Ok so where to begin, let me just say u just got me as a new subscriber love the quality of your content! Next I've been collecting sports cards the last 3 months or so (besides when I was growing up) but I wanna branch out to pokemon maybe even MTG or even Dragon ball Z, anyways my question to u is what would be the best box of pokemon cards to buy? Like do the come in hobby boxes like sports cards? Wanna spend around 3 maybe 400 any help would be greatly appreciated ty. Keep up the gd work
That’s awesome to hear! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the videos, and I hope you found them helpful! I’ve collected other trading cards as well, but as you can probably tell Pokemon cards are by far my personal favourite, so I’m glad I’m able to help other people with the hobby too!
In terms of what you should collect, that’s a tough question, and in a lot of cases comes down to personal preference, and what cards you like. But to narrow it down, are you looking to collect vintage, or modern cards? I can also help you out with vintage, but I’m much more of an expert on modern, and based on your comment, I think you’re leaning towards modern as well (They’re cheaper, and far more easily accessible).
If you have absolutely no experience with Pokemon cards, and know absolutely nothing about them, I would recommend looking up a list of the recent sets, and subsequently taking a look at their specific cards lists. See if anything catches your eye-if there are any cards that you really seem to like-and mark down any sets that interest you. Then, take a deeper look at these sets, watching CZcams unboxing, etc, and if it seems like a good set, then go for it!
If you don’t feel like doing all that work though, there is a much easier option lol, and I can just recommend a few of the best recent sets. The 25th anniversary “Celebrations” set is awesome, and one I would highly recommend to a beginner. Very high pull rates, so you have a high chance at getting some hits, and the set includes a lot of cool reprints from the past. I would also recommend the Evolving skies set, it has some really nice Eevee cards, as well as Chilling Reign, and perhaps shining fates. These are all sets that are very recent, and that you should still be able to find in store. I would NOT recommend the latest set-Fusion Strike-as the pull rates are apparently abysmal, and the card selection is pretty meh.
Also, if you can wait a bit 2022 seems like it will be a VERY good year for Pokemon. The new “Brilliant Star” set is coming out very soon, and will introduce some new card types, as well as what looks to be a very nice selection of cards. So I would keep my eye on that one!
To answer your last question, you can but Pokemon cards in boxes, or in individual booster packs! It’s up to you, which you want to go for. The boxes come with a lot of really nice bonus goodies, and while the single packs do now, for some reason I seem to pull better cards from them. If you’re looking for a specific box right now, I would recommend looking at “Elite Trainer Boxes”. They come with sleeves, and a bunch of helpful additions for a new collector. Like I said before, I like the “Celebrations” set, so a Celebrations “Elite Trainer Box” would be a good choice!

Wow I really learned a lot from this video. I had no idea that there were SO many factors to keeping your cards as clean as possible. If I ever find a rare Pokémon card I will definitely remember this video.

Hmm the rarest card I have, that’s a tough one! Well, in terms of rarity, probably that holo Dragonite (4/62) that I have from the 1999 fossil set (though it’s in really bad condition as you can see from this video lol). And modern cards, I’m not sure! I have a bunch of gold cards, and they’re all really cool! My favourite would probably be my Primal Groudon EX (97/98)!

@@Witkomon wow that's sick. I have a card from 1999 and it's a trainer card. I don't remember what it's called tho. It's also not that rare. At most they only go for 3 bucks.

Amazing video, thanks for referring to here. I now know more about it than before, very precise and to the point information. Sill my question remains, I only started collecting/ opening Pokémon card packs but I only have access to the 2022 edition packs. My question is, is it still worth it to open new edition cards? I can't seem to find websites that only show price for let's say the 2022 edition cards. Everyone is talking about edition 1 or something along those lines (old editions). Appreciate your work but if you could please respond and guide me. Thanks

So, I’m not sure what websites you’re looking at, but first edition cards are in a completely different ball park. First edition cards were only made in the 90s, when wizards of the coast was still making Pokémon cards. As you know from the video, the first edition stamp simply signifies that it was part of the first print run.
First edition cards are vintage, and so they are not really at all comparable to modern Pokémon cards. They’re I’m a separate category, different group of collectors. You can collect vintage cards if you would like, though they are expensive, and obviously are not being made anymore.
As I said, first editions were only made in the 90s, and so there aren’t any modern first editions. “Edition” is not used to refer to cards anymore either. They’re simply Pokémon cards, perhaps from sword and shield or sun and moon, and you can perhaps get more specific with the exact expansion. For example, sword and shield evolving skies is a great set, with lots of great cards. Modern cards can definitely be valuable, and there are some expensive cards. Evolving skies has some cards that are close to $1000 even. If you skip to the end of this video, or my Rare and Expensive video, I go into detail on how to price cards. I typically use eBay or TCGplayer.

Does that Chikorita have a fake 1st edition stamp? I saw another video that showed 1st edition cards with fake stamps, where the corner of the art does not line up with the center of the stamp. It should line up with the center of the T, right?

One of my cards are valuable and old but in good condition, But one of the borders is 3 milimetres thicker than the other can i still send it to a grader?
It depends. If you think it’ll hit an 8 or more, it could be worth it. In terms of birders, PSA tends to allow 60/40. If you just want it for your personal collection, go for it, but if you’re looking to make money, I wouldn’t send anything in that I’m not sure would hit a high grade (as, with grading costs, you’ll lose money)

I have a Pokémon Advanced Combusken 8/18 embossed evolution Stage 2 card. It isn't cut like a regular 4 corner card from Topps circa 2000-2003(around the time I started collecting). I'd forgotten about it until I went thru an old binder. I can't find anything and I mean anything on it! No ebay or tcg...Google.. nothing! Can you help me figure out $$$ or at least point me in the right direction?
Honestly, I know nothing about Topps cards. My best advice would be to go to eBay, but it seems that you already did that. Your card does seem to be very valuable though, so if it's a miscut, that could be something indeed!

Yes! It's expensive, and based entirely on luck, but I personally think it's really fun! Opening packs are a blast, and when you do actually pull something it's especially exhilarating!
My favorite card is my Primal Groudon EX 97/98. It was my first card when I got back into collecting during the XY era, and I based some of my first videos with :)

Bold HP numbers? What do you mean? Different generations of cards use different fonts, styles, etc, but I don’t think it really has anything to do with grade, just age.

Where do you normally sell your Pokémon cards??
Well, I don’t personally normally sell mine haha. I’m a bit of a collector, I couldn’t bear to part with my cards!
But, if you want to sell yours you have many options. You can use something like Facebook marketplace or Kijiji, to sell your cards in-person. This is perhaps the easiest way, though you might not get the best price. The BEST option, I would say is eBay. It’s the biggest market for Pokémon cards, and you can get the best price there. eBay does take a cut, however, and you would have to be comfortable with shipping for that.

Hey! I replied to your other comment, but I'll reply here as well! That's an alt art card from the Fusion Strike set! Alternate art cards are a type of secret rare, so that's an incredibly rare card! You really did get super lucky, even I haven't been able to pull one yet! For this card, you're looking at around $100-$150 dollars, ungraded!
They printing up 9 billion pokemon cards a year now to keep up with demand. Which means, those cards most likely not gonna be worth investing compared to before.

I have lots of rare card but they are to old
Being old doesn’t make them any less rare, in fact old cards are actually a lot more rare then modern cards! They have not been printed for a long time, so a limited number exist in the wild, especially those that are in good condition.
In the ‘Condition Grades’ you showed a Clobbopus card and said “if you want to have double protection on a valuable card or a card you really want”is the card rare is it a card for demonstration?
