    Whenever I first start watching these videos I’m like “oh man this is a dream job! I wanna do this!” And then he gets to the individual dots he has to repaint and I’m like “oh my gosh I could never”

      I get why you might think that, but truly, when you get to the stage of work where you are doing miniscule things like painting those dots, it's a state of zen/flow that is really, deeply restorative. I don't restore, but I do paint and draw, and the tiny stuff always looks so daunting, but when I finally do it, it's such a good and satisfying teacher of being patient and taking life slow.

    It's crazy. A painter, long gone from this Earth. Yet SOMEONE, long after he he has left this plane, taking the time. Taking the effort, three hundred years later, to restore his beloved baby. We are ALL connected. Amazing.

Regardless of the time, humanity cannot help but to value art and consider it worth protecting, and I think that’s truly one of our most beautiful traits as a species- the joy and meaning we find and have sought over the years in the pursuit of art.

    such beautiful work. it's so relaxing to watch, and at the same time it's kind of a thrill to know you're seeing it as the artist intended, sometimes hundreds of years ago. watching the colors leap out from under that old varnish, seeing all the little details that had been obscured, and knowing this is closer to what the painting looked like when the original artist stepped back and said "yep, it's done" lol. it's all fascinating to me. thanks so much for posting these videos.

    There's so much to love and also unpack about this channel. The work itself is painstakingly done, from the Belgian linen to filling in the small losses in the painting. This work seems to be a few dozen jobs and even more skills rolled into one title. (On a side note, I would love to hear a story about how you trained for this career and what skills you learned the easiest).
    It's so easy to appreciate all of the hard work. You lay it out in front of us. You talk about it in a practical, pragmatic manner, but in a way that shows how much you care about your work and its quality. I'm not any sort of artist, but I deeply appreciate this work and this channel. Thank you

    I'm in complete and total awe from watching this video. I have a background in the arts and have worked at art museums in NYC so I knew a little about art restoration. I knew it was a painstaking process that involved meticulous attention to detail, but I've never seen it done before. I would absolutely love to do this kind of work. It's so tactile and satisfying. Hell, I would do this work for free. You wouldn't have to pay me.

    I think one of the most wondrous things about your videos is that it’s taught me to see paintings differently. I thought many painting of this era were warm and dark because they only had candles and were indoors a lot. Seeing the original paintings shows how the moodiness is still there but somehow it’s so different. The artist chose those colours purposefully and now we see them!

      I've loved some of his videos with music. I guess it depends on taste. One of them I watched many times just to listen. I guess the best is to do several videos both ways.. a variety of styles..

      ​@@70M80 HAHAHAH I'm sorry, I'm glad, that's just so ironic considering often I can be...."undiplomatic". Maybe I'm growing as a person? :D I have seen some videos elsewhere that I had to mute because I really did not like the music but luckily for me, Mr. B (someone else called him that.. I like it..) chooses good music. This way was neat because you can hear the brush strokes and tool sounds.. it's very cool.

      There isn't anything unethical. Professionals like this test everything before hand to make sure it will not hurt or damage the painting to try and make it look like it did when it was first painted
