      As a Liverpool supporter I would love for Jurgen to manage the USMNT. However, it takes more than two years for Jurgen to create a team molded in his style. It's especially hard for a national team coach since you get so few camps to develop the team. If we had a full cycle and a qualifying hex (high stakes games) I'd say it would work. Jurgen would struggle to get the best out the team in two years with no catalyst games.

    As a British person I never believed the moniker that this current generation is the strongest US generation. They are the most technical because they are the first generation to emerge from the MLS and world academies system. I don’t see a McBride, Dempsey, Claudio Reyna, Beadsley,, Howard, Friedel or Donovan who were stars in their top 5 league clubs.
    A lot of people say they have more Americans in big European teams, but I think this is because European clubs see the commercial value in American players now, which wasn’t the case before. It didn’t go unnoticed in the Europe that when Pulisic joined Chelsea, the Premier League TV contract increased by four times it’s value in the USA, so big clubs are buying Americans to increase the value of their TV rights in the USA. There is also a lot more American owned teams in Europe now, and American owned teams tend to buy Americans for commercial reasons too. So,I think more Americans in top 5 leagues is more to do with commercial value than quality.
    I also think US trying to play this technical passing game, just makes the USA easier for big teams to beat. USA players are not at technically gifted as the players from the top nations who don’t have pay to play and have a street soccer culture that produces more technical players. Let’s be real Pulisic the so called greatest American player ever, would not start in the French, Spanish, Brazilian, Argentina, German, Portugal or even the England team. Why is the USA trying to play passing technical game other countries will always be superior than them at? That is why this generation not had any major wins against big teams like past generations. The traditional strengths of the US players were defensive organisation, grittiness, work rate and raw athleticism. But does the USA have those players with all MLS academies teaching American kids tiki-taka football? The USA should be playing to these strengths. Klinsmann gets a not of criticism in the US soccer media because he called out American soccer problems and there were people in American soccer waiting for him to fail when he was US coach because he wanted to shake up the status quo and a lot of people in US soccer have vested interests to keep things the same. But I still think his USMNT was the strongest USA team I have ever seen, who would regularly beat big names home and away because they what they were good at and what they weren’t good at and played to these strengths.

    First off, I'm all for people getting into soccer. The WC is coming up soon, but dang these guys are kind of telling on themselves here. Saying you want Mourinho to come coach us or someone of his caliber would be like a Kansas State basketball fan hoping that Erik Spolestra or Coach Pop can be hired to save the team next season.
    Lots of top level managers in the world kind of fall back onto National teams or it is a way for managers to elevate their profile or they are former players for that country. Look no further than the managers in Copa America and the Euros.
    Do we need a new manager? Very much so. Greg has had more than a whole cycle at this point and has not improved us at all. But we do not need someone with a big name in the world of football. We need a coach that will have a clear idea of how they want to play, that puts players in a position to succeed, holds them accountable, and can change tactics in the middle of a game.
    If we really want to talk about a big hire, we need to make a godfather type offer to run our federation because we literally do not know how to function as a proper football country. Get youth soccer organized in this country. Put futsal courts in as many places as you can. Soccer is not a sport for the well off in most of the world like it is here. Do a huge marketing campaign that lets kids know how much money soccer players actually make and let them know that unlike the NBA and NFL, which on average, have a preferred body size just to play at the highest level, soccer is perfect for every guy who was not big enough for those other sports. Hell even tell kids that it will help them with their footwork or something for other sports. And start running things like other, more established countries in soccer do.
    That and maybe one of these billionaires that keep buying soccer teams abroad could instead use their money to fund the god dang national team.

    I can admit that USMNT federation has some serious issues and flaws. Rehiring GGG to avoid a lawsuit or because he is BFF with some of these players is beyond unforgivable.
    I will defend the USMNT that it takes more than wearing a Brazil kit to try and project that you know anything about football. Some of the things said was pure projection rather than anything constructive.
    But back to the point at hand the quote by Matt Turner says volumes about the mentality and identity of this group. To say you are happy with the direction of the USMNT after losing to an inferior Panama squad not once but TWICE would make not want to see you wear the colors of this country again. It is a LOSER thing to say that you are happy with the direction of this team immediately after getting knocked of the group stage.
    They made a lot of great points in this rant. I will push back and say let's get real with the current charter of the US federation we can't and never will get a coach like Klopp. That's not happening because whatever the men's head coach makes so does the women's head coach. Klopp made around 15 million GBP so when people bring up that solution it doesn't exactly ring out with validity.
    I love my nation, I love the players that represent us, and the fanbase that support but the mentality and culture have to be fortified to a level that accurately represents this nation.

    No amount of talent will overcome Gregg's use of Pulisic everywhere but at the point, where he needs to be, and the use of a hold-up 9- which is a compensation approach for not having a 9 who can do what Pulisic routinely does from a less threatening position on the flank. We could have an all-world best 11 and still get 0-0 and 1-0 games against Carribean Islands and the rest of CONCACAF with Gregg's non scoring approach.

    Coach sucks. Unlike Barcelona we don’t build from the back we play out of the back. Send it run try and get it and then don’t play simple if you do get it take on three players or force a pass or don’t square for a tap in.

    Sack the coach if you want, but the US doesnt have the players to go far in tournaments. Getting out the group stage is about the best they can achieve given their level of talent. They were never at the level they should expect to beat a side like Pananma easily. Especially a man down.

  • @holamoco
    @holamoco Před měsícem

    I heard soccer is more expensive and not as accessible to join or get to the few facilities. Parents with a lower income cannot afford to pay or send their children to these places. So usually it is rich parents who can afford it. You miss out on a great deal of talents who want to play soccer but will never or can't progress beyond playing for a small boys' club. Perhaps missing out on several 100,000 talented children who will never be able to get the chance. Basketball, American football, ice hockey and baseball are the four major sports in the USA that dominate and are biggest investment. In these sports, there is more interest in finding, scouting and picking talent from poorer areas, because that is where, for the most part, the best talents come from and becomes the best players. Usually clubs pay for these youths and sometimes sign a contract. In the soccer world, that investment or ambition does not exist.
