Bethesda's all but given up on any kind of serious QA/QC on their games; little bother when they've been using the same engine for like 20 years, and it was a buggy mess back then. They behave more like a political party or an abusive boyfriend/girlfriend: they don't actually do anything other than the bare minimum, badly; then they complain that if you want things the way they should be, you should do it yourself... only to then take credit when you do their work for them.
Also, just like an abusive relationship, you still keep coming back, again and again, even though deep down you know the healthy thing is to walk away.

This was my experience with fallout 1, it's INSANE how much time I've sunken into the game that wasn't just level grinding like fallout 4. The amount of impact a single casual dialogue choice can make is incredible.
I felt the same way, it was decently fun until the “veil lifted” and I realized there was literally zero reason to explore anywhere and without that mystery i didn’t want to play anymore. Theres also only like 5 or 6 total settlements. That sucks

Amazing how sam hyde is a better reviewer and has more integrity than pretty much any games journalists and most youtubers. I dont know what he means he killed the guy with the african accent, you cant kill anyone in this game unless there is a quest saying you can. Every character is essential. Also morrowind and oblivion had different heights on races, high elves were the tallest and bosmer were the shortest. Bethesda died with fallout 4, they keep going backwards since then.

@@Im9002glorious The quests were there, the story telling was still there. Even though the world itself wasnt nearly as polished, it still had some replay value (Shivering Isles). Skyrim is just painful, Fallout 4 was downright bad, and Starfield is pretty unbearable. I got to Atlantis and called it quits, just didn’t want to waste my time on something like that again for zero return.

in reference to the height question, previous bethesda titles did not have all npcs have the same height. in ES titles, the different races had different heights. fallout at least had power armor to mix up height sometimes but they had super mutants i guess.
in morrowind and oblivion they had fixed the camera to your characters head in first person, so you could actually see it in first person too. in Skyrim the camera is fixed to the chest, so even if youre a 6'5 high elf in first person youre still shorter than like everybody.
@largewings I don't really mind that though. When I look at a "crowd" I can see the differences. Hyde had almost the exact take I had on starfield besides it being worth while for its price. I think for a 30$ game, they would have nailed it. 70$ Bethesda title? Trash.

I kinda regret not immediately returning it for a refund. It exists in a weird purgatory between being dogshit and fun. Like it’s objectively bad, but can be fun. It can become awesome in 5 years if the chad modders run with it (like every Bethesda game)
It's because it rides off of the same style of gameplay that made earlier Bethesda titles work, but is virtually flaccid in everything else.
That's a fair take. I've had a lot of fun playing the game(100 ish hours in), but not without some frustration and me scratching my head at some of BGS's terrible decisions.
But I find most criticism to be overly hyperbolic, games I would consider "dogshit" or "ass" are far worse than this game.
Unironically why I bought fallout 4 recently, I dumped a ton of mods in it and now I'm running around in hellfire XO-3 power armor killing BOS filth as an enclave soldier. The mods are the only reason to play the game at all.

Like last night I went back to merjohed after several days doing other quests and they told me the cure I gave them didn’t work well enough and everyone died. I feel bad ngl. I talked to these people and promised I’d help and even helped bury this old lady’s husband. This game makes me feel like a time traveler it’s like medieval simulator. And the open world is genius and beautiful

In oblivion you had to travel to each mage hold to get a recommendation from each head mage for 2 reasons. 1 they just banned necromancy so they are restricting the rable mages from joining 2 it makes sense from a faction sense of high mages. Not only rich in lore but world building oblivion had over 100 side quests sam is right.

there are lots of different terrains on the planets, and you have the ability to fly pretty far. It might be more game breaking to be running into giant gorges in every terrain on every planet in the game
its like no mans sky, procedurally generated planets, so they cant put barriers, at some point you will see flying objects because the procedural generation messed up.

Ive played all this shit, oblivion was the best. Even going back now how shitty and clunky it is.. it kept you interested, the way you had to traverse the tarrain, the side quests, the story, the music, the NPC diolauge it just hit like a truck. Even to this day playing it on my series X. Its clunky fuck yeah.. but dammit imma have a good time playing it

It definitely doesn't hit the spot for Bethesda games. The only thing that Bethesda did good in the past 20 years is completely absent, exploring an open world map.
So many weird inconsistencies happen in the game that makes it a slog to play through after a while. Love how I can wear gang clothes/armor that indicate I am a murderer and I can walk through a policed city with no problem. Strongest military fleet in the galaxy? Can’t take on a single space station. Advanced space technology prolific throughout the systems? Walk everywhere on every planet.
Banned mechs, but then you see them in the museum doesn't even look like your MC can sit in it as they look undersized which makes them seem less threatening.
Such a difference between bg3, which feels handcrafted and actually rewards exploration. This feels like a game generated by AI.. no soul

That's only true for the "1000s" planet gimmick. The main cities have there own side quests.

Honestly, even Bethesda Fallout isn't that great as RPGs. New Vegas ruled, but that was made by former Black Isle staff and is still inferior to Fallout 1 and 2 IMO.

the universe of starfield is just so tame. the party city where psychoactive drugs are not only legal but encouraged is literally just one commercial street with a "night club" where theres 3 middleage ugly people in morphsuits doing the wiggle. the slums dont have a single mugger or instance of crime even if the NPCs say its rampant. the concept of sex doesnt exist, no NPC ever mentions attraction or arousal. all the clothes are turtlenecks and long pants with different textures. and outside of the ONE city where the quests are, the rest of the main planet of the entire human race is just wildlands covered in hostile wildlife, no farms or suburbs or settlements.
in fallout at least the raiders would stick peoples heads on pikes and super mutants would keep piles of spines.
it really feels like they made a rated PG game and then decided to add bloodsplatter to gunshots in post and called it done.

I like Starfield but the game severely bottlenecks your fun at certain points. When you have things to do it’s fun, when you have to search for things to do it isn’t. That’s my take
If you've played Skyrim or Fallout 4 already, you've basically played Starfield. It just feels like Bethesda didn't even try to take any steps forward in changing their formula or innovating whatsoever. It just sucks that they're still suffering from the same issues as a company and a studio since Oblivion, and they've gradually lost that creative edge which at least compensated for all their faults.
I would argue that they actually devolved their formula. In Skyrim or Fallout 4 you had to physically go from the quest giver to the objective, and there was a lot of good stuff to discover on the way, that was the exploration part of the formula that was really enjoyed by a lot of Bethesda fans.
It's all gone in starfield, there is nothing to discover in the menus and loading screens when you go from point A to B.
Starfield is a generic, 2-dimensional RPG with spaceship props. Knew a month before release it was gonna be hot trash. Was very funny seeing all the mindless, consumer-sponge zombies convince themselves it was a proper next-gen experience on launch. Almost feel embarrassed for them. What a bunch of losers.
they really dropped the ball with traveling, if you could actually control the ship and accelerate into light speed that would be fun. fast travel really kills the whole space theme.
I feel ripped off paying 70 bucks for it tbh, but I don't think it's a terrible game. Sam was right when he said it's good if you got time to kill and just kinda wanna mindlessly play something, but I wish I waited and picked it up when it inevitably goes on sale in a few months. I'm pissed because I managed to wait an entire year for Elden Ring to be cheaper before I bought that, and Elden Ring was HANDS DOWN a better game than Starfield.

I think bethesda fans don't know what they want anymore tbh. Half of them say Starfield suffered from having randomly generated shit, then the other half says "should have made Space Daggerfall" daggerfall of which was 90% randomly generated

One thing that doesn't sit well with me about this game is like it takes place in outer space why the fuck is there only humans there's alien animals you can shoot and shit but that's about it I mean shit all the fallout games have something with aliens in them there's no talking aliens or alien species you cant interact with or play as
I played Starfield and as soon as I got out of the tutorial some dude wanted me to get look at trees and that took me out of the game almost immediately. Stopped playing and havent touched it since.

One of the mods you have to add to bethesda games is "lore appropriate heights in game" ie making it so the height differences between races that exist in the books that you can read in game, actually exist. Its been this way since oblivion at least, not sure if morrowind was any different
