  • This a a drive around parts of New London Connecticut from the viewpoint of a small camera located on the front hood of a car. It occurred on March 16, 2021. I used a GoPro Hero 8 Black to record the video. I used a Sound Devices MixPre 3 ll to record the audio separately. I did the final audio edit in Reaper and the final video edit in Final Cut Pro X. Streets covered were Back Street, Pequot avenue, Ocean avenue, Montauk avenue. A drive through Ocean Beach was done as well.

That mural of the whales was painted by Wyland, I was there when he was painting it, I have had the pleasure of seeing one of his other murals in Alaska.

❤️ "Built on blubber". 💚 💛 The house on the right, at 34:50, was lost in a house fire. The Lighthouse Inn had a fire, but they were able to save it. Same year.

Hehe, I reglazed the windows in the Manwaring building on State St., I also helped stencil the walls in the Garde Arts Theater... so many memories! Also, fun fact, Fiddleheads used to be the grocery store called California Fruit.

Love Fred's Shanty. I live down towards the Stamford area, and make a trip up there once a month during the spring and summer just to get a hotdog and a burger!

Lived in New London for three months in an apartment off Bloomingdale Rd. in 1987.
Being from Texas, it was a culture I wasn't used to, but I enjoyed my stay.

I lived right there on the corner of willets ave and shaw st. right across the rail road bridge by the shit plant when I was 10 yo back in the early 80s, my dad had joined the Navy and was stationed in Groton. We lived there for 2 years. I went to school there and was inspired to play drums from friends i met and heck I delivered Newspapers for that paper company you drove by...I was making bank at 10 yo between delivering papers and collecting cans for that 5 Cent return...wow just watching this brings back memories. I had a friend that lived in that yellow condo on Pequot...me and another friend used to sneak into ocean beach with our rafts we would just float in from the creek... I was first addicted and mastered pac man at the local bar called The Raiders Roost..my mother would go in and drink and they would let me play pac man...sometimes for free..Oh yeah also discovered rap and hip hop i was from central pa and i wasnt very hip..lol..was the first place i saw people scratching turntables...it was pretty wild.. yeah man and That Ocean Pizza and Hot Dogs from Freds Shanty. I have never had a better hot dog yet and Ive been up and down the east coast..oh yeah and the Grinders man...they were new to me and i must have ate at least 1 everyday that and lebanese pita stuffed pocket things...man the food was awesome there..yeah my one and only gripe was i remember swimming there at shit beach on pequot ave and could actually feel the water burning my skin probably from chemicals of the Big Pfizer plant across the water polluting the environment..
I remember Baba Orileys I delivered their newspaper and they would give me free sodas while i played video games...they were really good people and they had some really famous acts play there. I would also go to some pizza place that was near there and burn the roof off the top of my mouth with their thick crust pizza that was alright. I would also hang out there at the youth center on shaw st i think and we shoot pool and fooz ball basketball etc.. usually it was the free snacks sometimes that attracted me...lol

My mother grew up on summer street. I played this video for her just now and it made her week reliving all the memories on bank street. Her parents owned “the half shell” restaurant back in the day which is long gone.

Great to see this, brings back memories. I used to live in an apartment on State Street in 1992 in the building on the left with the orange awning at the 12:23 mark. I worked in a building across from the Radisson on Gov Winthrop, still had a racquetball court on the ground floor as I'm told it used to be the YMCA. Nice perk to be able to play racquetball at the office. The sidewalk in front of the park on the left at the 14:30 mark was populated with hookers back then.
I half-expected to see the Vietnam vet named Cal, holding a sign at the monument at the end of Bank Street, he was a good guy.

I lived across from you for 18 months, in the red brick, early 80s. Loved the atmosphere. The church on the right, at 12:31, is what we lost recently, in a collapse.

You did NOT do a clean sweep of Bank. You missed a mile. You missed a packy, Mike's Famous and a few restaurants. Two suggestions, s l o w down a bit and when it's important to the region you're recording, have a handheld camera you can turn. Other than that, excellent job. I watched your videos when I was away and homesick. ❤

What a shame. Building are done right with businesses beneath and apartments on top. But then there's a six lane road that separates them which completely negates that type of walkable neighborhoods those style of buildings create. Never understood why an entire country's infrastructure is centered around something that sits in a parking spot 99% of the day instead of the citizens themselves.
