i think the worry was that they were going to give him a platform. fortunately the panelists didnt give him a softball interview (lets be honest, most of these interactions are soft) and it came across as a disaster for trump

As a former journalist, I disagree with Roy Bellamy. Having 45 make a fool of himself at the NABJ convention just reminded the public of his true face. He was not in an environment he could control and clearly looked inept. The NABJ may have helped Kamala Harris win the presidency.

It came out bad because he was talking directly to real journalists in front of real people. When you talk in your dreamsphere to cult members and have propagandists reporting how "great" you are, you feel like a fish out of water when you go in front of actual journalists. And I'm not saying he's never talked to ABC or one of these other networks, but not talking to these journalists who are 100% deferential, especially during one of these BS debates.
For one of the few times in his life, he's been asked direct questions from a real journalist, and with nowhere to run to, and he was made to feel bad for a few minutes. He deflected and lied, of course, but not too long after but Secret Service rushed him out of there like this was a second assassination. They first one came for him physically, this one came for him intellectually...and in a battle of wits, he's completely disarmed.
This was one of the very few times when he's not in a situation where he has control. Imagine a white person without power. That's what this was. And I mean, nobody did anything wrong to him, they just put his own words and actions to him, and he couldn't handle it. Imagine that this person actually had parents - how did they raise him? Did they ever correct him? His instinct is to insult someone for making him feel - I won't say guilty or shameful, because he doesn't have the capability of introspection or some feeling of remorse.
This guy wouldn't even speak to the fact that a man died at his rally, he's left many in his wake, he's been a terrible person.... but to try to disrespect a woman for questioning you? Man, where did you think you were going? Church?
And I love this reporter for this one moment - she came with the whole thing...... she summarized the whole reason why nobody wanted his stinkin' a** there....and then asked the question. How he responded to it, a pure child. Puerile, worthless answer. He'll never grow up.

Then Rachel Scott fact-checked as she asked him questions and you see how it turned out. Let's vote The Convicted Felon into jail.

The reason why Trump needs to be interviewed is that there is about 500 thousand Americans in several suburban counties throughout six states that will determine who will win the electoral college. The reason you invite him is so that you can ask the questions that expose his racism, misogyny and fascism. The only problem is the rest of the media won’t cover it by playing the worst of what he said. CNN for example heavily edited his answers to make it seem like he was treated badly and answered aggressively but not psychotically. I think they made the right move of extending him and it was brilliant because he got to go in front of an audience without his theme music without the cheers no one cheered him when he got on the stage and get tough questions. And he showed when he gets tough questions by especially minority female reporters he’s gonna go to the race card and make himself look like a bigot which we all knew he was but this was probably one of the worst interviews he’s ever done and it really exposed him.
