Just passed a few days ago, and your videos helped so much especially because it seems like you understand how uncertain a learner driver is
That's great news, congratulations on passing!
But how can you comment then?
Same I passed on Wednesday last week with 2 minor faults. One of them was a blind spot check and the other one was when I was doing my emergency stop, the instructor (old woman btw) hit her head on the sun visor and I started laughing.
@@im2goodm839 I would have laughed too😭 that’s on her, how she gonna tell u to do an emergency stop and not prepare herself for it
Rest in peace.
Wow, I am a new driving instructor in the USA, and I am blown away by how small and tight your roads are there.
I'm blown away how big your cars are , ( I'm a fan )
@@nicwestley8309 Glad to hear it! I recently have only owned full size body on frame vehicles just because, gosh I just love them so much! Haha
Essentially your roads in America are made for cars, roads in the UK are made for pedestrians
Yes and this is the main roads should have a look at some of the back roads /country lanes 😂
@@ymence8767that makes so much sense since you can literally go anywhere in walking distance! I don’t even know why people drive cars anymore when you can just walk
I literally just watched half of this clip before my driving lesson and my instructor was beyond impressed especially since I did horrible on my yesterday's lesson. The amount of info and techniques l learnt i.e clutch control and approach made me so confident!!!!! Thank you so much... I will keep watching your videos as I have a test next week :)
Good luck with your test!
@@ConquerDriving Thank you!!
Have you passed yet x
I realized that I get a lot of driving anxiety because I have aphantasia, so I can't visualize things in my head almost at all. This means that when I try to think about driving and visualize it, all my brain gives me is dark and scary and what little I can see often goes badly. Videos like this actually help massively just by giving me a real, solid experience I can look at and think "hey, I can do this!", so thanks!
Sir, to be honest, I won't be able to pass my future driving tests without watching your videos. And you're a life-saving instructor who keeps every driver safe.
Regards,
Sean
Can happily say that I'm part of the 'just passed' community; I honestly don't think I would've passed first time without your excellent videos. I found your manoeuvres videos especially helpful - thank you so so much for this amazing content! :))
That's fantastic news, congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving thanks so much! Really appreciate it 😊
Your channel continues to teach me things my instructor couldn't, or wouldn't, and I'm a better and safer driver because of you. Thank you Richard
Once again I'm blown away by your comprehensive and clear, detailed delivery Mr Fanders. Many thanks.
I'm preparing for my driving lessons soon and you make me so confident watching your videos 📹 you are amazing. Thank you for your effort doing this videos for us
I’m a driving instructor and always recommend your videos to pupils approaching test, very informative and clear, good advice.. superb mate!..👍🏽

Good afternoon!
My name is Kseniia. I am a university student. I am doing a project related to instructors in the UK. I want to create an application that will help you in your work. I need to do some research and interview 20 instructors.
I would like to conduct an interview with you. It will last about 20 minutes. Your information will not be shared with anyone. I can contact you on Zoom, Whatup or by phone.
Are you ready for an interview?
Sincerely,
Kseniia Velikaia
Mate, this video was perfect. I am a visual learner and you had well enough video for me to get the feel for what it's like and what to expect on a UK road. Your descriptions were just enough so I could understand every marker. Thank you!
I passed my driving test a couple of months ago and only bought myself a car a couple of weeks ago, so I'm a bit nervous about driving on my own especially long distances to see family etc. These kinds of videos keep my 'driver brain' ticking - great stuff!
I learned to drive in a small town and it was so relaxed driving there. When I relocated to London everything became faster, and to be honest, I am a more impatient driver now. It is stressing traffic building up behind you, or someone tailgating you bumper to bumper, forcing more aggressive driving on you.
Your videos are delightfully understandable and helpful! You sure are an amazing driver! I keep asking myself questions and you keep answering them. Cheers, mate
Great work done, you understand the confusions a new driver goes through usually. Thanks!
Passed today on 2nd attempt after watching your videos. Thanks for the help!
That's fantastic news, congratulations on passing!
Well done
Your videos are so helpful! You explain everything so well, and I have no doubt your videos will help me pass my future driving test when the time comes.
i absolutely love your channel please keep posting you are real and so helpful. thank you.
What a fantastic video! Great resource for anyone who is interested in safe driving, not just passing the driving test. Thanks for your work!
Fantastic video! I love to watch before practicing driving. Good explanation on how you drive in the UK. And i hope that you can make more this type of videos.
Passed today Richard, and have to join the thousands of others who have already thanked you for your incredible videos. I don’t doubt that they made an enormous difference to my learning! I’ll keep watching them because I feel like there is always more I can learn and frankly I enjoy watching them 😂
That's fantastic to hear, thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
This is a superb video and such a good idea. I talk like this when I am driving, it keeps me focused!
Please film more of this kind of narrated videos. It is extremely helpful!
This is one of the most helpful and well thought through driving videos I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much.
This video is the one i want to watch before my driving test as well as the one specifically what they look fpr on a test and for safe driving. I need to make sure i remember this.
Ther main thing that i think is useful, other than the live narration, is the camera on the pedals. Helped me the most to improve the past few weeks especially with my nerves.
Passed easily thanks to these videos, keep up the good work, and good luck to everyone who's just learning to drive.
That's great news, congratulations on passing!
I'd love it if you could do more commentary drive's like this one
Such a comprehensive video, thank you for making it.
These videos are so helpful! Very clear and interesting 👍👍👍made even better by your choice of socks👍 Brilliant, thank you!
Another video I never knew I wanted... Great stuff! Thanks Richard
Thankyou for this! Helpful to see someone drive.
This video must have taken you ages to make and edit - Hats off to you and a pat on the back man!
Thank you!
This is so helpful thank you from someone who passed their test 2 years ago and still is learning from your videos. I’m definitely a better driver for it. I can’t imagine the accidents you have helped prevent with your commitment to keep creating these quality content filled videos 🙏
Insanely helpful can see where i go wrong and compare to what you do in that situation , would be great if you did more of these videos , for example what ur doing/thinking in heavy uphill traffic and other areas
I have a test this month end and I found this video massively helpful not only to understand the rules but also the better car control. I will keep watching your videos until I pass the test. Yes I just subscribed✌️
Good luck with your test!
I got my drivers license in an automatic about six years ago, but I just acquired my dream car in a manual, and thanks to your videos I was driving it full time in less than two months! I appreciate your videos so much, the amount of detail you provide helps so much when you don’t have a proper driving instructor to show you these things. Thank you so much for being so helpful and understanding!
Just passed yesterday, I have watched your videos reqularly and it was helpful so much. I just want to thank you. You are doing great job!
That's great news! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!

I failed my test first time as i drove too close to the left kerb when there was a taxi in the bus stop, got another one soon, your videos help alot! :)

What a great clip / very helpful / keep up the good work 👏
passed my test on second try, failed at first only because couldnt do reverse parallel parking within the line as Indian test doesnt allow for as much space as in UK. only altered 1 bit from your parking formula, removed the 'angle off' part and voila I passed. thank you for your immensely detailed and thorough explanations Richard!
Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
Just got my driving license. Keep making these videos mate, they are a good work

Helllloooooo, I passed my test, I thank God I came across your channel, God bless you mehn, I pray that this channel grows even more than it has, I will still remain subscribed here to show my appreciation
That's fantastic to hear! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
One thing I've discovered after watching several of your videos is that I and many like me need to do refresher courses. I passed the motor cycle test in 1999 and the car in 1972. You've really made a mockery of the car test version 1973. I don't think I'd pass the current car test but I probably would the bike. The difference in the two is that the car always feels safer. I think even Rossi would probably adhere to biking standards riding through a city. I only wish I'd seen this stuff ages ago. preferably before 1972 many thanks for such amazing instruction.
I’m learning a lot from your videos 😊
Passed recently, 3 minors, and I had an awful instructor and learnt myself, and this CZcamsr is the very best for learning to drive. Thank you! PS, his collingwood insurance offer is very good.
That's fantastic to hear, thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!

Thank you sir for sharing this video it helps me a lot..i am new here and no idea with the right hand drive vehicle.i am looking forward to pass the driving test
I have been a qualified driver (uk) for 46 years. I like to think I can drive safely and well. Your video is telling me that largely, I do. Good to know. Thank you for an informative video.
Cool, I hope to learn something new
Thank you so much for this video
Very helpful all videos xx
I have passed my Driving test 21/07/2024 with Zero Minor faults 🥰
It requires me extensive hard work , focus and money as well.
I passed in my 2nd attempt.
My first attempt was 21/05/2024 the result was 2 serious faults with 14 minor faults .
All the best for my all learner brothers and sisters ❤️
Thought you said 'comedy' driving at the start 😁. Great vid as always!
I managed to pass yesterday with two minors and just wanted to say a huge thank you for your brilliant videos. In addition to a great instructor, they really did help and your explanations are so helpful, especially for anxious drivers! This video particularly helped just before my test, so thank you, Richard!
That's really great to hear! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
Didn't notice any mistakes, just a few things that I do differently.
The first would be rev matching, but I know why you wouldn't include this, and you mentioned it in the outro anyway.
When using cruise control I prefer to keep my foot in the usual pivot position, usually covering the throttle for comfort, but allowing for swift and accurate braking if the need arises.
Lastly when joining from slip roads and changing lanes on multi-lane highways I favour a more extreme side check, more of a blind spot check really. Not sure why possibly motorcycle training, or maybe just been caught out in the past by more frivolously looks.
Big fan of the magic roundabout, don't have any of those near me, looks like a lot of fun.
very helpful. thank you
Started watching this video, and after the first 5 minutes or so, the first thought was that this is the most useful First time driving in the UK Video for foreigners, much better than the usual "Driving in the UK for americans" that is the usual offering that emphasize the left hand side thing. It covers how to actually do it on a normal british weekday, complete with advice on what to do in awkward, but normal for brits, situations. Incidentally it shows how to handle a stick shift.
I would have to adapt again for a car because I've only driven vans for the past 25 years (no centre rear-view mirror). I recently hired a nearly-new van while mine was in for repair. It actually had the equivalent of a rear-view mirror because there was a camera in the rear door. I've not seen that before.
Just came across this now Richard. Greatly looking forward to watching this video in it's entirety later when I have time. In the meantime, watched a few brief snippets of it. Looks really interesting...though not sure if those very colourful socks are legal! 😀
😄
This Guy knows his stuff
bro, you are amazing
DVSA should take this video as a learning material, especially for new drivers, like myself. Many thanks
Great video !! Especially the part regarding zip merging ! I failed my AD1 part 2 other week 😔 but hey ho i will try again and keep watching your channel. Would you do a video about zip merging as it devides opinions 🤔 I don't think people realise it is the right thing to do !!
I'm sorry to hear you failed. Good luck with your next one. Yes, I may do such a video in the future.
relaxing video
Colchester is a beautiful town. Must be so many old style roads there
Hi Richard,
Love your videos on driving tips. Will it be possible to run some videos offering practical night time driving tips? I know in the UK late November it’s normally dark after 5 pm and I aware some countries impose night time driving curfews for newly qualified drivers. Welcome your thoughts.
Thank you.😊
Your amazing !
I've been going up and down the mersea road since I was a little kid, it's unusual to see it through the eyes of a dashcam 🤣
The person pulling in at 17:30 really demonstrates to me how good driver education and road manners are in the UK compared to most other places. They'd never pull over in the US unless you on the side without parked cars had already forced the issue by continuing forward.
And the instructor is also capable of drifting the supercars! I'm jealous of your life. Haha, keep driving😊.
Haha, thank you. Although I drift MX5s, not quite super cars 😉
I like to approach red traffic lights very slowly, so that with a bit of luck they will go green and I can continue without stopping. This might have worked at 13:40, and probably a 21:10.
Great video
Yo let's goo another upload
amazing ability to verbalise what usually happens on automatic (in a good driver's head, anyway)
"I'm driving to the left of the road as opposed to what's left of the road" that comment killed me 😂😂😂
05:45 I think it’s important to mention rule 215 of the Highway Code, when you see a horse on a road, you should slow down to a maximum of 10mph. 🙃
Well done I Very happy looking your CZcams☺️.
Yesterday I was passed my driving test so I’m very excited and I look in your CZcams very good thank you love
No way, I was going to ask if you would do a new series of just driving around and commenting. I haven’t watched yet, but would be nice to see commenting on other road user behaviours.
this video is extremely useful. I’d love to see another one like it. even better would be one in Los Angeles 😂😂
Absolutely great video! A question I have is, I know my cars speed is 10% lower then the "actual" speed (so displayed 33 is 30, 44 is 40 etc). From an instructor's point of view would you expect a driver to use the cars speed, or is it acceptable to use the "GPS" speed?
Hi Richard,
A great video and some good explanations.
I hope you don't mind me giving some feedback. As with most parts of driving having a systematic approach is a key skill and consistency in that routine is paramount. However, several times you commentate about seeing a hazard a head and slowing down, yet you don't mention using the centre mirror before slowing!
Thanks again for the content.
Thank you. In my opinion using the mirror before slowing down only delays slowing down meaning you can't slow down as gently. Which is why I don't understand the point of checking behind when you have to stop. I get it if stopping is an option as you can choose to delay it. But if you got to stop, you got to stop and the earlier you start the less harshly you will need to brake.
@@ConquerDriving
Hi Richard.
I am very surprised with your response and what seems to be a lack of understanding.
If you check your mirrors in good time, well before approaching a hazard or slowing down, you can assess what the vehicles behind you are doing and whether you need to increase the distance from the vehicle in front and brake earlier in order to warn them.
Surely you can see the benefit of that, it's basic defensive driving!
Hey Richard, could you consider making a video on parking in multi storey car parks? They are quite hilly and the surface is not the usual road so can be quite tricky sometimes
Thank you for your suggestion, I may do in the future.
I have shoes just like that, they’re my best for driving in for sure
Greetings from Poland. I also work as a driving instructor, I like to compare the training methods and examination requirements in the UK to Polish ones.
Greetings, I was in Poznań a couple of weeks ago.
