- The art of industrial manufacturing: the Dr. Martens 1460 boot.
The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line on the 1st April 1960. Our process hasn't changed since that first pair. Meticulous, expert craftsmanship goes into every stitch, punch and seal. Every step is a testament to quality.

Thank you for watching. For over six decades, Dr. Martens footwear has been adopted and subverted by musicians, subcultures and bold individuals. These people stand out from the crowd - and a pair of DM’s boots or shoes has always accompanied their journey of self-expression.

An icon of manufacturing brilliance. Like jeans Docs will never go out of style. Legendary.
Thanks for your support
MAKE THEM ALL IN ENGLAND AGAIN
They went bankrupt in 2003, because of that. Brexit will make things interesting
It is the same process. I have been to Cobbs Lane and seen videos of one of the asian factories.
@@KaLMichaeL but not the same product...iwhy did they go to Asia while a pair of docs is 150euros or more?
@@mikemuller4376 It evolved ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ for the fashion and demand. Capitalism perhaps.
@@mikemuller4376 I suggest that you wait for some sake event at a store that sells them. I got mine for 90$ US
They should name this video: ''how to make a piece of heaven.''
If you call cheap and overpriced footwear heaven then you are pretty stupid
This is like so pleasing to my eyes.
I would now like to see all my shoes being made.
Love the lack of narration and the sounds of making. Just lovely. Great video.
i know im asking randomly but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid lost the login password. I love any help you can give me!
@Allan Torin instablaster :)
@Eli Everett i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Eli Everett it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Allan Torin you are welcome :D
Docs are the first thing I ever worked and paid for myself. In 1993 I worked for 2 weeks putting in insulation and hanging paneling to buy my first pair. 26 years later and they are still the only boots I wear. Whenever I lace up in the morning I still think of the hard work that went into that first pair. Doc martens taught me the value of hard work and the satisfaction of earning what you have.
You have the most filthy animal ever in your name. Shut up, your opinion matters to no-one.
Now I know how my 1460s were born... beautiful work and beautiful boots...Oi! :)
Best boots! I salute the women and men who make the boots thank you for the hardwork!
People made Doc´s n Doc´s made People.
I'am the proud owner of a pair of cherry red Dr martens boots!
I'm so proud of having got your chooses, the people who made them are so invested !
Wow a work of art!!
Putting them on my feet, right now! Love my Docs!!
I loved this video. I own 3 pair and want many more.
Wow, the amount of work it takes just to make a pair. Great to see that something's re still crafted by he, not mass produced. Thanks
This is ... beautiful
I know I'm replying crazy late, but if you go on their site, they have pairs labeled "vintage" and they cost 210 instead of like 130. Those are the ones made in England.
That's so cool !!! I love martens ❤
Brilliant footwear. Brilliant video.
Marvelous. Gives me more appreciation for my various pairs of Doc Martens, some of which are a couple of decades old.
Ditto.
I went into a DM store in San Francisco last year. I wasn't wearing my Docs at the time (big mistake, I know, I know) and the salesgirl proceeded to tell me about the features of the boots to try to sell me a pair. I had to stop her by telling her that I was wearing DMs before she was born!
I got my first pair of DMs in 1981. I saw them in pictures of the English punk bands I liked (Discharge, GBH, Exploited, Oi! etc.) They weren't sold in California then, but I bought an old pair from an English kid who went to my high school. I paid the grand total of $5.00! They were pretty thrashed though.
Since then I've had several different pairs but my favorite will always be the 14 eye 1914s (in black, of course or maybe ox-blood if I'm feeling flashy).
I splurged on a pair of Made in England 8 eye 1460s a few years ago. They didn't require that "break-in" period; they were soft from day one. It was a good investment, with a bit of polish they still look brand new.
I want to be buried with them on! 💀🥾🥾
I really need this kind of masterpiece (Model and style on the video)...Classic Dr Marten's.
gotta love docs!
I still have a black pair made in England and haven't replaced them because they're mainly made overseas now. If they made some more back here I'll have a new pair. Great to see some being made now though - and a lovely video. Nice one DM.
That's fun to see the process to make such a quality product. Very sturdy shoe.
You should send this video to How It's Made with the title "In Terms of "How It's Made Videos" THIS Is How It's Done!" Seriously, I appreciate my Docs so much more after watching this video!
just ordered my pair of docs today!!
Yeah me too been wearing them since I was around 12...My first pair were Oxblood. :)
The Famous Brand Boots with Very Nice Quality ... !!!
I love my docs I wear them all the time.
just got my 1460 docs :)
Love them!
Docs are for life.best shoe wear ever! :)
Incredible!!!
What they aren't saying is that those are the vintage pairs that are made in England.
arrghhh so good to be from england ;)
I wouldn't worry about them being made in Vietnam now, I was stunned how perfect they are. Worn these since 1971 in the UK and have seen the so called made in England ones with flaws, tooling marks etc in the shops. Don't buy online, go to their physical store or schuh and give them a good inspection, if not happy ask to see another pair, they won't mind.
+Roy Baines Their vintage line is made in England I was pleased to learn recently.
+Stephen Burd Yes they are and use quilon leather which is stiffer and very slightly thicker, the down side is they are very nearly 2x the cost at £195 currently compared to £105 for original, in either case the soles will wear out long before the uppers on either 1460 boot type. I have an older pair of vintage and 2 pairs of "original" the difference is a personal thing, nobody else notices, If its your first pair I would go for vintage then later try original, you cant get better individual boot style for your feet, hope you enjoy them.
Beautiful
@reaktordevu I wish they were all still made in England. I guess they are trying to appeal to a wider range of customers, including those that don't care about quality because they change their wardrobe every season.
This is so satisfying
I loved!!
Yep, I just ordered some. They cost twice as much than getting 'em anywhere else. They were $210 and I normally would never spend more than $30 on shoes of any kind but I had to have the original made in england ones, looks like my credit's gonna have to be maxed out again. Have to get them in time for the Crystal Castles concert!
Fascinating.
They have original boots sold on the site made on the original machines in England. They cost a lot more but some people prefer them just because of the authenticity. They still produce originals in the same place they were produced when they first started being made.
this video made me wear my old Marten again
I love to have the classic cherry red without the leather lining on the ankle. Made in England. Where to find them?
Pendant toute la vidéo, j'étais comme ça: O_O
Mon dieu, j'adore les Docs. ♥
How long does the shipping normally take from the official doc martens website
I love my docs, got my first pair 3 years ago this June. And they are the most comfortable stylish boots ive ever had, also extremely durable, my first pair are made in Vietnam and are holding up well on there 3rd year in use, 2nd pair are made in England 1914's and I can certainly tell the differences between them. I believe they now make docs in Thailand and the UK only. Would be nice to see them reopen more UK factories once abroad manufacturing costs rocket. But ive had no issues with any of mine yet. Will never wear another brand for boots again, docs are by far the best :-)
They still make Docs in Vietnam, I just got one myself recently mate
When the sun runs out of hydrogen fuel in 5 billion years, and every last human is long extinct, maybe somewhere, my Doc Martens will live on.
is that a Goodyear Welt used in the sole?
@TheTearingVIKING only black and oxblood come in the 14"s series docs for made in england.
que buen producto!!!
How do you get rid of the squeaky squishy sound.. baby powder did not work
love them :))
but is this happening in Thai and China factories as well?
@reaktordevu They still have a line of shoes and boots made in England. The rest are made elsewhere. Check the website. The Made In England do cost more of course.
awesome
Will a pre-owned sole form to my sole?
Where's this factory?
super a mano, q buenisima onda
this is classic.
