal” into an tizzy about it but it’s been happening since the dawn of time. I DID see a reproductive endocrinologist 5 years ago because we knew we wanted to wait a bit longer and I’d suggest doing that to check on egg health and whatnot.

I have lupus as well. My doctor told me it’s best to get pregnant once your disease has been well under control for about 6 months. It has taken me years to get this point. My lupus has been pretty stable for the past year now. I do still get occasional joint pain and I still deal with fatigue due to not sleeping well but I’m doing quite well. I’m 39 going on 40 in December. My doctor has said I’m at a great place health wise if we want to ttc. I have always wanted to be a mom but I’ll admit I’m scared. Scared about my health and age. I will need to stop one of my medications to get pregnant. I will need to be off it about 2 months before ttc and off during the entire pregnancy if we get pregnant. On top of lupus I have a lung condition and heart condition (both minor and mild) but with both I take meds that will need to be switched to something different that is safe for pregnancy. So it’s a lot of medication changes that make me nervous. I also worry about if I flare after birth. How my health could affect our child on top of my age. If we have a baby at 40 we will be 60 when our child is 20! Will I make it to that age with lupus? Or what if my health gets to the point I can’t work and we aren’t able to financially support our child? Currently I have only been able to manage part time work as a nanny which means we can only afford our 2 bedroom basement apartment right now. I’m currently training for a new career that I can have my own business working from home which has the potential to bring in more than I am currently making but what if it’s still not enough for us to move to a bigger place? So many things to consider and things I feel we have to figure out soon with my age.

Some study has actually shown that the pelvis of women in teir 20's widens an then starts to "shrink" angain. I don't know if that has anything to do with the increased caesarean section rate of older women or not. The miscarriage rate is worrisome, though, as some often experience this loss as very traumatic. Knowing it is harder to get pregnant at advanded age make it so much harder. But, I agree that one should have children when feeling really ready for them, and if that occurs later in life - so be it.

People thinking "Geriatric Pregnancy" is better called "Advanced maternal age" are part of the problem. The term "Geriatric" in itself is not a bad thing unless someone thinks biological aging is a "bad thing". Geriatric Pregnancy does not mean you cannot have a healthy child. It just means you are at more of a risk of miscarriage or still birth, High blood pressure, Low birthweight, Premature birth and Chromosome disorders such as Down Syndrome than those under the age of 35. Statistics don't have feelings. Educating our youth about our biology is our best foot forward. Give them all of the info straight up so that they can make the best decisions for themselves down the line! For those having conception related issues that prevent or make it difficult to conceive I empathize with you and wish you the best luck. Life can be unfortunate but we change nothing by changing terms to sound more appealing when the same underlying biological preset is still present.

What are the odds of having Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy again if you've had it three times before and trying again more than a decade later?
I had ICP with my three kids and we're trying again. I wasn't able to keep my liver enzyme numbers at a healthy point with my first two kids but managed to get them down with my third child to a borderline level to be considered a low risk pregnancy. But I was 28 years old when I was successful at keeping my numbers low. Now I'm trying for a baby at 40 years old and I'm wondering how much success I can have at my age. I'm already trying to minimize fat content (this was critical to improving the results on my liver enzyme tests when I was younger) but I'm worried. It was incredibly difficult at 28 and I'm worried it's going to be too hard to pull off again. It's not like I was fat or unhealthy and that didn't seem to go very far to help me.

I am 34 and currently approaching cycle 6 of trying to get pregnant naturally. I am very interesting in learning more about the first trimester screenings available. Also, would it be appropriate for me to look at other options (clomid, IUI etc) if this 6th month is also unsuccessful? Thank you for all that you do!

The technical cutoff for definitions of infertility is 12 cycles of regular, ovulatory cycles and frequent intercourse for those < 35 and 6 months for > 35, that being said, as an OB-GYN I start looking into the causes of infertility and beginning a diagnostic workup at 6 months if the patient requests it. I would do a diagnostic workup before advising any specific therapy though, finding out the cause can then guide the treatment.

I got pregnant at 34, delivered at 35. Came across pregnant younger women in their 20s with either obesity, gestational diabetes or high blood pressure. And i know about 3young moms who had kids with down syndrome. . My mom had my brother at age 39 so to me age was never an issue, in my country its pretty common to see women giving birth in their late 30s or 40s. Only when i moved to the US I noticed it was seen like an issue, complication or something "strange". I could be wrong but at least in the city i live women start their families in their 20s so maybe an older mom is uncommon. I had to deal with dr offices misunderstanding my DOB or an ultrasound tech asking me if i got pregnant with my own eggs😂 anyway being a mom, when and how is a personal choice. Dont let anybody tell you otherwhise...

Good morning, I am turning 46 in six weeks and i just found out I am pregnant after 4 miscarriages and 1 mis-missed carriage at 8 weeks (13 weeks when baby aborted my body). I am concerned about my age but very concerned because on Jan 27th I had a scheduled mammogram. That morning, just as precaution, I took a pregnacy test which was so negative. My period was soon due and on Feb 5th I was 3days late so I decided to take another pregnancy test just to make sure. I was not expecting on getting a positive which I did. How concerned should I be about the fact that I had a mammogram on the 27th of Jan???

When you screen a pregnancy for an older mom, is it possible to treat the baby or is it mostly for the mom to decide (if there are defects) to abort? If it's the latter, the mom can opt out of special screenings , right?

I will be 40 when I deliver 😬 My ob recommends induction by your due date and doesn't want me to go over due, as the risk of stillbirth increases. Its my understanding that it is a small increase in risk. Is this standard practice in an uncomplicated AMA pregnancy? Trying to decide if i should seek a second opinion. Obviously want to be safe but would love to avoid being induced if at all possible.

I will have both educational videos about induction a VLOG about my own choice for induction in the next 2 months on this channel. You can ALWAYS get a second opinion. I would agree with your doctor though, the increased risk of stillbirth at advancing gestational age is even higher with advanced maternal age and therefore we're seeing a stronger recommendation for induction in this population to prevent stillbirth. I think when you watch my educational videos you might find your reasons for avoiding an induction may change a bit, I find there's TONS of misinformation out there about inductions so I can't wait to share evidenced based info on it!

Had two planned pregnancies at 41 and 42, both ended at 10 weeks. After second I had genetic test: heavy chromosomal abnormalities. By the way I became pregnant at first try both times. I accept my age and that my eggs are too old already, so I will not try any more. As my dr said, almost 80% of eggs after 40 are not normal any more.
