Enjoyed this. Nice work with what you were allowed to use. Your work on the canopy was superb; a steady hand indeed. Just goes to show how much a few little extras enhance a build. Thanx for sharing. 👍
Nice work. The problems you explained, and were apparent, just show that "3d party" items are a must. Primer, putty and sandpaper being of necessity. Not to mention gloss varnishes.
That light gray pattern painting looks awful to do. But I'm sure masking it for airbrushing would feel no less tedious. Great result considering the materials.
Hey! The best primer by far is Mr surfacer 1500, in any colour, however this requires an airbrush, so I'd instead recommend the rattle can version of Mr surfacer. It's the next best thing after airbrushing. Just make sure you spray it either outside or in a very well ventilated area, as it's a lacquer so it can be pretty harmful if misused
Don't blame you lol it saves some time. It's less about the silvering that worries me and more the fact that the water can make an acrylic surface bubble up a bit if it stays wet for too long 😅
You can use spray cans yeah, however I'd recommend going for dedicated modelling spray paints as commercial spray paint can be a bit dense and fill up detail
Building kits with as less materials and tools as possible is more like expert work. Beginners will find it much easier if they have all the tools and materials they need at their disposal. So i really don't get the point of these "starter" kits. Brush painting on an unprimed surface? No way. You need experience to get a half decent result.
These kits are designed for kids and people who want to try out the hobby maybe on a Saturday afternoon without having to invest too much into it - what I mean to say is that it's just designed with fun in mind! They also teach people the importance of auxillary supplies if they do want to get into the hobby more seriously, as they act as a demonstrator for the results you'll get without buying other supplies :)
Really hope you enjoyed this video all! See you in the next one :D
It's amazing you didn't use tape to mask the lighter grey areas, great brush control and steady hand.
Cheers! Yeah I wished I had the masking tape for that, 3 hours of pain haha 😅
built mine with the canopy up, its a nice kit.
@@diggilad781 it's a good one!
Great inspiring video to have a go at the starter set challenge!
😄
Thank you for taking it back to basics!
Enjoyed this.

Glad you like it, many thanks!
Really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.
With regard to paint adhesion, did you wash the parts first to get rid of any mold release agent. Best wishes Vic.
I did indeed! These humbrol starter set paints are just a bit reluctant to stick without a primer layer
Very very well executed! 👏

Thanks! Yeah I totally agree. These kits a nice step up into the hobby for newcomers, but third party extras are really the only way to improve!
Exactly! This would be a very good idea for a project for kids. And cheap too! @@ModellingWeekly

It was incredibly tedious! Was much easier with spray masks on my other f-35, however even then it took a while indeed. Thank you man :)
Absolutely fantastic take on the Starter Set Challenge!
Really glad you like it mate!
Great job mate.
Cheers man
You did very well!
Thank you!
You met the challenge 👍 9/10 😅
Haha thank you!
Fantastic effort, wonder what it would be like against the clock?😂 same about the ads, cheers Liam
Thank you! Yeah haha, would be an interesting twist on the challenge 😅
@@ModellingWeekly absolutely, however, i wont be trying it 🤣
Hi, what primer would you recommend for this if you were using it? I’m new to this and have no clue

Lol, I slide instrument panel decals onto unvarnished cockpits all the time.
I do have Mr.mark setter and Mr.mark softer to help though....
Don't blame you lol it saves some time. It's less about the silvering that worries me and more the fact that the water can make an acrylic surface bubble up a bit if it stays wet for too long 😅
Superb work mate, you've achieved a great finish 👍
Cheers!
Does spray paint work on these models

Flat plane❤
