As I understand it, that's a very old building, built well over a hundred years ago. I remember an extensive remodel & new facade in the late 60s or early 70s. If it is indeed that old, and if it's structurally sound, it should be saved and restored. America has razed far too much of its past. There was a sign in the video - "A Walka Family Enterprize" - is that the same Walka family that once owned some mobile home parks in the area? I was friends for a while with Vic Walka Jr., he passed away a couple of years ago, but we never talked about that project. I don't know if his mother is still alive, and I know he has a sister. Tom, I could watch this walking tour of the Mohegan Park Disc Golf Course(Est. 2020). Covid-19 was a key factor in how outdoor things to do, like playing disc golf, even alone, boosted the game worldwide. I am waiting for disc golf's best season to enjoy the sport, the fall and spring to experience this beginner friendly and if you want an advanced player challenge. For someone that has never seen the game or a course, your commentary was beyond excellent. You are not wrong by calling a disc golf basket, a target....or a tee pad, a platform.....or by calling the next challenge shot off the tee pad, a hole. Here would be a typical type of disc golf talk amongst players when they are playing. "Ok guys, give me your scores for that last hole. There's the sign for the next hole, so let's get to those rubber matted tee pads and may someone today make a hole-in-one in one of those awesome Innova Discatcher baskets!☺" The shorter distance holes(up baskets) are for newbies to the game or beginners. The longer holes that go to the yellow Innova Discatcher baskets are for the maximum challenge and the advanced to pro players. I see the number of views growing every day and it grow more if you ever returned to the course on a beautiful and refreshing September or October weekend with players on the course. The players would welcome your video recording their play and watching themselves in action. Not getting in their way, would be no problem at all. You could always stand behind the tee pad looking down the fairway or video tape play from behind the basket looking back to the tee area. Now that, would get the views multiplying and multiplying. God Bless You for doing this wonderful video!.......your compliments about this course, the game, and how nature and disc golf go together like no other sport. You should do a video about Benedict Arnold and his family. He was born on Washington Street and his family is buried in the old Norwichtown cemetery there's historical signs in both the places. Also I grew up in the old John Gager house on Lee avenue. There's a settlers cemetery at the top of the hill.

Thk u Tom. My father who sadly passed away in 2017 was a psychiatrist there and we lived there in the cottages across Rt 12 that u pointed out for 2 yrs ('71 - '73) before leaving. In fact I still remember the light pole on Rt 12 w the road across leading towards the Admin bldg. That's where I got the school bus that took me into Kelly Jr High for 2 yrs. I learned how to swim in the pond u showed which had a barrel pontoon platform in the middle that we used to play tag arnd n under it. We also skated n played hockey on it during the winter when frozen over. Remember also going to Pondview bldg for Holiday or staff parties. There were also a lot more doctor staff residences up the hill towards Norwich that had a lot more doctors' kids living up there that we used to play backyard football at. Believe the Martin House was the residence of the presiding hospital superintendent when we lived there. Oh what memories u brought back for me...Thk u n I'm gonna look up ur other videos as well.

@@stephenliu4637 Thank you so much for the comment Stephen. When I worked there the superintendent was provided a very nice house up the hill on Route 12 right near Bryant building which I did not record. I really should take a ride up there and record that building as well. I remember that barrel pontoon in the pond. There is a Facebook group of former employees that only has about 600 members. If you’re on Facebook you might find that group interesting because there are an incredible amount of old photos there you would probably love seeing.

Tom, you did a great job in finding all the baskets off each hole. I know the tee signs gives one the direction to go even if you can't see the basket from the tee. Your footing around the course was excellent. By the way, this course was originally a 9 hole course with the Discraft Chainstar galvanized gray baskets. The City of Norwich with the help of the sponsors noted on each tee, installed 24 brand spankin' yellow band new Innova Discathers at $550 a pop. This course will improve more and more as the years go by, as will the number of players having great recreational good times playing it. The winter and the snow doesn't stop the play for Ice Bowl events are popular throughout the country and the world. I'm gonna see if I can ace one of these holes on the course!. As you have seen, there is a great practice field to throw discs before you play, located before the 2nd tee. It is a good idea to be warmed up, stretched out, just like you would on a ball golf course and the driving range. I want you to grab a putter disc and get the feeling of doing some finishing out a hole. A place to park, get a drink of water, and a place to utilize a bathroom are all important elements of a well thought out disc golf course. That practice putting area is gold!☺See you soon my friend, Sincerely, Bill M., Uncasville, CT and Tom a million thanks for making this video I will use forever to promote this course and get new players into the game!☺

@@TomKaszuba I think I now watched this wonderful Mohegan Park Disc Golf Course Y Tube for the 8th time since you posted in for viewing. Let's see if we can get the number of views easily over 100 and counting. I have now shared it with the disc golf community and one special person named Mr. John Houck who will be having his Texas based company doing another World's Biggest Day Golf Weekend on the first Saturday in May 2025. Thirty years ago in 1994, I tournament directed my first at Ft. Shantok State Park. I still have many of the discs and shirts from that event, and several from following years until 2000. The purpose of that World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend is to expose the game to new players worldwide. I may just be at Mohegan Park DGC on that first Saturday in May 2025 and do a some disc golf promotion myself. If I am an ambassador for disc golf, you my friend are the best and one great ambassador of sharing top quality video/audio communication for public awareness information that we all appreciated!☺Just an idea for another walking tour is my local Ft. Shantok park in Uncasville, which I used countless times for temporary disc golf course set ups with portable baskets in the 90s through 2006. The hiking trails are so convenient and the walk so refreshing, especially at this time of year. I am sure the Mohegan Indian Tribe would appreciate you doing that tour as much as I did for this A+++++ Mohegan Park Disc Golf Course tour♥☺Most Sincerely, Bill M., Uncasville, CT non-profit disc golf promoter since 1993☺

I went to NFA in 89/90 and was in the choir. We'd go there to sing holiday songs to the patients and there was really cool underground tunnels we'd go through to get from one building to another. I heard they closed it because they found a lot of asbestos throughout all the buildings. No one could afford to clean it up. Eventually they had to be torn down.

It was a beautiful walk on the disc course today, and I found the looks of this game appealing. Not knowing anything about the game though, I wonder if it would be helpful to the participants if yellow or gray corresponding splashes of paint on the trees would help guide people through the course? This would mimic the blue splashes of paint on trees which guide the hiker through the Connecticut blue trail hiking system.
