Have you considered painting all the woodwork around the door and side windows the same color of the door? You'll likely find the entire entryway will be more outstanding and add the grandeur it deserves. Love what you're doing!

I completely agree. I painted my front door, trim and side windows the same color and it gave the door more of a presence and made it look more substantial. And all my neighbors loved it as well.
I disagree - I think that would be quite overwhelming and feel a bit too modern. I love how it looks currently. The painted door with the contrasting trim feels so charming and inviting, while also being relaxed and a little coastal! It also neatly contrasts the style of the windows and shutters.

I'm with you. The green is very strong - which is wonderful for the shutters and door - and would overpower the porch. And having only the door in the green increases the impact of that gorgeous door with the striking contrast. I have a feeling the door may end up being a different color. She didn't sound convinced and that she loved it.

The trellis is gorgeous. Very classy. As someone who has been gardening 35 years, I would plant one jasmine in each planter. They grow and fill-out well.
Are they called Jasmine vines, or do I just look for Jasmine? I really need something to climb and fill in an area ❤️
@@SometimeAgo65 I think she planted Confederate Jasmine. It will totally fill in and will have to be trimmed to maintain the shape.
@@SometimeAgo65 botanical name is Trachelospermum Jasminoides aka Confederate Jasmin or Star Jasmin. My all time favourite climber - I have 10 in my garden so Spring is wonderful as the fragrance is amazing.
@@SometimeAgo65 the plant is Trachelospermum or common name is star jasmine. They don’t like frost so you need to google if it’s right for your area. Two plant would easily cover this lattice in a few , maybe two or three years. They flower in summer with beautiful little white flowers.

Your porch (and home!) is an absolute dream. So classic but fresh. I wondered if you considered painting the side lites around the door green as well. I always think they’re part of the door package. No matter, super precious. I love the door knocker!
I was thinking that. The side windows and window above being painted would make it feel like a big, grand doorway. Either way, Shelby always has impeccable taste.
100% agree! Painting the side and top panes in the green will give a more substantial look to the door. Love it all, and I look so forward to your updates. We just planted 2 large jasmine today, too! They are quick climbers, and the scent is incredible!
I have considered it! I like the way the door stands out against the trim and window edges right now. That being said, I could look at it tomorrow and totally change my mind! 🤣

You will LOVE your Confederate Jasmine! Get the little green bands off that are holding it to the bamboo stake. Many times they can dig into the “flesh” and cause disease or insects to be introduced. Go ahead and weave the vines through the lattice individually while it’s still small and before new growth starts. The roses might not be happy in that location. Most want as much sun as their little faces can get and that’s looks as if it gets 5-6 hrs max. Much love to y’all from MS Gulf Coast🏝💚

Consider planting roses in another area. Roses grow best in full sun. Plant them anywhere from 20 inches to 30 inches apart from other plants to help with good circulation and prevent diseases.

That trellis is everything!!! It has totally transformed the feel. Makes a cozy, intimate little space. The door with the beveled window panes and the dark green door is stunning!!! I did like the kick plate and might Rub and Buff it to soften the shine. Hope the jasmine and roses take off and give you the privacy you are going for.

The door looks really good-I love that color! It’s very unique, I think. Your porch is looking so beautiful-you are really in your element, being outside with all the things you didn’t have in NY. Looking into your foyer is really charming and draws you inside.
Just a suggestion, you should’ve lightly sanded first, then used a brush for the cut ins and a foam roller to smooth out the entire door finish.
Primer would also be a thought.
Love this green with the contrast of the antique brass! As an avid gardener and someone who randomly gets the urge to paint “all the things” I do wonder how you keep from ruining your beautiful clothing. 😳 Your style is seemingly effortless; polished, yet comfortable. The hunter green, burgundy, and rose colors were very popular when I was in my late teens in the 1990s. It’s great to see them coming back around, but with a hint of modern flare.

I would raise the trellis a little, and slip some small paver pieces under the pots to reduce rot risk and make cleaning easier

I think the door looks fine without the brass kickplate. I have one on my wooden front door and it was far too shiny, so I simply painted it oil rubbed bronze when we installed new door hardware of the same color. 7 years later it is still pristine. I don’t know that I would say to paint yours, I just threw that out there so you won’t overlook the power of paint in some other project you may run in to. 😂

I have a trellis on the side of my house and one year I transplanted a sweet potato vine from my window box and it absolutely took it over, in a short time and all the nearby plants.
It was gorgeous!
I can't imagine having so much control in my own decorating, having others to satisfy in the household. I get that you are a channel and you are sharing your ideas to be helpful to others. I like you and I find you sweet and humble. I admire that you shared that you have anxiety, I do too and it renders me static.
I think you need to use a small roller. They have them specifically for doors. Makes a smoother finish.

Whilst growing up amid my childhood, my beloved late Father planted a tremendous amount of unforgettably fragrant and aesthetically Divine Jasmine flowers. My memories of the natural, God-ordained perfume emanating from those sweet Jasmine flowers and permeating all around us is something I will always cherish deeply. 🖤

The trellis turned out so beautiful. It looks so welcoming and it is going to smell lovely! I like the mix of the jasmine and the rose. Many years ago when we lived in Spain our driveway was an arbor of jasmine and honeysuckle and it smelled so amazing.
The trellis will be beautiful once the flowers fill it up!

I’d do the side lights they are part of the door really and then leave the trim white. It will beef up the door and make it look more stately.

I think i would make the door and side lights a bit lighter green than shutters so that door is focal point. Otherwise the eye just goes to all of the green. If you make the door a few green shades lighter then eye would more easily focus on door as 'light shades advance, darker shades recede". I love your videos, so inspirational, creative and so many beautiful great ideas.
