I'm an ESL teacher, and let me tell you that for only 2 years of studying, that monk's level of English is really impressive. He has great control of basic grammatical structures and tenses, even the past perfect, which wouldn't be expected yet. He correctly uses infinitives, prepositions of time and adverbs of frequency, connectors like "so" and "because" and "but", discourse markers like "Actually", "you know" and "Like", and alternative forms of the verb To Be such as "There were". He has a wide range of vocabulary when talking about familiar situations. His pronunciation is only lacking when tries to produce sounds specific sounds, like the "juh" sound at the end of knowleDGE, and he repeats certain phrases a lot, but is otherwise 100% intelligible. Overall, I'd rate his English as a low/mid intermediate level, something which most students require 3-4 years to achieve. The fact that he has achieved this level by studying along in his free time is very impressive. Great work!
Life changing experience also for me! I will always look back to this incredible conversation! I am so happy that I kept recording and didnt just stop once the monk approached us :D
Same here. Had I been in your guys' position, I'd have turned the camera off the moment I saw him approaching, instead of capturing this wholesome moment. Would be too worried I was disrespecting the temple in some way or something haha.
Loved the conversation with the monks, it's really incredible how much knowledge and access the internet can provide these people, to be able to learn an entire language that well from youtube videos in only 2 years. It's great to see the internet being used to bring people together and expand their knowledge.
Absolutely, if you want more insight into how specifically that language “acquisition” happens, I suggest looking up immersion learning/input hypothesis and the linguist Stephen Krashen. Due to life experiences being open about my sexuality and gender has always been hard so seeing that there's acceptance even in a little temple in laos really put a smile on my face! This is really surprising to me as well. I doubt Buddhists see it as completely morally acceptable and it might be a cautious question because they saw two guys traveling. I’ve been lucky enough to travel as well and I can relate to @15:40 .. there’s something about having a conversation with someone from a completely different culture and knowing with near 100% certainty that you will never see them again. It’s almost like people lose any social anxiety and immediately begin talking about their outlook on life, happiness, importance, and the human condition. The irony is that, in most cases, no matter how different your cultures are, the answers are always the same. Friends, family, and community. These encounters are by far my favorite thing about traveling.

I'm not in a position to donate, as a 17 year old I don't really have a good method of donating, but Ngonkham is amazing, and I hope to see him in the future fulfilling his dreams. This is the other side of life that isn't seen very often, just people, living day by day, working on themselves and doing other things. As I said before, I hope Ngonkham finds success, as well as anyone there, as they are the ones that have to work for it and not give up, unlike the millionares and billionares in the media and news that had a strong headstart in the vast majority of cases. I also have a small idea into what happens in South Asia, as my uncle has a girlfriend from Thailand, and she is similar to them, just living their lives in wherever they can manage to get themselves on their own or maybe through family, it gives another perspective that is interesting and inspiring to see, as they are the ones that truly work for themselves and must motivate themselves.
Im so taken back by how good that monk was at English. He didnt even have a noticable accent, thats really incredible. Massive respect to him, and he was so friendly as well

I came back here to watch this a second time because I was so inspired by how hardworking and dedicated these monks were! They inspired me to get up and do the chores that I usually find incredibly difficult to motivate myself to do. A bit of lunch and then I will buckle down and study! These monks were truly spreading the name of their temple by spreading happiness with their open, inquisitive, and humble natures. A very pure human interaction. I've been asked a lot about my dreams and I usually answer for the job I really wanted, but not more of what i've always wanted to do. Traveling the whole world and seeing it on people's eyes is just fulfilling. I wish I had the chance to do it too at some point. Thank you trevor for seeing and appreciating the other side of not having the ease or opportunity to do these things. It was beautiful.

This was so good, I wish you guys could keep updating on him and his journey. I do want to say as someone with similar goals (I also learned English just on the internet) that aside from giving him the money, you should help him manage it. I know he’s a monk so o bet he will be better than most people with his money, but when people that haven’t had much money get a lot of it, they find themselves in trouble sometimes.

This conversation was amazing to see, its a special thing to be able to talk with people from other cultures and backgrounds and see how even besides our diffeents how we can still relate to so many things and connect with people. This type of conversations dont happen to often in life, but one cannot measure how meaningful they really are

Wow, I really enjoyed this video and yeah you’re absolutely right, there’s lots of things that we have and take them for granted, while there’s people out there who desperately need them. Really inspirational Rainbolt!!!
This must be the best video i have ever seen. Just the pure respect and love you show for each other is truly amazing. Something that everyone can learn from.
Thank you so much for making this video. It changed my perspective and he is truly inspiring. Keep making content like this.
That monk is cute and open minded.. dude you're doing just fine, never been outside Laos and so knowledgeable . Loved this vlog
Such a wholesome human interaction, beautiful video Trevor. Thanks for sharing :)
Such a special encounter and conversation, thank you for sharing this.
You guys make it just naturally easy to get in on all your content, support and root for 😊. Geoguessr skills totally aside, i just see two genuine dudes showing genuine interest in other countries, cultures and its people and just being wholesome all the way.
Thats who you wanna root for and we will 😎
This was awesome. First non geoguessr content of yours I’ve watched but love this kind of content too. What a wholesome experience
Awesome mind and body!
May all his dreams come true. The world needs more of such beautiful souls.
You can easily donate, it’s a matter of if you’re willing to donate.

@@RyeziHD So weird to assume his financial situation
You are only 17. You are Ngonkham.
Thailand is Southeast Asia.
Really wholesome conversations with the monks. Their English is surprisingly really good! Keep up the great content king
I have watched so many videos with all different content and I have to say that this video is my favorite of all time!! Thank you for this!!
Im so taken back by how good that monk was at English. He didnt even have a noticable accent, thats really incredible. Massive respect to him, and he was so friendly as well
Love this! Thanks for letting us peek in on the adventure
istg people who live in less developed areas are always such a pleasure to be with. they are like the kindest and most generous people in the world, and they genuinely want to know more about you. it warms my heart so much :")
This video made me so incredibly emotional. What seems like a random conversation between some guys is so much more than that. Thank you for sharing experiences like that with us and letting us be a part of your travels Trevor :)
The monks that you met turned that into a very emotional feeling, I loved it ! 🙏
I hope the monks that subscribed can see this video and the lovely comments and realize the positive impact they have had on strangers. I hope all of them can accomplish all of their goals and find what they are seeking in life. ຂອບໃຈ
Loved this video, filled me with happiness. Thank you Rainbolt!!!!!!!
Wow. I needed that, I didn't know I did but I did. It was honestly so inspiring.
If Ngonkham ends up making a CZcams channel, blog or something, do let us know! He and the monks seem like such great people! 😁
man, that's so wholesome. He looks so excited talking to you guys and sharing his experiences
this is really really cool thank you for showing these super cool monks. they're all so calm and grateful it's really inspiring!
I’ve only played geoguessr a few times, but you have become my favorite content creator on the platform, absolutely loving the new travel content too. You just seem so genuine and enjoy the little things in life, it’s contagious. Massive respect for what you’re doing to help Ngonkham achieve his dreams, RAINBOLT is for the people.
This was so good, I wish you guys could keep updating on him and his journey.
I do want to say as someone with similar goals (I also learned English just on the internet) that aside from giving him the money, you should help him manage it. I know he’s a monk so o bet he will be better than most people with his money, but when people that haven’t had much money get a lot of it, they find themselves in trouble sometimes.
honestly this is grade a content that is in sync with the theme of the channel, not only discovering places on maps but irl
This is incredible. Ngonkham seems like such a hard worker, and everyone seems so friendly there. I think you both brought a ton of joy to each other that day. Would love to visit Laos one day - I hope they all achieve their dreams!
I’ve been so much into geography and just other cultures in general recently and man this was an awesome video!! It’s inspiring. Hopefully I can do the same as you and Kodiak and get to see some of the world. Keep up the great content Trevor!
what a fun video to watch. you really do inspire me to get out into the world and meet these incredibly chill and cool people from around the world! keep this stuff coming :D
Videos like this give me big time faith in humanity... Wish there were more of these. Inspiring! 🙏🏼
I love how different cultures have such different reactions. It's so beautiful to see how people from Laos are very silent yet calm about their reactions
This conversation was amazing to see, its a special thing to be able to talk with people from other cultures and backgrounds and see how even besides our diffeents how we can still relate to so many things and connect with people. This type of conversations dont happen to often in life, but one cannot measure how meaningful they really are
absolutely love these videos! laos is such a beautiful country
Man the guy saying that he learned english by himself on CZcams cuz he didnt had the money to pay a english class is wholesome, really nice to hear. I appreciate anyone who shares its knowledge properly for free on internet, if wasn't by them I definitely would not know many things, specially volleyball. shotout to Coach Donny from elevate yourself, ty very much for everything.
Thank you. That was so refreshing. And inspirational ❤️🇨🇦
Who else is waiting for 7 years for the reunion?!
@@ghostytheprolol see u there brother
This is the most wholesome video i have seen between a westerner and a local i have ever seen
That didn't come off like a first conversation in a foreign language.
Damn this really made my day. Thank you for sharing!
wow what great people and conversation. thanks so much to you and Kodiak for sharing it with us!
This video is so amzing. Really love just watching you socialize with the Lao people
Honestly, this was probably the nicest, most inspirational thing I have seen in a while. I truly loved it. Also, wow, that writing is actually great.
You two were the perfect people for those monks to meet.
The monks are such sweet and open minded people. I do wish them the best of luck especially the one who wants to learn English and bought a book from his willingness to learn.
What an amazing video this is, thanks so much for publishing this.
Donations rising faster then this video's views haha! Great video!
Good luck Kidang, Kai, Ngonkham and all the other monks!
So inspiring, he spoke amazingly for his very first go! I am so motivated by his spirit and attitude it makes me not want to give up and keep striving for my own goals. He would make a great friend!
We need more genuine conversations between different cultures here on youtube. Learning about other cultures is so fascinating, I absolutely loved the monks! They were so nice, and positive.
Had to donate. He has the same dream as me, no way someone with a mindset like that can only stay in his small bubble. So happy for the guy and thanks for making this happen for him.
The interactiion with the monks did not go anything like how I expected it would go. Very cool conversation and great curiosity shown by all :)
this is such a good video, i love this type of content man
Love seeing your adventures man!
Thank you for sharing this once in a lifetime experience. I will be donating and praying he achieves what he desires.
aw those monks are so open. they asked if they have a boyfriend or girlfriend and not girlfriend right away
I love how those monks took the opportunity to practice their English and learn about your experiences traveling the world. They were not just being kind they were really excited about getting to know you. Really awsome guys.
