Props to AJ to giving respect to the smaller racing teams. I can understand his frustration, though.

If he hates race ing. do something else. Your just going in round in circles
@@davidbarber2010 he’s saying he hates superspeedways
@@davidbarber2010 AJ has been facing for years he’s not new he knows how to drive
It’s shit racing. It’s obvious that NASCAR isn’t willing to build a car can race well on a super speedway, so why not get rid of Daytona and Talladega? Level the track and build a badass road course, a short track, and dirt track and maybe even a drag strip and amphitheater in its place.
Wow, there was a time I really didn't care for AJ. Honestly, not sure why. He's REALLY grown on me in the last couple years and this interview was so brutally honest (yet respectful). I've come to really respect this driver.
The only driver who makes Xfinity fun again besides Austin and Chase Briscoe.😔
At one time I didn't think he could win a race. But he has won a couple races and has grown on me.
@@Gokywildcats11 he’s won more than a couple lol
He is one helluva road course driver that is for sure!!!
AJ not my favorite driver but one of the underdogs I always pull for. Love is honesty at the end Dale earnhardt felt the same way.
AJ Allmendinger is a good man. He is also seemingly the most genuine guy maybe in the sport.

@@mediajunkie5150 Me too. He nearly won a few years back when "The Captain" gave him a ride in the Indianapolis 500. It was just a fluke that took AJ out of contention, but he made the most of it and did finish the race.
@@Runtz650 They really did and it was a dam* shame what happened to AJ at the time. (To his credit he learned his lesson and IMO became a much better man for it. I feel that's why he is so respected now.)
I used to really dislike AJ. But I respect the hell out of him now. He’s quickly becoming one of the elder statesman in NASCAR.
Yesterday at Clash practice just proved your point!
"I absolutley hate this type of fucking racing." Anyone who watched religiously in the '80s and '90s felt that.
I never missed a race except for a couple during camping trips, 87'-2001. And those I listened to on MRN LOL
It's true. You look from the late 80s and all thru the 90s and still about 30-40% of the race teams were small team or owner/driver teams. Once the 2000s hit it became all about the $$$
That glare he had afterwards says it all.
@@elconquistador932 same here but I started probably around 83-84 season. Then when I was in the Air Force they’d send me here and there so I started recording them on the vcr on EP mode. Lol
@@skeezix8156 LMAO, that's cool. I like viewing those old races from back then when someone throws them on CZcams. Some really good memories and some real rough ones too.
I installed those huge C Band satellite systems throughout the rockies back then. I always had three or four systems that I scabbed together from the trade in's. Neighbors just loved seeing several 7 and 10 foot dishes strun around the yard. Wild feed Channels were the best, listening to the announcers unedited during commercials was always a highlight for me. Plus they reviewed a ton of video during commercial feeds and analyzed things then. Other sports too.
Side note: I also got to see the LA riots as they happened, un edited via wild feed. Amazing what they didn't show us. We also had a guy in our crew that sold illegal descramblers. Lmao. Those were the days!
Man I really like AJ. I hope he wins this championship. Glad he said what he said.
I love Clements for Most Popular Driver for NXS side
Wow, a driver expressing how he feels without NASCAR filters.
I used to like plate racing years ago when you could still have long green runs and most of the cars still running. These days it’s just a glorified demolition derby and I wholeheartedly agree with AJ
It’s always had been, it’s part of the sport
@@andosrailway2369 No. Watch Bill Elliott in the 80s. Set the track record at Talladega. 20 mph faster than it is now. However, cars didn't race in a pack. You could go 215 and not need someone pushing you. Less down force forces you to lift in the corners.
AJ is good people - and loved the ending - he's absolutely right and honest.
One of the most well rounded interviews. All of the positivity with a huge dose of reality.
One of the best drivers out there, kept his cool and ended the interview with a true comment. Would love to see a comparison of total purse for this race, vs total cost of wrecked equipment!
That's a true race driver right there,,hold your head up brother you are a badass.

@@mattthacker9120 and least you could still fill your gas tank while smoking a cigarette 😆
@@mattthacker9120 I attended all those NASCAR races back in the day. Today we have the woke version of NASCAR where every team has to be equal. Gone are the days of brilliant Crew Chiefs and Mechanics who weave their magic to get a few more horsepower and finer tuned suspensions to give them the winning edge. Back in the 60's and 70's the grandstands were packed, but no more! They don't even want you to wave a Rebel Flag! Unfortunately NASCAR 2022 is almost like the NFL and NBA!
@@wythetrumpet6419 Muh flag.
I hate the racing at this type of track. The biggest thing that kills it for me is the stages and restarts. If you want to award points at a certain lap great but we don't need a yellow and a restart. It takes some of the strategy out of the race vs if it went green.
It adds strategy.
You can have stages, or phantom cautions like we had for decades. You get them either way, this way at least every team can create a plan for them.
I don’t think that’s the problem. These idiots start destroying each other’s stuff with only a few laps to go. Then after that they just start wrecking over and over and over.
Racing? Remember the old figure 8 tracks if you are to young you might find it on CZcams or Google
@@tankerboysabot no all it does is make the race boring until the final stage and even then everyone is usually on the same strategy because of the stages mostly the drivers who have a good enough car to make it through the field pit before the end of every stage making the racing dull and bland we at least had good racing before the stages and this version of what I still call the chase but now there is no reason to win or be consistent once the chase begins if you're in the top 4 or 5 you usually have a ticket to the round of eight
Just hope everybody makes it home safe tomorrow...
When a driver says they’re just happy to come away from a race alive, you know something has to change.
But this level of racing is always full of ‘beginners’ and has always been a wreck fest…
Creed's car during one of the crashes had its right side smashed inward by Graf hard. Cringing at how the roof bent upward.
Like what lol? Racing is dangerous and those cars and extremely safe compared to 30 years ago.
@@jackburton7062 I think he means eliminating the "stage" racing. The only point to stages is to bunch the field back up which in turn makes a massive and potentially deadly wreck that much more likely. Plus it takes away from the races authenticity. Makes the action kinda fabricated.
@@rickr442 Mark Martin said the same exact quote...minus the profanity...after winning the cup race at Talladega.

AJ; you're a CLASS ACT! Honest comments about the winner; honest comments about your dislike for restrictor racing. 👍
Didn't know what they were talking about until you mentioned restrictor races. So thanks . Actually all motors are restricted horsepower, and that's why there is so many winners. But there are so many great drivers as well. Was hoping for a little amount of crashes. The drivers should have an option to skip 3 races that way it should make a lot of drivers happy. It's rough being crammed in in a fast speed like that.
Cool win for Clements and his family own team. Right place at the right time. 2nd Xfinity win for Jeremy.
How to end an interview 101. Nice job. Gave us something to talk about and from someone in a position of off-track success in media, as well.
The Xfinity racing has been awesome this year. I'm so glad that kid won, his family was jacked! 🤪
I quit watching and just watch clips here and there, but from what little I've seen. Nascar hasn't been "awesome", in over a decade.
@@getinit56 how's a 300 lap race gonna seem awesome in a few clips here and there? Try watching a cup race, I stopped watching NASCAR for a long time as well but have not missed a race with the next gen car. I genuinely believe NASCAR can start growing again because of it
@@speedsanti I turned my TV service off completely in 2012. I'm not supporting any of it. Really like AJ. Love to hear a driver speak from the heart.
You could practically overlay his comments on top of Mark Martin's or Smoke's comments about Daytona and they'd sound identical.
Many times AJ is kinda "wordy" with his answers but his reply to the final question "Are you satisfied ...?" I absolutely LOVE his honesty.
Way to go AJ, tell it the way it is. Open wheel fans miss you but glad you've made a good career in NASCAR. Yeah what we used to call restrictor plate racing at Daytona and Talladega is a joke - the drivers hate it but sadly many are only there to see "the big one".
Class act! Glad to a local guy with a small team win!
It isn’t the cars or the track. It’s the drivers. I’ve been watching this sport for decades. It’s isn’t the car or the track that’s blocking or causing the wrecks.
True...but in all honesty they’ve been forced into this because of NASCAR,they make the rules, they have done everything they can to make it “pack racing” with the restrictor plates,or tapered spacers as they call it now, that combined with stage racing is a recipe for crashes because nobody can get away from each other so this is what we have
@@bassrob88 The rules that NASCAR has in place are the owners fault. The owners went to them a few years ago and wanted them to help control the costs. So them spec. parts and this car was born.
Love your videos man thanks for posting these! It’s hard to find these interviews a lot of times and I’m sure tons of others, along with myself, really appreciate the constant posts.
That’s a open wheel racer for ya. Just happy to be in one piece man
Hats off to AJ for speaking highly of smaller teams who do keep NASCAR alive. Hats off for saying how he feels about this type of racing… sure he’ll be penalized for speaking truth.
Carl Edwards was correct in saying the new style of stage racing sucks, it truly does. Had Dale not gotten killed in 01, this shit wouldn’t be happening today !!!

Love ❤️ AJ! He’s a class act! I believe he deserved better than he got in the past
There was a time when Superspeedway racing while dangerous still not as crazy, such as the early 2000s some Talladega races in which there were no cautions or Daytona races in which there would be one big one but the rest of the race was fine, now it's just everyone going for it no matter what.
Yeah, and it’s not all the drivers fault. This is what nascar wants. Stages causes them to race for points that shouldn’t be gifted in the first place and then they throw 2 bs cautions a race to bunch them back up in hopes that they wreck. If that’s not what they’re for then what are they for? Plate tracks are just nascar finding new commercial material after there’s 6 pileups a race. I know it’s a part of this kind of racing, but it’s been made a lot worse by stages, not letting drivers lock bumpers, etc
@@patrickgray9652 they are still allowed to lock bumpers in cup, no? Forgive my ignorance, I haven’t watched NASCAR in a couple years. All the clownery finally killed my interest completely. When I stopped watching xfinity and truck weren’t allowed to lock bumpers but it was allowed in cup.
@@NizRacingNY Yes they are allowed, but because of how this car was made it makes it a lot harder to stay together. Even the gen 6 due to a smaller radiator couldn't stay locked.
@@soul-heart ahh right I do remember that being the case with the gen 6 now that you mention it, thanks!
I have to agree with him. With a "winner take all" "if you ain't first, you're last" mentality there has been a total lack of respect among drivers, especially at super speedways. It is GOING to get someone KILLED eventually, mark my words.
with Kurt's condition, I really fear for someone getting killed tomorrow 😬 lets hope everything goes fine
It’s always been dangerous. It’s always been like this. If you don’t like this, go watch F1 or something. Maybe go karts will be safe enough for you. Or badminton.
@@ZaxCal it’s always been dangerous yes, but this car (next gen running tomorrow) is notably less safe than the previous design, so it has some people worried. Myself included.
Absolutely man. Nascar makes their money off of wrecks. As long as they see green, they won't care what the teams see. Someone will have to die before they see this
@@thetechfromheaven no matter what people can get injured no matter if you do everything to stop it, it's always a possibility, they build these cars safe and have no reason to degrade the safety and get someone killed

Gotta respect this guy, He Gets It !
Its not the speed that's dangerous its the tight pack. Its a nightmare and impossible to sustain. Get rid of the cautions for the stages and let them lock bumpers. They will spread out a little more. I know thats not what the blood sport fans want but too bad. The fastest 2 or 3 cars would win and not the luckiest.
Real bloodsport fans like me would have these guys doing 240-250 into the corner by now, at minimum, not speeds that would get you put down 20 laps 35 years ago in an uninterrupted race lol. watching modern cars limp around like glaciers doing 180 on a glorified airstrip isn't very interesting unless they're all separated by a few sheets of paper
The fact is these tracks were obsolete without accepting the bloodsport aspect of it over 30 years ago
Damn he was on the real at the end. They’re playing with these guys’ health for entertainment value. It’s like the nfl. Disgusting.

@@arwyss that’s my point I haven’t watched sense they changed the rules
Best decision Carl Edwards made was to leave NASCAR. He saw the shitshow it was becoming with playoffs and stages and said to hell with this fake "wreck to win" racing. Massive props to him
Yeah my thoughts exactly, I had come up with about ten reasons why Carl left back then...I just believe Carl thought at what cost do I need to do this with all of the ridiculous racing that comes with the playoff format.
It's pathetic - and it's not coming back - the hillside area where I used to lay down a blanket and kick back with my cooler and enjoy the weekend at Bristol is long gone having been replaced by seats - many of them empty now -
I've never been a fan of the playoff racing all it does is create more danger for the drivers!. And now we have a car in the cup series that should be on a road course not super speedways and short tracks!, when you have to downshift on an oval your taking steps backwards.
If you don’t like it quit watching. You wont though so stop whining.
@@davidrice3337 come on, are you really complaining that they added more seats during a time where they were needing more seats? Yes I understand it was probably fun watching on a hill but come on
I don't like superspeedway racing these days and race cars getting wrecked for the sake of entertainment is one of the worst, after Newman had that terrible wreck at Daytona I have been very upset at the checkers or the wreckers mentality. There isn't anyone trying to bring the car home in one piece. They just feel like they can build another.
Don't let teams build more than 4 cars ( one for supers, intermediatea, shorts, and road courses ) you won't see so many of them wrecking because they would be on the crunch to convert another vehicle for that spec. Or risk their intermediate car at say dega

To put AJ's comment into perspective, I remember the Great Mark Martin absolutely Hated racing at both Daytona and Talladega as well. AJ like Mark before him knew that pack racing at these two Superspeedways almost always became a 200mph "Demolition Derby." Annual trips to the Daytona 500, the Glen as I live nearby, Michigan, Pocono, Dover, Charlotte, the Brickyard. Guess what? My money stays right in my pocket now. I don't even go to the Glen anymore and it's only an hour away. Oh! I almost forgot. No more paying 3 times the normal price for a motel room. So.....I'm going to our local dirt track tonight to see some real racing and some real racers instead of $100,000 dollar demo
derby cars driven by snot nosed little rich kids who look like they should be running a library. I totally agree with AJ. Stage racing and their playoff system has turned it into a wreck or win deal since the cars are expendable and so much pressure is put on the drivers who can't handle it. This new car isn't helping. Sports car tires on a stock car with a center lug nut. Air diffusers that prevent you from just picking up a wreck and towing it away. Really Nascar. I'll be eating some dirt tonight.

He's probably the most experienced driver in the sport when it comes to different disciplines of racing. I'd listen to the guy. Gen 4 and earlier was much safer due to them not having to be inches apart for 4 hours at 200mph. But people have been saying this for a decade.
Basically he'd rather be on another race course than race Daytona, since he's such a beast at those type of races.
That and Daytona is more dangerous than a typical road course.
I used to look forward to superspeedway racing… now I dread them. It always becomes a sh*t show in the final stage and I absolutely hate it. These races are no longer races… they’re full on demo derbies at this point. The combination of the playoffs, the “win and you’re in” system, stage racing, etc. has caused drivers to completely lose respect for one another and resulted in this awful “racing.” The addition of TWO MORE superspeedway races at Atlanta and possibly more in the near future with Texas certainly doesn’t help.
Ask Dale Sr. how he likes racing Daytona.
or Dale Jr for that matter.
He’s right. Undeserving drivers winning by ladder ain’t racing
This won't change until one of two things happen: 1)a "contender" (championship level) driver/s park their cars and refuse to participate in these glorified demolition derbys or 2) a fan/driver is killed. NASCAR doesn't care about safety. You can't have this style of racing and claim to give half a thought toward safety.
It’s been about the crashes more than the racing for a while
@@Walkeranz
Unfortunately, the wrecks are what everyone comes to see. It’s all about the excitement and who and how many will be in the big one(s) during this race!!! I mean, just look at Austin Dillon and the wreck he had just a couple years ago where his car rolled/spun along the catch fence for a 100 yards or more and then Brad Keslowski just completely obliterates him, knocking the whole engine and transmission out of the car, while he is just coming to a rest at the end of the straightaway. How it the world Dillion was able to get out of the care and walk away under his own power is still a mystery to me!!! And then just 2 years ago, I believe, when Ryan Newman went for a wild ride himself and then while rolling over and over, gets hit right on the roof and right in the top of the driver compartment which hospitalized Newman for a few days and he said himself that he doesn’t remember the wreck. So, that is 2 very near death wrecks at this track in the last 7/8 years and it just pains me to say it but these super speedway race tracks is bound to take the life of another driver before it’s all said and done. Dale Earnhardt in 2001 was the last driver killed at Daytona and I honestly hope not but I’m just afraid that there will be another driver death here sometime in the future unless NASCAR does something, I have absolutely no clue what they would do, to prevent it.
NASCAR really "dodged a bullet" with the horrific finish line crash of Ryan Newman a couple years ago.
Dale was killed and they still go back to theses type tracks
Nobody is going to sit out , racing is racing every body races on the same track , fans have always complained about the rules, always will ,I have raced short dirt tracks when I was a young man , it was war , but I did win,, took my daughter to a paved track she met a young female driver, I still have the shirt my daughter received with it signed,, in the first heat two male drivers pushed her into the wall on purpose and almost killed that young girl, my daughter held her hand as she was being put in the ambulance, we talked about it on the way home , my daughter said you have to teach me how to avoid that wreak,,, racers are racers
I rather see a 3 wide race to the finish then some of these hard wrecks we get at Daytona, Talladega, and now Atlanta...I guess nervous just watching, I cant imagine the drivers and their teams what they must feel...unfortunately that is what we get with superspeedway racing..
Thats what i love about AJ!!! He's real as they get go #16!!!
He speak his mind and says the truth that's why I got respect for him .
Tremendous respect for him.
Nascar sucks. I mean yeah I'd be over the moon to drive one of those cars, but if you're talking about the guys that actually do the Sport died with the "PLAYOFFS" format. It should have stayed with the Winston Cup Format aka points based on finish, and 5 points if you led a lap, and 5 points if you led the most laps. Stupidity has killed the Sport
Right on, Rusty Shakleford!
Good job AJ!!!
I see all these comments about how or what NASCAR racing has become & I agree with the majority of them. I wish I had hope that NASCAR would or could fix it but I don’t. Every time they try to fix or make racing better they (NASCAR) just digs the hole a little deeper. They keep fixing a sport that wasn’t broke except for some safety issues that have been dealt with. I don’t know how you can make drivers any safer in the car itself. They’re strapped in so tight & have every device known to the safety industry they can possibly have. So being safe in the car is probably as good as it can get. Saying all that, there was a time when NASCAR racing was absolutely fun to watch. So why can’t NASCAR see this?!!! I wish NASCAR would take all their safety Technology & go back to the racing that fans loved to watch @ pretty much all the tracks. Back to when the fastest cars & best drivers won & finished in the top 10.
I want to say, “NASCAR PLEASE FIX THIS” but I don’t know if they have a clue on how to do so or even the desire to do so cause it would mean they’d have to take their politics out of it. And they wouldn’t have as much control over who finishes or doesn’t finish upfront. Doesn’t seem like the fans are really a consideration anymore. It seems like NASCAR is politically driven now more than anything else.
Screw all this purposeful starting & stopping & please don’t add another rule. It’s to the point that it’s almost to exasperating to watch & try to keep up with all the rules/another rule of NASCAR.
Was he referring to Dayton and Dega in particular when he said "this racing"?
You joined the circus, AJ. This is part of the show.
AJ is a class act and a damn good race car driver!

Kyle Busch has been saying this for years, but he whines so much it gets lost in the noise.

Love you AJ, we'll said about this racing
Man I wish this guy would get a full-time competitive cup ride. He's so easy to like and pull for. And he's one of the most naturally talented drivers out there.
great answer! 190mph for 3 hours straight inches apart pushing the car in front while you are being pushed from behind in a pack of 40 cars doing the same thing..
AJ is such a classy guy.
