  • Well I did a thing, I got my tractor stuck really good this time! This is not fake, and it makes me sad that I even have to say this in the description. But I have been accused of staging this video. Wow the nerve of people.

Amazing you get that stuck in that all that mud that's amazing that you could get that pulled out wanted to say that you should get Straps Straps to know how to use straps instead of chain steps will really be the way to go when you pull heavier equipment Chain will help you not have that front end pulling against yours steering and columns and the frame of the tractor so anyways just just a sign of having straps is a lot better the strength is better and nothing gets bent and stressed out with straps, Mike

I am new to the channel. I have subscribed. You are not stupid. Breakdowns, getting stuck, etc., is part of farming. The retrieval is the fun part. Molly you do an excellent job putting the videos together. I have been watching older videos which are fun to watch. You do a nice job editing and narrating. Y'all are the first potato operation I have ever seen. Lived in the Portland OR metro area for 35 years. Retired and left. Yankum ropes uses a nylon braid sheath with an internal core of strait nylon cords. You can drive forward on a slack line, The line stretches and uses the stored kineic energy pops stuck equipment right out. While in college a contract farmer drove a brand new steiger into the cattails, That is stupid. It took a D8 cat and two other high HP tractors to pull it out of the cattails.

I'm a big fan of the Yankum ropes now. Back in the day the manure spreader wagon would get stuck, same time in spring, ground still wet and soggy. we'd unhook wagon and get tractor out on dry land, then hook chains together and drag it out. usually emptied manure first make it lighter. Been right were you are kiddo!

When using any tow device, either rope or chain, it’s a good practice to throw a coat or blanket over the middle section. Just in case(heaven forbid) the chain breaks, the coat will diminish its momentum and prevent damage. I saw a heavy cable break once, and it missed someone’s head by mere inches, and wound up taking out half a wall on the end of a small barn.

I am surprised that the small chain you used didn't break. I have switched to 100% synthetic rope to replace all chains and cables that we used for towing and vehicle rescue work. The synthetic rope is lighter in weight, easier to lug around, doesn't rust, it is much stronger, and most importantly, it doesn't whip lash when it breaks. I would look into synthetic rope.

@@BellsFarming Always a good idea to fix something along the towing line, whether chain, strop, cable or rope to act as a whiplash brake. Spare wheel, tarp etc. Multiples for such a long chain. Well worth taking a training course on this as you're on soft land.

When you make an oops, you do it right! To be honest I drove off road in a mixer and dump for years. Quite often we just wouldn't go off road if it was iffy, but I've been stuck before and sandy soil like that is more unpredictable than most of the soil around Ohio. It looks dry or stays damp and if the ground underneath is soaked you drop like a rock. You can't stop and back out so I feel for you but it won't be the last time!

Every farmer wants to plow earlier than their neighbor, but not so early as to have their neighbors see them get stuck! You'll have to mark those wet spots on your GPS map of the field for future reference. I had much smaller tractors, but always took planks, a shovel and a jack to extricate my tractor. You did a great job of managing wheel slip on the extraction part.
