The Guru Granth Sahib opens with the basic concept of the One Universal, supreme Energy called by so many different names across humanity,.
Ik oankar - One absolute being (God)
Satnam - Eternal truth it's name
Karta Purkh - Creator
Nirbau - without fear
Nirvair - without hate/ enmity
Akal Murat - Deathless/timeless image
Ajuni - Beyound birth and death
Saibang - self existant
Gurprasad - known by the Guru's Grace.
This is repeated numerous times and at the start of every section as a constant reminder.
In the words of the tenth Sikh Guru - Guru Gobind Singh "recognise the human race as ONE"
Ego is opposed to the Lord and cannot dwell in the same place. Here lies all solutions to all problems. This teaching is the foundation of all truth. Thank you Guru.
This makes so much sense now after 29 year later. Thank you
Beautiful. Thank you. Wahe Guru 🙏🏼✨

14:22 Thank you so much for mentioning mental health. Mental health is my biggest obstacle in trying to align with hukam. I never knew how to reconcile the fact that I didn't seem to have the ability to be fearless and optimistic because of my brain chemistry. My biggest fear is that my mental illness will keep me from being able to join the Sangat as a "white" guy who doesn't speak Punjabi and has no natural connections to Sikhi...
Don’t worry about not speaking punjabi. You can go to any gurdwara and you will be welcome.
@@hardipsandhu8625 Thank you, that means a ton to me. I can't wait to be among Sangat ji.
I am not Punjabi either but I am Sikh and have been learning Gurmukhi at my local Gurdwara. Sikhism is for anyone wanting to find the truth and merge with Waheguru.
The ego is the identification with the illusion of separation from The One
Thankyou for studying sikhism in so much depth and sharing this deep knowledge with world
Thanks very much for
us about the real cause of our problems and solution thereof. It is also said that when selfishness is a sin, unselfishness is a virtue which is the only differrence between a devil and god.Well as regards Hukam He is the God Power which is the Creator,Sustainer and Controller of the Universe as clearly defined in Stanja 2 of Japji Sahib.
Living in "Hukam Rajai Chalna" is very hard practically, but a measure of spiritual maturity. That is why when Guru Arjan Dev Ji said "Tera Kiya (Bhana) meetha Lage" despite his suffering, it showed his state of being in Hukum.
Satpal Ji - The naam simran and sewa are key components to walking the path of Hukam, in my belief. Directly following the path or Hukam is akin to direct realization, which albeit possible is rare, and the individual must posses the qualifications. Hence, doing Naam Simran to purify & Sewa to purify & loose once Ego, can help us in Hukam Rajai Chalna. Please share your thoughts.
Ravi Trivedi according to my experience thnking god for what i have and following the path pf hukam have helped me to feel satisfied at every moment of life, nd this satisfaction helped me to practice naam simran properly, when u r not satisfied in live it is hard to concentrate on any thing.
Acceptance (hukam rajai chalna) is not direct realization, it’s submission to god but not separating from your identity hence not the ultimate realization. It’s an acquired process and does not happen instantly and hence must be practiced everyday to be pioneered. The more you practice it the farther you go from your ego and reach ultimate realization. I think it is the easiest and most beautiful path to realization - the path of slow and gradual submission.

Watch this video AGAIN AND AGAIN. Read the Granth Sahib AGAIN AND AGAIN..No one can give you the truth in one lesson. You don't want a million answers as much as you want a few forever questions. The questions are diamonds you hold in the light. Study a lifetime and you see different colours from the same jewel.

This is the very good help , letting go of me thinking and broadening the perspective on you thinking totally keep us in harmony
I want to know
How can someone suffering from mental illness like schizophrenia and acquired brain injury, can understand this ?
Our faults are not our enemies ..they are our tools..our weapons. Sikhi teaches us the ultimate goal is to lose the concept of "I". Without a "You" or "Me" and an "I" "One" cannot lose the "I"
We begin this game not in comfort..we begin the game under direct fire. There would be no point to the game if it was easy and did not invoke struggle.
Sikhi struggle..that is our way of life.
You need and I need to realise we do not need the I but we can make use of it.
Lovely little label 'me' irony in it☺️
When you find yourself you loose yourself🌹
Please come to Canada
It is critical in undestanding Sikhi that you distinguish between Ego and Pride. The later is one of the 5 Thieves the former is the delusional concept of 'Self'
Self does have a purpose, it makes 'us' corporeal but it is just a tool, a cloak we wear, a character the Guru plays. It is not reality but we express reality with it in order to learn, and why do we need to learn ? Because we are the nerve endings of the Guru tasked with experiencing this Illusion it has created and reporting back.
Can you provide any references from guru granth sahib or bhai gurdas ji's vaar where hukam is defined or explained in detail especially the way you are conceptualizing it?

Like the tadpole's tail, the ego will and should shrink away only at the right time. Let the "saatvic" ego remain, like the snake around Lord Siva, then it becomes a 'Bhooshan' - an ornament. The ego remains saatvic (balanced) when the buddhi, the intellect is in command. It's impossible to live without a semblance of the ego - the "i am ness" , the sense of individuality. But as long as this ego is tempered with the true understanding that my true essence is Sat-Chit-Ananda (Absolute Existence-Awareness-Bliss) and I mentally bow down to the spiritual teacher (the Guru) and to Ishvar (the bestower of the fruits of our actions - the karma phala daataa), the ego cannot harm, it'll only be an asset, be an ornament that adorns us.
"The root of all evil is in the soil..." - m. singh
Hi I have a question regarding the three pillars. Do they have a particular order? Is it Naam Jappo, Kirat Karo, Vand Chakko or is the order Kirat Karo, Naam Jappo, Vand Chakko.
I always thought Guru Nanak put hard work and action (Kirat) before reciting Lord's name (Naam Jappo).
Thanks ❤
Hi veerji I hope you are keeping well and safe. Sorry I have very limited knowledge but according to Japji Sahib all actions including pilgrimages, charity and compassion are only worth a iota of worth in the divines court without naam. Every Ang of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is a manual on Naam and Hukam. Once naam starts to reside in your mind virtues such as honesty, compassion will become automatic as this is our true nature. The Gurbani I am taking reference to from Japji Sahib is 'theerath tap daya dat daan jay ko paavei til kaa mann sunnia mannia mann keetha bhao antargath tirath maal bhao'
Sorry for all my mistakes veerji I hope the above helps 🙏
@@sukheshwalia9026 thank you so much❤❤
Haanjee, Banajee, the kirat karo part that is being talked - as one of the three pillars - is being done so loosely. It was meant to be as "Dharam Dee Kirat Karni" and not kirat as working hard. Check it out. Make Sense to you.
WAHE GURU JI DA KHALSA, WAHE GURU JI DI FATEH
just a question sir. Guru Nanak Ji Mahraj talks about going with the Hukam. But didn't this thing was mentioned by Lao Tzu? The philosophy of "Going with the Flow"
Lao Tzu understanding is very clear if anybody read "Tao te ching" its easy to grasp the deep philosophy . But if you want to understand Nanak or Gurbani it's very complicated and every sikh preacher has their own version of sikhism.
That is true. Sikh ideology matches more with thoism than Islam or Hinduism. Truth stays as it is no matter by whom or when it was said.
@@ikohi5517
As a practicing with I don't think Sikh preachers their own version, I think they have their own way of explaining it. But I also agree Lao Tzu sounds very simple to understand.
@@vjagpal waheguru ji
Brotherc Hukam isn’t just going with the flow. Though, going w the flow is a part of it. Hukam is roughly translated as “the will”. But Hukam itself is the ultimate reality. It is the reality which gives birth to all other tralities. Hukam is the foundation of existence itself. When all words fails to describe the beginning-less beginning, it is “the hukam” that becomes the very foundation of that level of understanding. Guru Nanak said, no one can speak about the Hukam but everything is Hukam. We can talk and talk but still won’t be able to decipher what Hukam really is. Hukam is everything & everything is in Hukam. Hukam is this. Hukam is that.
If Religion be called just a way of Life, then the Religion should be considered
a misnomer. All Religions reflect a way of Life. However word Religions/Religion
doesn’t have to be downgraded to JUST A WAY OF LIFE. Pointing specifically to one particular Religion would be either condemning a Religion in particular or
Challenging the Dictionary itself for it

It was and is all the Guru. We all get different lessons in this existence tailored to suite the illusion we call self. And self is not wrong..even self is The Guru. Why..Only the Gurus knows but I think..This is THE Game Of Love. The Guru creates my illusion of self because The Guru has a reason. There are many ways to find the path..mine was just a little more in step with Moon The Loon ( The Who Drummer who left this existence with a bang) Many of you will know this song, I hope so it is Archetypally British Rock. (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?
Well, who are you?

I have question?
If someone comes to me and ask for money and money is spent in leisure activities by that person .then am I fool who give money by saying we are one? I am often fooled by people they ask for money in time of need by saying we are brother and then refuse to return then am I money minded or fool tooo much confusion in relating guru's mat on such situations plz help
There are 2 sides to this. You give the money because we ARE one.
But the other side, the person just might be saying this to you for the money. What I would say is: I work for this money, and you can aswell. This money which you are asking for, you will get it if you work. Maybe even more!
Something similar I’m dealing with. I was always taught by my dad to not trust anyone easily when it comes to finances. But it’s difficult especially when you don’t wanna be selfish. Idk if I’m right or wrong but so far how I deal with it is that if I have the capability to help someone financially who’s in genuine need then I do but if I know I don’t have sufficient funds or that the other person might not be genuine then I take it as hukam too & let that person deal with it through their way! I often ask myself that what did I do to even make this money ? The answer: I had no capacity on my own. This body is a gift which I used to make these resources so if someone needs help I will go for it but yes if someone’s just using you then again we gotta do the right thing of taking a stand. Maybe that’s that person’s hukam to start working hard & be genuine.
@@Kaur_Harvinder ok this seems to be right to much extent thanks brother

The simple answer to your question is commen sense which everyone has and is given by the guru to use it properly
Guru Nanak Dev Je Was A Seeker Not A Religious Man, he said something very fascinating, to the Hindus and the Muslim, before becoming a Hindu or a Muslim be a human first , all doing good or bad our products of the ego , think wisely and the ego will obey the command, Power Of The Mind He Was A Wise Man , you are not the body, you live in a body, your house is where the body dwells,. If you leave your body and someone rang the doorbell, the body that not respond, because there is no one home 😁
Does that mean we can't learn until we are ready

Yes. If you want to learn it, then learn it!

But my question is why God has filled us with ego or all other elements he doesn’t like or likes us to fight with and still resides within us and we reside in one…. Why don’t animals or other creatures have ego, pride, etc. and are still created by almighty and he is within them too… so why humans have complicated brain to find ways to go along hukam/ god’s wish ….
Hell ya we r on profit side thanks to god for giving birth and still its not enough for us we want to experience god again or he wants to be alive from within us …. I am totally confused….
More mystical superfluous talk. Can make anything you want out of the teaching of sikhism. Bend this way and that to fit any shoe you want.
ISLAM - Obey the will of Eternal God
Or not
Hi clueless, sikhism allows any fortunate pre-ordained man on planet Earth to meet know and assimilate with the One Lord Infinite Eternal Creator direct one to one, before their death here in Time. And that divine path in true faith believe love & trust in endurance & perseverance to assimilation is given taught & knowledged by The True Guru (SatGuru).
All your cleverness intellect & thinking cannot comprehend the divine knowledge of the Guru Granth Sahib no matter how many billions give their opinions considerations or claims to you or you take those yourself.
And, sikhism is a "true religion" from page 1-1430. Japji declares it on P7 go find it whosoever needs to, am not a spoon feeder.
Bhai Gurdas, Vaaran, Var 7-5-3:
" Sat Santokh Deya Dharm Arth So Granth Punch Parvana "!
I am brought up in the Sikh religion. But I question how much of it I actually believe. I am taking more of an interest in Christianity as it makes more sense to me.
lol okay ..Sikhism doesn't need you
Don't do politics of Dharama it is not genuine for gentle people.
Guru Nanak wouldn't approve of profiting off of religions
The more I hear about Sikhi, the more I am convinced Sikh philosophy is 100% Vedanta. It's core is jnana-bhakti. The beard, the turban, the kada etc are external symbols that characterised the region - Punjab. Guru Gobind Singhji's Khalsa gave a separate name and form to an existant faith. Later priesthood and murtis were totally stripped away. Sanskrit was replaced by Gurmukhi. Sikhi in it's core is Sanatana Dharma, pure and simple. It's practise is the bhakti way, with vedic-puranic rituals stripped away, with Sanatana murtis and symbols dropped and replaced with other symbols, with worship conducted purely in the form of kirtan.
