I had a spine X-ray laying down like this and below my waist wasn’t covered with a radiology cover vest to protect my organ parts. I see it’s not done here either. So the cover isn’t used for this type X-ra
If we cover you then we will cover the area of interest on the APs. On the laterals the shield won't lay on you correctly and has potential to get in the way and cause us to repeat. This doubles your dose, which is worse than just exposing you once. Also, reproductive organs are fairly insensitive to the doses we use in general x-ray. There are also other factors to consider, if the shield is covering one of the automatic chambers it will effectively increase the dose that we would normally need. Shielding is actually starting to become recommended not to use at all because it is misused so often, and new technology uses much lower doses than in the past.
