  • The art of industrial manufacturing: the Dr. Martens 1460 boot.
    The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line on the 1st April 1960. Our process hasn't changed since that first pair. Meticulous, expert craftsmanship goes into every stitch, punch and seal. Every step is a testament to quality.

    Thank you for watching. For over six decades, Dr. Martens footwear has been adopted and subverted by musicians, subcultures and bold individuals. These people stand out from the crowd - and a pair of DM’s boots or shoes has always accompanied their journey of self-expression.

    Docs are the first thing I ever worked and paid for myself. In 1993 I worked for 2 weeks putting in insulation and hanging paneling to buy my first pair. 26 years later and they are still the only boots I wear. Whenever I lace up in the morning I still think of the hard work that went into that first pair. Doc martens taught me the value of hard work and the satisfaction of earning what you have.

    I went into a DM store in San Francisco last year. I wasn't wearing my Docs at the time (big mistake, I know, I know) and the salesgirl proceeded to tell me about the features of the boots to try to sell me a pair. I had to stop her by telling her that I was wearing DMs before she was born!
    I got my first pair of DMs in 1981. I saw them in pictures of the English punk bands I liked (Discharge, GBH, Exploited, Oi! etc.) They weren't sold in California then, but I bought an old pair from an English kid who went to my high school. I paid the grand total of $5.00! They were pretty thrashed though.
    Since then I've had several different pairs but my favorite will always be the 14 eye 1914s (in black, of course or maybe ox-blood if I'm feeling flashy).
    I splurged on a pair of Made in England 8 eye 1460s a few years ago. They didn't require that "break-in" period; they were soft from day one. It was a good investment, with a bit of polish they still look brand new.
    I want to be buried with them on! 💀🥾🥾

    I wouldn't worry about them being made in Vietnam now, I was stunned how perfect they are. Worn these since 1971 in the UK and have seen the so called made in England ones with flaws, tooling marks etc in the shops. Don't buy online, go to their physical store or schuh and give them a good inspection, if not happy ask to see another pair, they won't mind.

    • @roybaines3181
      @roybaines3181 Před 8 lety

      +Stephen Burd Yes they are and use quilon leather which is stiffer and very slightly thicker, the down side is they are very nearly 2x the cost at £195 currently compared to £105 for original, in either case the soles will wear out long before the uppers on either 1460 boot type. I have an older pair of vintage and 2 pairs of "original" the difference is a personal thing, nobody else notices, If its your first pair I would go for vintage then later try original, you cant get better individual boot style for your feet, hope you enjoy them.

They were $210 and I normally would never spend more than $30 on shoes of any kind but I had to have the original made in england ones, looks like my credit's gonna have to be maxed out again. Have to get them in time for the Crystal Castles concert!

    They have original boots sold on the site made on the original machines in England. They cost a lot more but some people prefer them just because of the authenticity. They still produce originals in the same place they were produced when they first started being made.

    I love my docs, got my first pair 3 years ago this June. And they are the most comfortable stylish boots ive ever had, also extremely durable, my first pair are made in Vietnam and are holding up well on there 3rd year in use, 2nd pair are made in England 1914's and I can certainly tell the differences between them. I believe they now make docs in Thailand and the UK only. Would be nice to see them reopen more UK factories once abroad manufacturing costs rocket. But ive had no issues with any of mine yet. Will never wear another brand for boots again, docs are by far the best :-)
