A few other things: 1. Melo does not get foul calls. At all. In the game against the Wizards, he took THREE foul shots, and 2 of them were an intentional foul. Against Boston, he took ONE free throw. The game before that against NY? TWO free throws. Note in all 3 of those games he has scored 34, 36, and 34 points. He is getting absolutely mauled when he drives but the refs swallow their whistles. If he got foul calls at the rate of other superstars, he would easily average 4-5 more points a game. 2. You compared him to Magic at one point and that's what us fans have been saying for a while. His passes are seriously magical. I've been comparing him to Magic for a couple of years now. (Not saying he's better or equal to Magic overall, just in terms of their passing.) 3. His defense has improved. You saw him clamp down Haliburton in that clip. He's bringing it on D and that was honestly my biggest knock on him the first 3 years in the league. He's still not a + defender, but he's not a - now, either. 4. HE WAS RECOVERING FROM AN INJURY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON. That is why his first 5 games were crap. He was still getting his feet under him from that. Most of us at the hornets blog I frequent expected the first few games to be duds because of that. We also expected him to be amazing, but I'll be honest: he's surpassed my beliefs, too. He is beasting out right now. 5. I expected him to be great once he finally got a Center. Mark Williams is legit. He's been playing with Mason Freaking Plumlee before this year, so it is nice to see Ball get to play with a Center who can control the paint. Just what every good PG needs: a Center. Melo is quickly forcing his name into all-nba status. As a Hornets fan, this is a year earlier than I wanted since his contract extension begins next year and he signed a max contract. lol. But I'm glad to see him make the leap. I've always believed he had MVP potential and if you look at his numbers the last 9 games, they are MVP worthy. (No, I don't think he'll win it this year, but I will not be surprised if he wins it in the next 5 years.)
I don't like talking about Miles due to ... well, you know. But Miles is what this team needs. Melo brings the fun and energy but Miles brings that "we will win this" attitude that greats like Kobe had. (Not saying Miles is anywhere near Kobe's level.) Basically, Melo brings the fun while Miles brings the seriousness. They compliment each other well. Also, Miles was a near all-star two years ago when he last played and that's a huge talent to miss all of last year and the first 10 games this year.
THANK YOU for making this vid. Lamelo has been playing like a top 5 PG in the league during this 9 game stretch, and almost nobody is talking about it cause it’s Charlotte
@@phil6298 we have had a ton of injuries to start the year. And ever since he’s gone on this tear, we have won more. Plus miles bridges is now back and looks like he’s worked off a lot of his rust too. This few games having been played isn’t enough to make a statement like that
I never understood the hate. LaMelo has improved his game every year. It’s called growth. His biggest hindrance is the team because his potential is limitless if he stays focused and healthy. One thing Magic never had was an All Defensive team selection. Melo has that potential even though he’s bigger than most pgs he’s quick. Thank LaVar for that. Right now I’m just mad I don’t live in Charlotte anymore.
The most dangerous thing about melo is that he sees passes that we can't Lonzo too, notice before Lonzo got hurt the bulls were the number 1 seed. Ball bros court vision is unreal.
11:05 I wish they would stop the narrative that lamelo ball is 'stuck' in Charlotte. This is his fourth year, he signed a MAX contract to stay in Charlotte which means he WANTS to be there.
yeah, he's the kind of guy that loves having the freedom of his own team. melo, tyrese hali and luka have been playing some kind of wizard ball in the last few games. the game just looks so easy for them.
The fact that Halliburton can openly admit that he messed up on that final play is a GREAT sign! He’s going to be a real problem for defenses in the near future!
Getting Myles back made them legit contenders idnc and Miller don’t play like a rookie their big man solid but not perfect will be interesting to see how they act when rozier gets back cause I can see it messing up the flow
Efficiency means way more than stats. Lots of good players can put up great numbers on a a bad team, but it’s really hard to be efficient and high volume.
He is finally getting respect from some. People now are pointing to wins like he doesn’t have a horrible coach with the worst roster in the nba. He is being doubled all game averaging 30 and 9 and wpuld have like 15 assists instead of 9 if his teammates weren’t missing wide open shots man it’s so sad
I am a fan of his, the kid can play! Leave is Pops out of it, yes he didn't help but too much pressure on him but if he plays his game the kid is nice!!!
Hornets fan here. People don't like him because of the off court ... issues he had, and I won't tell them they're wrong for feeling that. But people do need to acknowledge that he is still a damn good basketball player, and if the Hornets make the playoffs, he'll be one of the major reasons why
I feel like melo would be much more appreciated if he played in a better team. Ive been saying since last season lamelo is top guard in the nba imo. I got dame, curry, melo, fox, SGA (honorable mention: murray but he always injured)
