- On the corner of Flatbush and Dekalb in Downtown Brooklyn, a skyscraper rises above the historic Dimes Savings Bank building. The supertall, which is the first of its kind in Brooklyn, is being developed by JDS Development and was designed by SHoP Architecture. Now, as the building nears completion, we took an inside look at the process of bringing a new icon to life in one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in New York. Speaking to developer Michael Stern and architect Gregg Pasquarelli, we learned about the process of designing a unique structure on a uniquely challenging site, and came to understand why the Landmarks Preservation Commission called it “enlightened urbanism at its best.”

Beautiful tower, love the art deco architecture. I hope to see more art deco skyscrapers and less blue glass buildings.
Beautiful skyscraper. So glad they saved the historic building and I feel like the two buildings definitely work well together. Love all the warm tones in the design... so sick of seeing cold glass cubes rise everywhere.
Sarcastic?
@@ee.es00 Nope. Not in the slightest.
@@MrMountainchris have you seen it in person?
@@ee.es00 Yes
Its the ugliest building I ever seen . Looks like a insidious, imposing devil's tower...
They should have made it gold with silver edges. Right now it looks like a lump of coal - turd..
This building is beautiful, great design and great location !!
That is a gorgeous building!!!! Congratulations Brooklyn!!
Fantastic partnership between design and development.
Cannot WAIT to see this in person! GORGEOUS!
Looks incomplete without the Eye of Sauron on top of it... Damn you, Frodo!!!!!
this building looks better than any on billionaire's row
Easily. Although 111 W 57 is pretty beautiful.
Beautiful project. Congrats
is it me or did they build the Tower Orthanc or Barad-dûr from LOTR. All it needs is a fire'y eye atop it.
Exactly, it looks demonic and imposing. Its the ugliest building I ever seen . Looks like a insidious, imposing devil's tower...

Incredible design
Remarkable work
/// // Awesome Architecture
I am sure the view of the Manhattan skyline is the best from this tower's upper floors!
Is there , or will the building ever have an observation deck open to the public at any point in the future ?
This is now my 2nd favorite building in Greater New York, after the Chrysler Building.
Imo, The Woolworth building is among this group as well..
My favorite is The Twin Towers even tho they’re destroyed but this building is just as impressive
Magnificent architecture by smart visionary individuals. Would like to meet the team in the near future.
Sauron moved to Brooklyn?
Make sure there are strict behavior standards with the 'bank building'. Sure looks special also . . . inside and out.
Entire city of Brooklyn?
There’s tons of straight lines. You’re just missing right angles
Not a chance they got anyone from Chetrit group on camera for this
ahah - cool building nonetheless
4:18 I see a new tower near the manhattan bridge that doesn't exist yet, woooo new project?
“Equal housing” they call it, but monthly rent starts above 4000 dollars… 😵💫 am I missing something here? 🤔
The eye of sauron, it will be known as.....
He meant the borough of Brooklyn. Brooklyn is just another borough of NYC.
This is what happened when one borough (Manhattan) get all of glory.
One skyscraper, for the Dark Lord on his Dark Throne, in the Land of Brooklyn, where the Shadows Lie.
Exactly, it looks demonic and imposing. Its the ugliest building I ever seen . Looks like a insidious, imposing devil's tower...

such a tight area with very high Building I wondder who would Like to Live there , may be Chinese escapes from Taivan or Mainland China who Plan to escape China do not really Know Area . I use to Work there and Scare to Walk night time streats around there .
Correct! If you have young kids there is no way you can feel safe having your kids there, the street is busy and the intersections are dangerous as hell, not the best location in my opinion and at night, good luck, lots of creeps and weirdos and it gets desolate, no thanks.
I’m shocked to see how many people like this design I’m wondering if they’re all paid by the company who built it as everyone I kno thinks it’s a hideous eyesore and truly one of the most repulsive buildings anyone’s ever seen
Gentrification trash. The building looks unfinished
This type of construction should be illegal , I live in the area and I hate all the construction and this just drives the gentrification of the area even further
