Aussie Rules and Rugby are 2 completely different sports.
Correction, sort of. There are four different 'footy' sports: Aussie Rules, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Soccer
@@petemedium2185 Aussie rules football is older than rugby. And it is completely different
@@Nathan-ry3yu I didn't mention Australia, only the types of 'footy' played anywhere. Official start dates: Modern Soccer - 1863. Rugby union - 1871. Rugby League - 1895. VFL - 1896. Aussie Rules, or AFL - 1990
@@Nathan-ry3yu The oldest surviving set of rules of Australian rules football were drawn up on 17 May 1859.
Rugby School, whose name has been given to the sport, was pivotal in the development of rugby football, and the first rules of the game that became rugby union football were established there in 1845.
They're all older than me.🙃
@@petemedium2185 The VFL or Victorian Football League ran the top level of competition of Aussie rules for many years, though it wasn't the only league in Australia This senior competition changed to the AFL with the introduction of teams based outside of Victoria. (Similarly, the NSWRL senior competition came under the ARL for the same reasons)
The oldest surviving set of rules of Australian rules football were drawn up on 17 May 1859. However, the first match that the AFL Commission has identified as a direct precursor to the codification of Australian football was between Melbourne Grammar School Football Club and Scotch College, on 31 July 1858.

W-e-l-l, Melbourne WAS Australia's capital for a time, since Canberra was just a paddock at Federation.
Melbourne was never and never been Australia's Capital city
@@christopherbell2091 In 1901 when Australia became a commonwealth Melbourne served as its federal capital until 1927, when Canberra was established.
@@christopherbell2091 Yes, it absolutely has. Melbourne was the wealthiest city in the world at the peak of the gold rush and was our interim capital city while Canberra was being planned and built post-federation. Canberra was built precisely because of a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne's competition for capital city status.
@Michael Rogers Well done you on exercising important semantics. I'm sure we can all agree that the 'temporary seat of Federal Parliament' is not the same as being an 'interim Capital City'. Thanks for clearing that up.

Kangaroo meat has actually become quite popular and is a much healthier and more sustainable alternative to sheep and cattle. In a nutshell the killing of Dingoes to allow sheep and cattle to be farmed has allowed kangaroo numbers to built up to unsustainable numbers with the only option culling by professional shooters only. Strict controls determine what carcases are to be processed and eliminates the waste if just leaving a carcass in the paddock.
Or you can go out and shoot your own, if of course you have a gun licence.

Aussie Rules has nothing to do with Rugby! Two very different sports. If you’re counting only the players involved in a particular sport, that doesn’t measure its popularity, but if you count the number of spectators who watch the sport every week, the answer is a resounding win to Aussie Rules!

Aussie rules is EASILY the biggest sport in Australia
As a cricket lover, I would have to agree with you.
Ah, yes. But cricket is played nationwide but AFL isn't. But of course Victorians think there is no other sport than AFL. In NSW it's Ruby Leage as the number one football code,
@@thomasprice311 AFL is Played in every State in Australia and has by far more supporters than any other sport in Australia. I live in NSW ( just to let you know I am not a one eyed Victorian).
@@thomasprice311 you are wrong but ok....AFL IS the biggest sport and it is played nationwide
@@Neil-from-Oz Yeh, sorry, maybe I meant as far as the amount of people such as juniors and club level players participating, there would be other codes of sport that would outnumber the number of participants playing AFL nationwide. I still say AFL is not t Australia's National sport. You should gauge an Australian National sport By it's participant in international games and cricket, rugby, rugby league and even soccer are more represented Than AFL.
AFL is bigger than Cricket, however AFL is a winter sport and Cricket is a summer sport, also Rugby League is nothing like AFL, but still a great game, even though I follow AFL.
It depends if you are talking registered players or total spectators. Cricket has more registered players than AFL, but the crowds are obviously bigger for AFL.
@@RolandjHearn I was under the assumption that it meant crowds, but I maybe incorrect.
Cricket is the dominant summer sport in the whole country. Aussie Rules isn’t very popular in either NSW or Qld, which is just under half of the country’s population. In the states where Aussie Rules is the dominant sport it is the most popular by some margin, but the expansion into NSW is heavily subsidised by the Australian Football League (AFL) and without that support teams like Greater Western Sydney and Gold Coast would collapse overnight as there isn’t the player base in those States to support two teams.
The AFL gets the highest attendance at games and has the highest number of season ticket holding members, however the National Rugby League (NRL) gets the overall highest number of tv viewers, based on its popularity in NSW and Queensland and the difference in spectator behaviour where NRL fans are less likely to go to games but more likely to watch on tv.
The sport with the highest number of participants is Association Football (soccer) which has more players than Aussie Rules, Rugby League and Rugby Union (the sport known internationally as rugby, but less popular than Rugby League in Australia) combined.
Association Football does struggle for attention at the professional level as more people follow the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League than the local A League, which has a more recent history as well as mismanagement issues.
Interestingly the two rugby codes are in serious decline at the player level with Rugby Union having less than half the player numbers especially at junior level than it did twenty years ago, with Rugby League on the same track but about ten years behind Union in player loss. Both games are being increasingly perceived as excessively violent and parents are increasingly turning to Association Football and Basketball as junior sporting options. The fan base of both rugby’s and Rugby League in particular are ageing with the average NRL fan now in there mid 50’s- the game is more popular with Boomers and older generations than it is with Gen’s X, Y and Z and is in serious danger of going off the popularity cliff (Rugby Union is already on the precipice and starting to struggle commercially). Aussie Rules is staying steady in both player numbers and popularity, as is cricket (with T20 becoming more popular at the expense of the older forms of the game), but it looks like Association Football and Basketball are going to benefit the most from the decline of the rugby games.
An important threshold was crossed in about 2012, when the number of people living in Australia who were born in Asia outnumbered the number of people born in Europe, with the Asian born population being significantly younger than the European born (who mainly arrived 1950’s-1980’s) and the Asian born population more likely to be starting families with kids growing up in Australia. Immigration from ‘traditional’ immigration source countries like the UK and Ireland has really slowed down and the only large immigrant communities from Rugby Union favouring nations that are still growing in Australia are from New Zealand and South Africa, although this isn’t likely to be enough to save the sport. The new Asian Australians generally prefer Association Football, Basketball and Cricket (those born in India are now the second largest overseas born group in Australia). Only some of them develop an interest in Aussie Rules and very few develop interest in either rugby codes. We may well be seeing generational shifts in Australian sporting preferences, with Rugby Union and Rugby League being the main casualties, and Aussie Rules losing some of its dominance in the southern states (where it will still remain the most popular winter game but by a lesser margin).
The French national animal is a rooster and we all eat roosters.

Cricket is the national sport followed in all states.
AFL/NRL are more state based, that's why cricket is considered the national sport.
@@MichaelSmithAU No!
@@davidhuett3579 want to give a bit more information?
What do you consider it is?
@@davidhuett3579 Neither AFL nor NRL are played in all states & Tasmania & Northern Territory don't have a league team in either, so are not "national".
NRL is only played in 3 States, & Melbourne/Victoria only has 1 team, so no NRL league in the state. So NOT national sport
Traditionally, in Aussie Rules football, there was only the VFL as a major league. (yes, Aussie Rules was played in Qld, Tas, but were just local footy & not a major league, & SANFL is a State League, as is WAFL, but none of those teams play outside of their State - except & rarely occasional special one-offs). Even with South Melbourne Swans moving to Sydney in '82, AFL wasn't national sport. It was only with the Fitzroy Lions moving to Brisbane, that Ausssie Rules became more nationally popular & the subsequent 2 SA & @ WA teams joining the AFL + 1 more QLD team & 1 more Sydney team, has AFL become somewhat national.
However neither Aussie Rules nor NRL/RU are played in all States. (there are "grass roots" matches in non AFL States & non NRL/RU States but for AFL that has only occurred since AFL has expanded & increased number of teams, Rugby has hardly expanded at all).
At the most could say, now & for only past 2 decades, Aussie Rules & Cricket are both National Sports. Cricket is very popular in all States and has equal (per percentage of State's population) viewership. AFL does tho get the largest attendances at matches, out of all 3 sports, but only is in 4 States
Kangaroo is available in the supermarkets and it has an extremely low fat content. If you try to fry it you need to add fat or oil it is that low in fat. It's best to slice up into strips and use it in a stir fry but add the kangaroo last and cook for 30 to 60 seconds. Any longer and it will go very tough/tuff. Kangaroo is also *very* low in calories!
As for the national animal if you want to stuff people up as Emu into the list because both the Kangaroo and Emu are on the Coat of Arms.

Our biggest sport is AFL. States have different favourite sports, but the most watched and attended is AFL. Queensland is known for Rugby, Victoria is where AFL was invented, but every state has it's own (or multiple) AFL teams.
Attendance and participation numbers are different beasts. AFL players 550,000. Cricket 1,5000,000.

Cricket in summer. Aussie rules in winter seems more correct.
The most popular Tourist sport seems to be drowning in Backpackers Rip at Bondi Beach. More popular than playing "Is This Snake Venomous?"
With regards to the most popular sport in Australia, it depends at what level, and what state or territory you live in.
At the spectator, professional level it’s Australian rules first (except QLD, NSW and ACT), daylight second. The AFL draws huge crowds, plus it’s the most cashed up sport in Australia. Next is Rugby League (if you live in QLD, NSW or the ACT). Rugby Union is mainly centred around the private schools, but the Wallabies and Super 15 get good crowds. Football (soccer), is the biggest sport in Australia, at the amateur participant level, the A League used to get good crowds, but they have not been great.
And of course cricket is definitely Australia’s national sport, with it being popular in every state and territory.
Cricket is usually played in the summer months whereas Rugby Union, Rugby League and Australian Rules Football (AFL) are played in the winter months.
@Michael Rogers Sorry my bad. I mean AFL

Kangaroo meat is mostly used as pet food for dogs and maybe some cat food. Kangaroos are a national animal symbol mainly because they are so prolific and common, or least the two most common species of the Grey and Red kangaroos are. Kangaroos can often breed up during good seasons to plague proportions and need to be culled by shooters to protect farmlands and even native pastures. There are probably more kangaroos in Australia than there are people.

Even in Europe it's legal to eat kangaroo, not imported, raised here. I've tried it - only one bite. It was very dry but not chewy, I don't need it.
Like any meat, it needs to be cooked correctly for it to taste good

By the way, if any of the people in this video ever go to Australia, I'd advise them not to bother going to Canberra. It's a pretty dull little city.
Canberra is Aboriginal for meeting place
They know SFA about ANYTHING!!!!
Melbourne being the capital is half right because it was the capital from the time of Federation in 1901 until Canberra was completed in 1927. Aboriginal is actually the adjactival form. The indigenous people are actually Aborigines, as one of the guys mentioned (and Torres Strait Islanders). There is no Aussie rules "slash" rugby. Aussie rules is a completely different game to rugby and was invented in Australia (Melbourne). Cricket is not the national sport. The greatest annual total and average attendance for domestic sports competitions in Australia is for the Australian Football League, the peak competition of Australian rules football, at 6.7 million and 32,600, respectively, followed by the National Rugby League (rugby league is actually a somewhat different game than "rugby" which is rugby union), at 3.3 million and 16,700, respectively, then Big Bash League, which is cricket, at 1.2 million and 16,000, respectively. In terms of amateur participation, it is a bit closer, with a large number playing soccer and Aussie rules, but also decent numbers playing cricket, netball, (field) hockey and swimming.
We are the only country in the world that has animals on their coat of arms that are eaten, Iam a chef and have cooked Emu and eaten kangaroo (must not be cooked over medium rare because it will go tuff to eat), also I have cooked and eaten crocodiles as well as Turtle, Dugong (in Noth Queensland).
Not all Australian's believe Kangaroo should be eaten. Also, Cricket is the No1 Summer sport in Australia & Football is the Winter Sport. Aussie Rules in Victoria, WA, SA & TASSIE. Rugby League in New South Wales & Queensland. Canberra became Australia's Capital because Australia's 2 biggest states, couldn't work out which City should be the Capital. So, Canberra was built specifically to be the Capital. It is situated directly halfway between Sydney & Melbourne
Aborigines were literally the first natives of Rome.
There were 500 distinct tribes in Australia, when colonized - each had their own name.
They were never a homogenous collective, unlike those others groups.

The National animal is debatable because the national emblem shows a kangaroo and an emu standing on opposite each other at the shield. on the national coat of arms. I think the kangaroo is used more because it is more recognizable to foreigners,
Kangaroo is available at every supermarket
Koala is not a bear
Only country in the world to eat the animals on our coat of arms
Aussie Rules is number 1 sport in winter with cricket in summer
like i say to tourists here when they say "yo you guys have so many poisonous snakes here" and like any good Aussie i say "Yeah-Nah they are delicious... just don't let them bite you because they are venomous as F@ck"
Native Aboriginals have been eating kangaroo meat for thousands of years. But not every Aussie will eat it its more traditional for Aboriginals to do so
