    Lotus juice is the main rapper on most of the persona 3 tracks. He's also done tracks for persona 4 and 5 spinoffs. He's written for Persona 5 Royals 'Throw away your mask' which was sung by Lyn. One of my favourite tracks hes ever done was made for the persona 3 films (yes there are films, 4 whole films for this one game) called 'Fate is in our hands'
    He's also done a few tracks for anime like jojo's (Overdrive) and soul eater (Death the kid's theme)

    The main thrust of Persona 3 is quite possibly the most metal premise for a JRPG I've ever come across. The main antagonist isn't a demon seeking to erase existence, or a god trying to take control. Instead, it's a cosmic horror born of the apathy and despair of humanity. It seeks to simply remove suffering, but it does so by removing all motivation to live. With the only way to combat it and stop it from dragging all of humanity into a state of total apathy is to take a specially prepared gun, put it to your head and pull the trigger. Only by staring Death itself in the eye and making it blink do you manifest the ability to take a stand, finding value in life, suffering and all.

    Japanese rap is interesting for a couple of reasons. Culturally, of course, it has developed somewhat separately from American rap, meaning that while it is influenced by some of the same artists, it has gone in a variety of different directions you don't normally see in more conventional American rap.
    This is best represented by the fact that Japanese artists will happily drop English words into their songs, sometimes even rhyming English with Japanese. This makes songs lyrically very interesting, especially when they use words that *wouldn't* rhyme in English but do rhyme due to Japanese transliteration.
    From a metrical perspective, Japanese rap also has a bit more ease, ironically enough, because it's a syllabic rather than phonetic language. The Japanese hirigana and katakana alphabets are each made up of individual syllables, rather than discrete phonetic sounds, and all of them end with "a," "e," "i", "u", "o", or "n" sounds. This makes it somewhat easier to rhyme certain words... At least, compared to the somewhat tortured rhymes you'll sometimes hear in American rap.

    • @BHox01
      @BHox01 Před 2 lety +27

      Not to mention Lotus Juice lived in the US for like a decade when he grew up so his English is pretty damn good too

    • @ebmage8793
      @ebmage8793 Před 2 lety +8

      Something else about the Japanese language is that tense is the same for most verb endings. You can conjugate several sentences with the same ending tense (present, past, future) and they would naturally rhyme.
      for example ...arimasu, ...yomimasu, ...nomimasu all rhyme simply because Im using present tense endings.

    The only other rap songs in video games that Immediately come to my mind are "I'm Back (to Rise)" from Killer Instinct, Ed's theme from SFV, any song associated with knuckles in Sonic Adventures 1 and 2, and (if you wanna listen to more of Lotus Juice's rapping) Mass Destruction from Persona 3.

    Burn my Dread is odd..
    There’s technically 4 versions not including the Dancing game remixes
    These two from the games and the versions from the Persona 3 films
    The first film one is slightly inferior i find but is really heavy, like the build up is amazing, it feels grand.
    And the final battle version from the final film has this goddam sexy piano and futuristic sound and it’s the best version of the song!!! It’s sooooo goood
    Shame the only one if these in Spotify or the original games final battle
    (The regular burn my dread is the short version annoyingly)

    Last Battle is and isn't the song for the final boss.
    The actual fight (which has about 14 total phases, the first 13 kind of being like a series of warm-up rounds) plays a different song: The Battle for Everyone's Souls
    Last Battle happens in the fight after, playing out more like a cutscene, although you are still technically in a fight.
    There's also a future arrange of Last Battle that gives it even more of an emotional edge to it.

  • @TheRockMouse
    @TheRockMouse Před 2 lety +2

    'Do For Love' is a song that I think fits a combination of the two songs you mentioned. (Granted, different song.) It's not from persona, but Shoji Meguro DID compose it!

    Recomendations for persona music:
    Whims of fate - Persona 5
    The fog (Konishi remix) - Persona 4 Dancing
    Burn My Dread (Last Battle MOVIE VERSION) - Persona 3 Movie (I know you already did the other version, but I think this remix is way more interesting)

    Burn My Dread is not only fantastic for all the reasons you and others in the comments have said, but it also sets up the main leitmotif throughout Persona 3. The leitmotif is derived from Burn My Dread's verses and is featured throughout the game. One of the songs it features most prominently in is "When the Moon Reaches for the Stars" another track starring Yumi. It even follows through into the various spin offs featuring Persona 3, like Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight's intro song "Our Moment". It's really fun finding the leitmotif throughout both the game's OST and the Persona series overall!

    Burn My Dread (Last Battle) plays right after the boss where Battle for Everyone's Souls plays, right as you stare at the big bad by yourself and you literally just have to press one button to end it all. It is such a fucking great moment.
    You really should do Persona 3's regular battle theme next, it's called Mass Destruction.

    Maybe I'm alone with that but while I like "Burn my Dread" as Persona 3's opening theme, I think "P3 FES" from the expanded version aka Persona 3 FES is superior and it's a crime that it's only 1 1/2 minutes long.

    It's not exactly a remix, but probably my favorite case in persona where elements of a track are reincorporated into another would probably be Joy and Memories of You from Persona 3. You can hear a lot of similarities between the two, but they create two totally different feelings, and the way it's done ties in really well with the story too. It's a pretty rare thing in the series though unfortunately. The only other time I can remember off the top of my head is in Persona 4 with Corner of Memories and Never More, though that's a lot less subtle.

    Speaking of Persona Music, I'd like to recommend "Maya's Theme" from Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. (Both to you at some point, or people here that might not have heard it)
    Either:
    Persona 2 EP (Special Soundtrack) - Maya's Theme Atsushi Kitajoh Rearrange Ver
    Or alternatively the version that plays in P3 as a bonus 'hidden' track.
    Two very, very different versions of the same theme.

    ... And I'm reminded of that I should actually play Persona 4 on PC. ... Still wishing Persona 3 would come to PC as I really do want to play this game. Also this game is by far more disturbing than other Persona games mainly because of two things: the heavy things it tackles like depression, and how you summon your persona. In Persona 4, it's cards, that you break. In Persona 5, it's masks that you rip from your face. In Persona 3... it's a gun, that you aim at your head and fire. When I actually listened to the intro of Persona 4 the first time, I became curious and actually listened to this next and boy did I love it. Still do.
