Out of spite, the Roman conquerors renamed the entire region of Israel, and the surrounding areas to the sea, Palestine after the Philistines - who lived in that region earlier and were mortal enemies of the Israelites. There is no country or nation of Palestine. They are refugees from the Arab wars with Israel and none of the surrounding Muslim nations have taken them in. This is deliberate so as to serve as a thorn in the side of Israel.
