I guess the casual watcher didn’t know that Simone got hurt the first night of the Olympics and they had to wrap her lower leg. The team was worried that she wasn’t going to be able to continue

I have that feeling watching Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. She is one of the most impressive athletes I have ever seen and if you’ve ever run track you know the 400 hurdles is top 2 most difficult single races in the sport. Completely unreal to me.

  • @simplycy919

Well I mean.. Not to come across as a hater or as an “anti-mental health” advocate buuuuuut..
The reason she was unable to compete in Tokyo was because they have strict laws and regulations toward Adderall and similar amphetamine based medications. There are no medical exemptions, regardless of being medically exempted by a sanctioned an event or not. They’re simply not allowed in the country.
It was completely swept under the rug, but it has come out as she has been on Adderall/methylphenidate since she was a child. If you know anything about these amphetamine based stimulants, it’s that it allows you to focus on the things you love and expedite the process in getting really really good at whatever you are putting your mind to. It's called dopamine folks. That’s why she was able to really hone her craft and make it her life and when that substance is removed from her (or anybody that has been prescribed/on them for as long as they have been), you are unable to complete the same task (or compete in this case) without it. I mean you COULD, but given the stage, spotlight and her level of unprecedented expectations there is absolutely no way.
You take these medications away from ANYONE and you will find them getting severely depressed for quite a while. It's like taking away an antidepressant, stimulant, and anti anxiety medication all at the same time. It just so happened to coincide with a narrative that they found would be more important to press upon society about sticking by her side during this time and a mental health awareness campaign, rather than just opening up the conversation about something like this.
i’m not taking anything away from her, or her achievements, nor am I saying that just ANYBODY prescribed amphetamines could come close to realizing this type of potential. I am just telling you how I see it from my perspective.
So if anyone is wondering how somebody can become so dominant at something like gymnastics, from such a young age… It’s just something to think about.

This is bullshit and a lie, they could take their ADHD medication. I don't know where people get this take. You are ridiculous 🤬 plus ADHD medication for people with ADHD makes them slow down be normal doesn't make them better. You'd have us believe a black woman would have gotten away with doping in a world sport. You are delusional. #nkt

“Best athletes of all time?” I think not. So save the politically correct crap. Maybe one of the better female athletes we’ve seen but certainly not in Babe Zaharias’ league. And btw, the best athletes are men by definition.
