  • In this video I build and chat about the DT-03 Tamiya Aqroshot RC buggy / short course truck chassis. Along the way I hope to throw in a few tips and show some of the essential hop-ups for this kit.
    Many thanks my mate Rob ‪@robbrennanrc‬ who got this kit for me as a gift. Also a big thanks to Peter ‪@cw-01creations46‬ for sending me the excellent Orion 12T motor and ESC.
    About the DT-03 T kit:
    This assembly kit R/C truck features a stylish body inspired by U.S. stadium racing trucks. Made from lightweight and durable polycarbonate, it features a rear wing, and can be decorated using the flashy markings included in the kit. The chassis provides suitably dynamic driving fun, and is mounted with front and rear wheels of differing offset, mounted with radial semi-pneumatic tires.
    The stylish slimline form of this chassis stems from its lightweight yet durable monocoque frame, which features a longitudinally-positioned battery and the R/C equipment along the centerline for excellent balance. The combination of a long 287mm wheelbase and 4-wheel double wishbone suspension married to CVA oil dampers with long arms at a 25-degree attachment angle, allows the model to handle with stability on poor surfaces. The rear-positioned gearbox is sealed to protect from dust and dirt, with the built-in differential gear offering smooth cornering.
    Specifications
    ●Length: 425mm, Width: 298mm, Height: 143mm ●Wheelbase: 287mm ●Tread (Front/Rear): 251mm/243mm ●Tire Width/Diameter (Front & Rear): 47/84mm (Front) ●Monocoque Frame ●Rear Wheel 2WD ●3-Bevel Differential ●2-Piece Steering Tie-Rod ●Front & Rear Double Wishbone Suspension ●CVA Oil Shocks ●Gear Ratio = 9.28:1 ●Type 540 Motor ●Requires electronic speed controller (sold separately)

    Hi Mark, a great installation video of the talented DT-03 chassis. I like the way you’ve highlighted the design features of the chassis, those more flexible plastics, acting as buffers to the more rigid plastics. Lots of hints and tips too…a real experienced modeller at work, 😊😊. The DT-03 chassis is such a great beginners model,yet has plenty of hop up components as standard, and for the price, it’s amazing value. I’m interested to see how yours goes, with that AW grease acting as a LSD 🤔. Oh, pop some Team ZX-1 micro oil on those bearings 😊, makes them run really smoothly. 😊😊looking forward to seeing the Mark Bryan bodywork😊😊hope you and the family are keeping well, best wishes 😊😊

      Hi John and thanks as ever! Yes I thought it would be a good idea to chat about the features of the design for a change, thought it might interest the RC enthusiasts like you out there! Glad you enjoyed it!
      I agree, this chassis is perfect for a beginner but still has good performance even though it's a relatively simple kit to put together. I'm interested to see how it goes too, John! Fingers crossed. Thanks for the ZX-1 tip, I'll look out for that! All the best to you and yours too, take care mate! 🤗👌👍

    I like the DT-03 chassis, although it does tend to understeer under power due to the long wheelbase. I had a Racing Fighter a couple of years ago, but I converted it to a DT-02 Sand Viper and added a few hop-ups, and it was awesome. It jumped well, ran well, and I didn't break anything on it. Oh, I also replaced almost all of the screws with hex-head hardware. Sadly I sold it as I needed the money at the time, but I'm so tempted to get another one. Awesome video as always!!

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi Barry and thanks for the great comment 👍 I have to agree the DT03 does tend to understeer compared to the DT02, but with the Blitzer front tyres I reckon it might be a little better 🤞 I get 100 m3 10mm stainless screws for 3 quid, so it's a no brainer! Always room for another RC car, pal! Cheers! 😎👊👍

    What a great build tutorial again, Mark! I think these videos are really helpful, especially for newer hobbyists. And even though I like to consider myself experienced, I like to watch a few build tutorials before starting on a kit myself. Partly to catch the tips and issues beforehand, but also as part of getting hyped up for the build.
    Another thing, you described it really well, the use of softer plastic to make it quite a durable RC. I had actually not thought of the way the gearbox was attached to the main chassis, it's quite nice!

    Love how the servo mounts into, so much better design than the early little posts where the screws can come undone. Will be interesting how fast the motor will be in this, I find the DT-02/03 not that fast over the DT-01 with the gearing. I'm with you with the tyres, but you know my choice is Madbull 🙂

    Thanks to Rob for the kit, thanks to Peter for the motor and ESC.....
    and a big thanks to Mark Bryan for another very clear and professionally presented build video.
    Always enjoyable to see these kind of build videos on some of the more modern offerings mate.
    As someone who generally sticks with cars from Tamiyas first 100 (up to 1992 ish) it's interesting to see how the design and the components have evolved over the years, different construction/build techniques are also very apparent.
    Tamiya have made designs less complicated, lighter, stronger and more efficient.
    This chassis looks like a good example of this.
    Do you think that the anti wear jizz is of noticeable benefit?
    I've got a huge metal tub of late 1970s Castrol molybdenum jizz that I've been using on everything since the mid eighties (new builds, restorations etc)..... I've never had any issues with it despite hearing it can attack plastics long term.
    Looking forward to seeing this thing running fella,, I'm guessing it will be quite nippy nipsta with that motor, and a whole load of fun! 😂
    👍 👍 👍

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 8 měsíci +1

      ...and a massive thanks to James for another thoughtful and interesting comment!
      Yeah I do like the contrast between the classic chassis designs and these newer offerings. Both have a fascination for me! I love the older, quirky nature of the constructions but it seems that Tamiya continue to be quirky in the modern day! Yes this DT03 is stronger and more efficient but does have some cool solutions to those issues. As for the AW grease, yes it definitely has benefits. For keeping joints sealed, it's unbeatable, it's like gorilla snot!!!! And in the diffs you can definitely feel the difference when driving.
      I've used moly grease as a standard lubricant for many years and never had an issue with it damaging the plastics - hell, Tamiya even supplies moly grease in some kits!
      Yep, hoping this one runs well, fingers crossed, fella! Cheers! 😁👊👌👍

      Not guna lie, the BBX is one modern cat that really has got my interest..... especially after seeing Fils in action!
      Interesting to hear about the
      'gorilla snot' super jizz, and I am most surprised that you can actually feel the difference in the gearbox!
      I have a couple of round pots of that, I think they came with my monster beetle kits..... Will definitely try it out now mate, cheers for the knowledge.

    She a beauty Mark, hope you love her long time! Something I found with my Racing Fighter (DT-03) is the energy transference from the front wishbones to the chassis and servo is super efficient (not in a good way). Hiya mate. Ah yes I'd forgotten what a nice kit this is. Nice and straight forward and the end result is great with the Blitzer tyres. One thing I'd have done is to use the brass ball connectors to mount the shocks. Less slop and easy to remove the shocks if you need to. I'm hoping that this chassis will be the basis for next years speed challenge. Yours is pretty much ready for the brushed contest! I'm sure you're doing a lovely job on the body shell too. My Aqroshot body got a bit beaten to death and now it's got an HPI Firestorm body but other than that it's still going strong. Anyway, hope you're having a smashing weekend. I built mine with Blitzer tires as well, the width is right for a Blitzer Beetle but i had to shorten the chassi by cutting a section out in the middle to make the wheelbase right. "Stitched" it back together with strong wire plus epoxy to seal and for strength.
    Designed a custom servo bracket to hold it vertical, instead of at the stock angle, to make the my 5200mah battery fit.
    Since the chassi was shortened the battery doesnt slide all the way to the bottom in the front of the tub so i had to design a custom battery hold down, it screws in to two of the holes on the front and clicks in place by hooking into two other screw holes, really secure.
    Then it was just a matter of making up some custom body mounts and ive what looks very much like a Blitzer beetle from the outside.
    Went this route because the kit came with the right rims and i wanted to have a go at the DT03, seemed like a good pick since its more modern than the Blitzer chassi, cheap replacements parts.
    The shape of the chassi makes adding a dust cover really easy, just cut a 50cl soda bottle to fit and attached it with a couple of pads of velcro, i also taped over the servo access on the bottom to keep stuff/water from getting in there and possibly fouling the steering/servo.
    Had a torque tuned motor in mine and on the first outing it burned out, like got hot enough to partially demagnetize, making it weak and it also started sounding bad, like its grinding on the inside, no idea how that happened, was just running on some gravel. Became my first brushless Tamiya. It can do little wheelies on asphalt with the street tires so i made a wheelie bar for it, not likely it will be necessary but wont hurt anything that its there.

      I love the dt03 buggy, debating another one... I'd love to see a somehow shorter version for a Stadium Blitzer and/or Blitzer Beetle style release...
      I'm hoping to test a couple Holmes Hobbies retro sport motors after winter, in place of Torque Tuned, Sport Tuned, and silver can motors....

      @zid_just_zid Před 8 měsíci

      @@isaiahfurrow7414 if you search for "Blitzed dt03" on google the details of my build should come up. There really isnt a lot to shortening the chassi, i picked a place where the width is as consistent as possible and not intersecting any screws, carefully marked and cut away 27mm, drilled holes for the 1.5mm steel wire id use to "suture" the chassi back together. There wasnt any flex after twisting the wires together, i used a method used for tying rebar, with good wire its really strong, i suspect the plastic of the chassi is more likely to tear out before the ties open, even before the application of epoxy, i left a bit of meat between the holes i drilled and the cut. I covered the sutures and joint with epoxy which ought to give some additional strength but mostly to prevent the ties rusting and making the bottom of the chassi solid/waterproof again.

      Many thanks for sharing your modification info in such detail! I'm sure anyone reading this could use your instructions to make their own DT03 Blitzer! I've also had a couple of brushed motors burn out, and yes I think it's small bits of gravel embedding themselves in the internals of the motor! Brushless is a great upgrade, anyway! Cheers!

    The DT-03 is a classic already!
    What's your plan with the body my friend?
    Cheers James.

      Hi there James! Cheers my friend, yeah it sure does have a mean stance! It's a bit cold 🥶 for a trip to the beach mate, at least for me and the fact that it's 100 miles away! 😅 Still deliberating about the bodywork, any suggestions mate? Hope you're doing well, all the best! 😎🤝👍

    Nice video! Just asking if the Super Stock motor is really 13T, the Super Stock motor that I can get is 23T.

      Thanks! Yes the Tamiya Super Stock motor is 23T, but it does spin up to 27,500 revs, a massive upgrade on the stock Mabuchi silver can that spins at about 14,000 revs (RPM)!!!! 😎👍
