Ross just did the biggest thing in the last 20 years to grow Nascar. He did a move that an entire generation of young guys used in racing games in real life.
I tell you
I've never watched a nascar race
But i do love my motorsports
But damn, that overtake really gives you goosebumps everytime you see it
@@RENO_K exactly. See, this proves it. People who normally wouldn't be watching NASCAR are watching this. That was legendary. And will go down in the history books especially with the way he moved on the standings because of it. He had to be in that position to advance and he made it happen.

Straight out of a movie bro LMAO 😂 You gotta love how you also got POV’s of the people he passed and they are just as shocked if not more 🤣 like the scene when the main character reaches deep and pulls it out the bag in front of everyone 😭

This dude probably holds a new record for most fans gained with a single move. Impressive.

I Agree totaly Man
Definitely, nobody would have thought that this was possible.I've been a Nascar fan for 50 years and Never saw a move like this. This move could only happen on a half mile track like Martinsville for one or two laps without blowing a tire or both tires.Still wonder if it would work without the soft walls?Great move just the same.👍👍👍

They’ve chase Elliot pov at 1:25 is pretty crazy
I disagree. The 3:00 one (once you know where to spot him) lets you clearly see his speed relative to everyone else, and visually track all 5 cars he passes.

You could tell even the 11 was begrudgingly impressed
I love how nobody cared about the race winner and all the attention was on ross lol

9:14 this moment reminds me of in Pixar's cars when (coincidentally in nascar aswell) when the green guy won the race and is celebrating but everyone's looking this guy
for me, what I took away the most from this transcending moment, not only watching something done within the rules of the racecar world, or sporting domain - it is a very inspirational to see someone risk making decisions vs. not trying at all. If Ross performed this move and failed, and lost to the 11 car by a nose - I would still be blown away by the move and tipping my hat for the attempt, the fact he pulled it off is absolutely amazing. It is something that resonates for everyone - in our daily lives, jobs, family, and whatever - we all should be inspired by this.
Every grown man watching NASCAR this weekend turned into a kid again for a few minutes thanks to Ross. Unbelievable move. Legend.
I can’t remember it being this exciting since I was watching with my dad on Sunday in th late 80s (Neil bonnet was still alive )
Truth!
@@nicolep7241 He basically just said fuck it and drove the car into the wall, hit the highest gear he had, and let the car drive itself around the track. Because Martinsville is such a short, paper clip shaped track, drivers usually have to go very slow around the turns, and because of that, Chastain’s car was just that much faster riding the wall, and he was able to go around five of them. It badly damaged the car, so it’s something that would only be attempted in this specific last lap scenario, and luckily for him it paid off.
Grown men aren't watching this joke.
No lie I've been watching since I was 5. My girl had just come home from work and was like what are you yelling about?! Coolest thing I've ever seen in all my years watching
This guy singlehandedly put Nascar back on the world map with this move.
Absolutely speechless.
For ~maybe~ two weeks. Sport is dry 95% of the time.
I feel the opposite, this is the end for nascar. Next time they will have 10 cars trying this at the same time and Tony Stewart tier pile ups are to come

never gonna be on the world map my guy

The kid at 4:45 saw it before anyone in the stadium. He’s pulled that move off a thousand times before
That kid really did know what was up. He knew it before it happened.
For everybody out there who don't understand what happened (I had to check the news to understand), Ross Chastain pinned his car to the wall and was driving 70mph faster than everybody else in the last curve. He was 10th place before the curve and ended up 5th place crossing the line.
You don't say! Thanks, because usually when I watch a video, I require someone to narrate the video exactly as I saw it, to confirm my eyes weren't lying.
Everyone who's played Gran Turismo as a kid understands what just happened.
No penalties ? He did something dangerous on purpose. Don't be naive.
@@Morphinem it isn’t against any of the rules. However, there will most likely be rule changes. (Not active in NASCAR, so I don’t know if they have made changes already.)
@@brandoncooke6564 the comment you’re replying to added more info that someone new to nascar wouldn’t know about. I also didn’t know it was a 70mph difference. That’s insane!

Carl Edwards tried it too about 10 years back, but at a Speedway (Kansas or Fontana, somewhere like that) and the speed loss hitting the wall didn't work there. Edwards said it worked in games, but not real life, looks like he should have tried it at a short-track!
@@OsellaSquadraCorse That is the deal with short tracks, the corner speed is slow enough normally that the car is powerful enough to overcome the friction forces of the wall slowing it down.
11 minutes 6 seconds, this is the longest I have ever seen anything related to NASCAR. That move was dope.
That was absolutely wild, and I think Chase Briscoe said it best “That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life…”
“If I’d have known that would have worked I’d have just done that the last eight laps” 😂😂 Briscoe has me dyin over here
I mean, it ruins the car immediately, so it could only be done once if the team can afford it. xD
Still 🤣🤣🤣
@@tangentfox4677 it doesn't ruin the car. It ruins part of the cheap fiberglass shell that they buy in bulk, though. Literally the cheapest, most easily replaced part of the car, that gets replaced every race anyway because there's always gonna be car to car contact during a race that breaks the shell. That's why they're so cheap and mass produced.
Edit: looking at the car's POV cam, it appears they might also have to change a tie rod end. Again, they would do this between races anyway.
@@gr6e yeah but not multiple times mid race.
Best response of any of the drivers. That was hilarious.
What's crazy about this is that wall riding is not a new idea, people have tried and failed to make it work so it was dismissed, but somehow Chastain pulled off "video game physics" in real life. Incredible.
New materials used in the barrriers...

Bogity bogity bogity
Absolutely - that guy races hard and never quits. He may rub people the wrong way with his driving, but now his season is down to one race. The field better be ready! I loathe Chevrolets but Ross is one of the best drivers in the series - Hamlin is one of the punks and the dumbest one out there.
What's so amazing is that we're decades into the sport where people have been trying everything to get any advantage, but nobody has ever seen anything remotely like that move. It's amazingly novel and unique but at the same time beautifully simple, the engine had more to give than the wall could take.
I've seen a few others say in the comments that several other drivers have tried this move in the past, but they either slowed down in turn or just didn't get much speed from doing so. This man's execution was flawless!
I think it has something to do with the concepts of crashing and going faster that just dony seem to add up very well
Maybe because its a dumb fucking move that destroys your car and presents an unpredictable danger to everyone near that car

@@b.j. lmao
Regardless of if he wins a race or a championship because of this move, it instantly made him a legend in the sport and is huge for his career.
Very well put together clips, thank you for this 💯
I've never watched NASCAR, heck, I've never watched any second of any racing sport, but now I think I'm gonna start tuning in. What an impressive display.
100% the most "ain't my car" move I've ever seen. Makes that scene that Belushi pulled in K9 (where he rented the car just to ram it into the house across the street) look like a distant memory. Also defends every video gamer who said "but it COULD happen..."
Championship means a lot more than the car
My dude went ultra instinct, instant legend
Yes, I agree.
“What in the hell?”
I couldn’t agree more Chase. That was AMAZING!
My exact reaction!
That wasnt Chase ...it was Eddie D'Hondt ....his spotter
I liked the follow up quote of "That was literally the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life. Straight videogame, but hey way to never quit" from Briscoe's view.
Someone was still racing.
This will never be forgotten.
This has been tried before and never worked.
Carl Edwards tried this once.
Ross Chastain's Instant World Driving Legend
Even people in Europe are talking about this incredible move.
Massive Respect.
You don't have to hit enter at the end of every sentence. It makes it look like you're writing poetry.
But you aren't.
@@brandoncooke6564 It makes it easier for me to read to make sure I wrote it right.
He did the move i do myself wen i play racing games LOL
@@brandoncooke6564 it's just a style of writing bro. You can still read it with no problem
This track has existed for this long and no one thought to do that? Truly historic moment.
He’s not the first one to try, he’s just the first one to do it successfully
"Thought to" and "balls to" are massively different
the craziest full-send of all time, in any sport, and sticks the landing
Dude he never even let off of the throttle. This guy is a different breed.
I think they said he even up shifted to go faster
Can't let off and still win
@@CaptainChedda yep 5th gear full throttle hands off the steering wheel ha ha!!!
@@CaptainChedda he said he put it into 5th and Mashed it.
Nascar owes Ross a debt of gratitude for making this exciting again. Even if only for one weekend. THANKS Ross!!!
You hit the money on this one dude, that was some excellent editing with the footage you had.
The amount of G's he had to have been pulling, man is a legend
5.4 I saw, and about a tenth off the all time lap record for Martinsville
You know damn well. DALE SR., is up in HEAVEN laughing his butt off!!!!!
100%
Unless Dale was in Dennys spot
Then he'd be walking to the trailer telling the media, I don't care if they sit his ass out all of next season.
@@ronaldkonkoma4356 If Dale was in Denny's spot there's no way he wouldn't have blocked that. No matter the carnage, Dale would've been against the wall ready to take the hit in the ass.....
But I'd have to agree, Dale is smiling over that one, probably thinking "why didn't I ever try that"! Lol
He's probably saying if they would have had soft walls at Martinsville when I raced I might have tried that.
@@Zookeeper101 Dale would have wrecked every single car and intentionally cut his arm off to stop someone from knocking him out of the championship with a pass like that.
All of the fan cheering for Hamlin getting eliminated from the final 4 in his home state by Ross with that move... priceless.
There is so much to this its incredible!
Because nobody actually likes him. People think other people like him so they act like they like him
"...Chastain, what are you doing?"
"Bugger off."
"Ch-? Chastain, listen to me, we are NOT doing that."
"I'm hot, I'm tired, my bones ache, and I smell of engine fluids."
"Chastain, STAND DOWN. That's an order!"
*"Pull out your wallet."*
Honestly though, this was incredible. And I LOVE the way it was deacribed in that last clip: "He _raced_ his way into the finals." There's no better word for it.
My grandfather used to be a racecar driver back in the 70s and he would've loved to see this move but unfortunately he died 2 months ago so it's extremely sadding to me that he didn't gett the chance to experience this moment in history with me
Chastain just secured his legacy with that move. He could retire tomorrow and we'd still remember him for a long time
Most insane move I’ve ever seen. Elliott’s reaction covers it. Can’t wait for Phoenix!!
when is the race?
@@x340x next Sunday November 6
@@alexayala9179 3:00 I think.
@@alexayala9179 cool, is there any way to watch it for free?
@@x340x it’ll be on USA if you have that channel.
This was freaking incredible. It almost makes me want to watch NASCAR
It's been a month since that day and I still smile and laugh my ass off at what I'm seeing! So great to see his team overjoyed and in disbelief at the same time.
