Abandoned 1955 Chevy Nomad, Worst Car I've Ever Bought - Rescued After Sitting For Years

  • Well, this story started last Christmas with a random message on our weekly live stream. "Are you looking for a Nomad?" came up across the screen. Of course I'm looking for a Nomad! This was the perfect car for me: Cheap, ratty, missing parts, basically the worst Nomad left in existence.
The Problem? It was on the other side of the country in a small mountain town. This made shipping a real challenge. Shippers had no interest in delivery a clapped out car with no running gear. Getting it myself would be about a week, round trip. That simply wasn't in the cards with my work/CZcams schedule so it stayed on the back burner.
Well it kept bugging me so eventually I figured out a way to get car home with a little cash, a little free labor and trading my old abandoned Challenger.
Buyers remorse? Yeah just a little, but I am excited to start on this project!
What do you guys think? I am I crazy?.
Also buy a shirt so I can buy more hood scoops:

Most shows on CZcams buy better cars as the channel grows, this is like the opposite of that, but I prefer it this way. Although the rooster may not approve, a 55 Nomad is the ultimate Tri-5!

That's a great project for you! I had a 55 Nomad many years ago and there's several items that are specific to the 55 Nomad that the 56 and 57 didn't have. Main thing is the rear wheel wells are radiused while 56 and 57 were regular stationwagon openings.
The seat upholstery and door panels were unique to 55. The other 2 years had standard Belair interior. The dash trim on the 55 had tiny Chevy bow ties on them while the others were standard Belair.
I have some trim parts left, some Nomad specific, that I would donate to your cause. I need to dig them out, so it won't be immediately, but I will get them to you. It's fun to watch your projects, and I re-live some of my youth as I watch.
I'm glad you worked your way to a Nomad. This will be fun to watch!!

Ya That suspension is most likely a Chevelle or Cutlass with front steer around 78 and upward - good stuff - no need for those motor mounts like that - I have just relocated the original ones to where I want the engine to sit - A neat trick when putting on the rear quarters is to cut top swoop out of the rear doors of a four door and weld them into the Nomad - That's a little modification that will make your car unique in the crowd.

This "Restormade" will be your Thesis Paper" on makin 55's, And the most rewarding trifive endevor to date yet, as well, Im really lookin forward to this project as the expense in parts alone at this point dictates all the Extra efforts" and $ as well as the labor required to make all this happen, this kinda total" dedication is insorta itself, a gaurantee in that all resorces be directed towards this completion, thus somewhat of a gauranteed sucess resulting from this kinda devotion as well, and these very same factors determining when it Happens, as the brickwalls ahead are everywhere from full bore to second thoughts, continously. Your dogged determination, and true trifive love and dedication will keep it all on course till eventually it comes together! Its at these issues of "the Nomad parts" that makes this one totally different than the other commonizers of trifivers. Yes, pull this one off (AND I KNOW YOU WILL) and everything changes, as the "to do list" here is very different in everyway, and these inticing challenges accepted by yours truely can only provide the most valuable in rewards, and for all the others watching at a Safer distance, as you risk your own resources, an they dont have too, much more, in these rewards, the same! This Nomad, is the car that CHANGES EVERYTHING AT D&D SPEED!

I was in Winterpeg on the weekend and was turning right onto one of the main drags when I heard a rumble in my left ear - there was a MINT '57 2 door Nomad going past me!
    Sweeeeeeeeetttttttttt

Cool project Dan! I was literally dying seeing you throw all the parts around inside the car. Man it has a lot of high dollar parts inside the car. The little curved lower garnish moulding,$300 a side as you toss it to the back! Dam man clean out the car and gently set the parts out on the ground. The little chrome strips you had are for the back lift gate glass and also the green piece your buddy has goes on the bottom of the lift gate. If you wasn't so far away I know where the parts are for that car. Overall its a good nomad to build and looks like a 70s street car with that diamand paint!. Later man✌

It's rough but it can be fixed. The question is are you the man that can fix it.
