Yesterday he said, “I will come.” That’s direct discourse. Indirect discourse (not a quotation) would be, “He said he would come.” Same for can compared to could. He said, “I can do it. “. He said he could do it “

Hi Antonio, I just began teaching English at the college level for English language learners. I was a former elementary school teacher and have never taught theoretical grammar and have scrambled to buy books that explained certain questions. This was a perfect video for my students who ask this question frequently. What's the difference? You won't believe the note-taking during this video and I have never explained it this clearly.

Thank you Antonio for your valuable points. English is my second language and I am volunteerly teaching english to impoverished children in Srilanka and it is totally free of charge. I started going to remote villages on weekends and started with 25 children and now The figure has grown upto over 1000 children in various part of the Island.
