Love your Lanc dio Pete and nice to see a 'real' model shop. It's a shame there are not more around. Mooching around a shop is one of the little pleasures in life, even if you do come out having spent more than you intended!

Thanks for the nice comments Dave I'm quite fortunate that I travel around a fair bit in my job so I get to see a lot of different shops, although they are fairly well spread out across the south of England.

When I returned to this wonderful after years away I learnt many new things by watching CZcams. One was adding a couple of coats of gloss floor polish before adding decals. It was an absolute game changer. I too have built Airfix's 1/72 Lancaster and all the decals went down perfectly. I've never had a decal silver on me, even thicker Tamiya ones. The other big game changer was using Tamiya Extra Thin, that stuff is heaven sent!

I just finished my lancaster dambusters, had same issues with the walkways, used decal fix, thinners and matt gloss it improved it,i used a picture frame and model railway grass glued to the backing board of the frame for base,as there where kept on grass mostly, dambusters planes where.1/72 scale, took a couple of years but months went when i was not in the mood.i will say my home made weather panel line wash went wrong,so i covered the plane sections at a time with this thinners substitute and black paint i used on the plane, dipped kitchen roll in some of the clean thinners and quickly wiped it of in the direction of wind flow,it worked out pretty realistic, just be quick and dont go mad with the thinners.have at least one coat of matt gloss on first, weather then regloss to seal it.

Lancaster looks great. Before you go removing decals, if you lightly run a rivet wheel or a fresh scalpel blade over the full decal with only enough pressure to pierce the decal film you can go over the decals again with sol/set and it should cure the silvering.
Alton model centre is my local, closest one to the airfield anyway!
