  • In this update on the 1437 Jon Boat Build I detail the process of mounting and wiring up a boat bilge pump and lithium boat battery. Also a bonus testing out a cheap Amazon lithium battery charger.
    The bilge pump I am using is a Better Boat 1100GPH and the lithium batter is a Power Queen 50ah. See below for links to the specific products used in this video and drop a comment below if you found this helpful. Thank you for watching!

    I'm happy to report I've had no issues with the lithium charger, it turned out to be a killer deal for something where it's alternatives are much more expensive. Links to everything in the description. I'm really excited with how everything is going so far! What do you think?

      That’s an awesome deal. Lithium chargers are so high and this one seems to be able to do what I need. I might need one of these. Awesome job on your boats by the way.

      @@ntj030885 Thanks man, I appreciate that! Yeah I was really impressed by this little charger, for the price I wasn't sure what to expect but so far it's treating me well.

    Came here for confirmation if it was any different to wire a boat from lead acid to lithium I see that’s it’s not and came out with a cheaper option in a lithium charger thanks man love your videos have helped me out a lot in this Jon boat build I have on my hands !

    When you explain to old-school boaters that the tiny little 50AH lithium iron-phosphate Power Queen has as many usable amp-hours, with less voltage sag, than they used to get from their 100AH lead-acid/AGM monstrosities, they usually won't believe you. Then you tell them it will charge back up in 1/3 of the time, and won't be damaged if you forget to charge and leave it at 20% SOC for 2 months, plus that battery will last at least 10 years. The only thing you have to watch out for is trying to charge it when the cells are at or below 32 degrees. Other than that, LFP batteries are awesome!

    What size inline fuse do I use for the 1100 gph bilge pump? THX I love your vids, easy to follow, no annoying music and hardly any blah blah blah.

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Před 2 měsíci

      Haha, thanks man. The fuse size for those bilge pumps are 5A-8A. The max draw is around 3.5A.

    Can you or should you leave the suwer battery charger on the battery for extended lengths of time like during the winter months? thank again for your valuable time!

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes you can, its waterproof and a trickle charger so it will maintain as well as charge.

    I have a Better Boat Bilge pump and BB 3 way switch. There are 3 wires coming from pump: Wht/Brn (auto) Brn (manual) and Blk (neutral/grd). The install diagram shows where each color wire plugs into switch. The install diagram shows a place on switch where the pos lead from battery plugs into switch. Diagram shows where neg lead from battery plugs in. Now I have the Blk wire from pump with no place to plug in. Please Advise Thank you sooo much!

      Black wire goes to the battery.

    I have another question if you can stand it. How do you attach the drain hose to the bilge pump? thx again for your sage advice!

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Před měsícem

      @@gambels1 that's an easy one, it just pushes on! Make sure the diameter for the hose matches the outlet diameter on the bilge.

    I want to put my starting battery beneath my middle bench seat. How can I extend my mercury battery cables that are 4 gauge to the bench seat safely?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Před 5 měsíci

      What I used for extending thick gauge water was an underground splice kit. Its basically a block you screw down each end to with very thick and durable heat shrink.

    enjoy ur videos! little off topic but i just got my first jon boat. it has an 2 stroke motor 15power. the motor doesn’t start always and if it does it looks like it’s overheating. what kind of maintenance is needed? any help is appreciated!

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Carb for sure, overheating make sure it's peeing and if not change impeller

  • @tonymleitao

    why would you need a switch if the pump can automatically turn on?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Because pumps can get jammed with debris or just not work sometimes. Having a manual switch is a safety redundancy.
